Any air traffic controllers here? I'm wondering what, if any restrictions, the flight surgeons puts on you if you decide to get a lapband.
Thanks

Thanks for the info Jachut.

If you notice what "normal" people eat, most do not eat more than a cup of food.Down here in Texas they do!! HAHAHA!
Thanks for the comment Doddie. Reading this forum over the last few days has given me a better understanding of what to expect. Im thinking that lapband may infact be good for me.
Thanks again.

Thanks for the comments.
Whats the long term outlook for the band itself? Does it have a life expectancy? Its not going to start breaking down years down the road is it? Is there any info on that kinda thing out tthere? I know lapband hasnt been around that long, but Im sure the question has been asked.

Anyone else have any input?
How are things once you reach your goal weight? Do you "ease" up on things? Whether it be what you eat or whatever...and still maintain your goal weight?
Thanks.

TQUAD & lellow,
Thanks. Thats the kind of promising information I need to hear.

Thanks Jachut. You get full when you eat, but what do you do about the appetite? How do you fight it?
-
Oh ok, thanks. Well that doesnt sound like a bad thing.

Dr. Babineau did my lapband surgery in Feb 2007. The only time you actually see him is at 1st meeting and the day of surgery. After that, you will see his P.A. Cathy. I havent been pleased, I have a 4 cc band and on my 1st fill I was given 1 cc (6 weeks after surgery) then I went back 1 month later and got another 1 cc fill. I call doctors office and and told them I thought it was too tight, was told that it sounded like it was just right I was couldnt eat hardly anything. I was getting choked on most everything I put in my mouth. I finally went back after about 3 weeks and I told them I thought that I needed about 1/2 cc taken out. I think all was taken out, because now I can eat anything. I called back to get an appt to get some more put back in and I have been waiting for 2 months to see them, because they were too booked up.Not sure if anyone else has had this problem, maybe it is just me.

Wow, thanks for the review. I will have to keep this in mind.

Considering getting lapband and doing a little research.
Question: What happens with the band once you reach your goal weight? Does it come out? Does it get deflated all the way? Or just a little loose?
Thanks.

Over eating in reaction to stress is what many of us Morbidly Obese have done much of our lives. This is opportunity to observe and make final choices regarding whether to place our brain in control or let our stomach continue ruling our lives.
Personally I had a wonderful pre-op diet that was entirely satisfying and got all my own 'last supper' binges over & done with months before surgery.
We must begin somewhere along the path to impose our own discipline regarding habitual over eating. Today is a good day to do such.
Hey y'all,
Im looking into possibly getting lapband. But I have some questions. This post Im quoting is an example of many similar posts I have read on these forums. Basically the posts Im talking about say that you will need to use your WILL power to lose weight and eat right with lapband. I think its safe to say, atleast for me anyways, that will power is what prevented us from sticking to the diets (for the long haul). Or what prevented us from gaining all the weight back after a "good" stretch of barely being able to hold onto the little will power we had.
With all these eating restrictions and hoops to jump through with lapband, why would I think that getting lapband would be any different than just a conventional diet and exercize plan? That is if WILL POWER is the key to success.
I read about people "eating through" the band...not really sure what that means! I would imagine it means basically ignoring the restrictive effects of the band and continue to eat because your craving food.
With that said...What is the real "edge" you get from the Lapband???

I just started researching Lapband, but I gotta say, reading these posts have not been encouraging!
When you guys say you cant eat or cant handle something, do you mean if you try to eat it you end up throwing it up?
-
Well this doesnt sound good. I have federal bcbs standard and Im just now in the "research" phase. Whats wrong with precertification? Is it a big deal?
-
Old post, I know. But Longview, TX here. Still in the "research" phase.
-
Thanks for all the comments guys/gals. I really appreciate it. I am very analytical so I will keep doing more research.
-
Sorry to butt in on the conversation. I have federal bcbc standard. I read in this thread that precertification will be required starting in 2009. My wife handles the insurance stuff when needed so Im not too familiar with it all. What exactly does that mean? Is precertification a big deal? I thought you had to get precertified even before the new '09 policy goes into effect.
Thanks,

I've been doing a little research into Lapband surgery for the last couple days. Correct me if Im wrong...
What I've learned is that for Lapband to be successful you must use your own will power and restraint, when it comes to eating. And you should excersize.
Isnt that what Lapband is suppose to do? Eliminate the "will power" factor, the one thing that has prevented a good number of us from losing AND keeping weight off in the first