    BCBS federal

I have BC/BS Federal and I have all the comorbidities. My BMI is 39. I was told that BC/BS would cover the RNY but not the sleeve. I have no pre dieting to do to qualify.
  2. I had the lap band removed 5 months ago and it left me with a protruding large upper belly. My surgeon said that he moved some scar tissue out of the way as to not interfere when he do RNY on me. I really look 8 mos pregnant. I was having second thoughts about the second surgery, but now I can't wait. Hopefully he will remove all of the scar tissue. Good Luck with your tummy, I'm sure that it will go down in time. I think that not totally removing all of the scar tissue would mean that I will definitely come back for part two

    My success so far.

Hey Auri, Nice to hear from you. you sound very positive and that's a good thing. I'm still waiting around and will see my surgeon in two weeks. Hopefully I will start the pre-op diet. You can really see a difference and I know that you will get to goal before you know it.
  4. Now that's support for you. He IS a sweet hubby. That's the type of support that I would love to have. I really would like more positive support from my family, it would make my decision so much easier. I know that my hubby will be there waiting on me hand and foot once I have the surgery, but right now, he's not very encouraging. He's a string bean and just can't understand that I can't just push back from the table. I need help to get healthy.
  5. Thanks jacileggs, This is very encouraging. It's nice to know that I have others near my weight and having/had RNY.
  6. congrats on your hard work

    I am 60

Today is my Birthday and I am 61 years old. I'm a lightweight for RNY but my Dr. feels I need it due to health issues including diabetes. It's nice to know that I'm not alone on this journey. I had the band for 5 years and had it removed 5 months ago. I feel a lot of nervousness and anxiety towards RNY. Therefore, I also need to hear such positive posts.
  8. Worried about: having the surgery and going under the surgery not helping with my diabetes and the pain in my knees, ankles, and feet my husband and family saying "I told you not to do it but you didn't listen" worrying about losing too much b/c I've heard "You don't weigh enough" Excited about The idea of getting rid of diabetes looking good in jeans, belts, and other clothes crossing my legs exercising, traveling, and just being able to play my favorite sport better
  9. Hello everyone, I have been around a long time pondering on this forum as well as the lap band forum. I had the band removed finally and even before then my Dr. had been telling me that RNY would be my better choice. And now, I still have worsening diabetes, high B/P, cholesterol issues and taking meds for them all. I now weigh 215 and I'm 5' 2" tall. My PCP wrote me a prescription for diet pills since I still need to lose for health reasons. SHOULD I OR NOT START TAKING THE PILLS? I no longer have the band that wasn't helping anyway. Please give me your feedback (good/ or bad) My body weight isn't evenly distributed, b/c I'm much heavier from waist up and and thin legs and wrists. At this point, I really need to do this for health reasons and not looks. The pills carry a lot of side effects and slow weight loss.

    Should I or Not?

Thanks guys, I keep forgetting about the way they made me feel b/c I still need to lose 65 lbs. Thanks for reminding me about something that I swore never to do again. @bellabloom~ Xenical was the drug that made me swear never again. I was sick and had a nerve problem for weeks. I'm afraid that this pill may too. My electrolytes were thrown off and I couldn't lay down to sleep at night. I think I'll just go ahead and call my surgeon.

    Considering removal need advice/help!

Hi, I had my band removed July 8th. I knew it had to come out and like most ppl here, I was afraid of the removal b/c I used a different Dr. to remove it. My surgeon moved hundreds of miles away. I had all of the lap band woes as everyone else did. I had left side pain that lasted sometimes for 3 weeks and then gradually went away only to return and start over again about 6 weeks later. I lost 45 lbs in the first 5 weeks but I had the band for 5 years. Luckily I haven't gained any weight, as a matter of fact, I lost 3 lbs w/o trying. You will be fine and feel a lot better once it's removed. take care

    Should I or Not?

Thanks Brandyjune. I'm thinking right now, that the side effects I had long ago were not pretty. I want to forget that experience and try again sometimes. but when I remember what I went through and how I felt, I vowed NOT ever again. So even though my PCP wants me to try them, I just don't think that I can. Besides, my WL surgeon is waiting to hear back from me. I've been approved and he's waiting on me to say the word. He removed my band 4 mos. ago. We feel that I"m healed from that. I used to worry about image and losing too much. but now it's about health.

    Should I or Not?

I've received a packet in the mail today from the diet pill manufacturer along with a daily food journal. but listening to these responses, there seem to be more side effects from taking the pill than it is with just actually having the surgery. I'm also thinking that taking the pills may be such a short term thing that they may not help with my type 2 diabetes.

    Should I or Not?

I sometimes wonder if these doctors are promoting these experimental drugs for a fee. I think diet pills carry more side effects than having RNY. At least from what I"ve read. I'm beginning to weigh out the options on the side effects between both. I know RNY would help with my medical issues, and I feel stupid to still be pondering over this.

    Should I or Not?

The bad reaction that I had came from xenical that was prescribed by my Dr. one week later I had to go to the ER and was put on a heart monitor. I'm just afraid of them.

    Should I or Not?

Thanks James, I sworn to my self that I would never take another diet pill. This particular Dr. seems to be shying away from RNY. He was pleased that I had the band removed
  17. Thanks swimbikerun! After reading all of these posts, I never knew that so many others were in my boat. I'm glad this this thread was started. Thanks guys

    Emotional Mess

Sandy S. I'm also glad you posted this concern. I've had my band removed 8 weeks ago and will soon start the pre-op diet. No surgery date set yet but I am already a nervous wreck. Before banding, I changed my mind at least 5 times and they were tired of me I know. Now I'm ready for my revision surgery. So I can only imagine how I"ll feel once I get a surgery date. I'm afraid of what others will say and act towards me being thin. We can all relate, and once I get my surgery date, I know that I will be coming back here reading these posts for support as well. Remember, we are in this together and I know that you'll be giving support to me and many others. Thanks!
  19. I attended a WL group meeting and as I walked into the room, a teen aged girl was there waiting with her mother. I heard her say OMG! and then laughter. I believed (but can't swear) that it was stated towards me. I am 5' 2" tall and weigh 215. All of the others before me were really huge ppl. I have type2, HBP, High chol, and arthritic pain in my knees. The nurse that took my weight and vitals said " I know you're having your band removed, but why are you having RNY?. You're not that big. Why don't you just get the sleeve". Well, for number one, my Dr. feels that I would have the same symptoms/ results as with the band. And number two, My insurance won't pay for it. I know the health problems I have, but ppl make me feel as though I'm crazy for thinking RNY.
  20. I once mentioned RNY at work. I am 5' 2" and weighed 247 at the time. My boss said "You're not big enough for that and they will never do it on you. I listened to everyone saying that and was afraid of RNY really, So I chose the band. I lost 45 lbs in 5 years before removing it due to complications. I should have stuck with my first thought of RNY b/c I now at 220 lbs, I still have the same medical problems and according to my Dr., I still need to have the surgery to combat HBP and diabetes.

    Frustrated and discouraged

If I wait more than another two months, I will have to do all the classes over again too. I had my band removed 2 months ago and would like to have RNY within the next 5-6 weeks

    Post op w/ band removal?

I went back to work in 2 weeks after band placement. I had discomfort and some pain the first couple of days and after band removal I was sore the first couple of days and went back to work in one week. I also was doing desk work. It wasn't as bad as having the band placed on. I'm waiting to have RNY too but no known date yet. It's been 7 weeks now and I'm hoping to have surgery in the next 6 weeks

    I had a nightmare!

Hi, I no longer have the lap band but I still have the comorbid conditions I had before. Dr. is saying I need RNY and have found no reason why I can't go through with it in the next three months. I'm so afraid but I know that I need to do this for health reasons. Last night I dreamt that I was at a weight loss class and the Dr. came up to me and said "OK, I'll see you in surgery in 2 weeks". I had prayed earlier to make the right decision during this process, and I feel that it came to me in that dream. I will be calling my Dr.'s office to find out about scheduling very soon.
  24. I had the band removed 7 weeks ago after 5 years. lost 45lbs in the first 5 months and nothing but problems afterwards. I am 5"2 and weigh 217 lbs. My Dr. says RNY would be the best, so I'm waiting another month before starting the pre-diet. good Luck to ya!
  25. keep up the good work Allielee. I'm happy that you sound so happy and I know you are. I hope to join you in a couple of months
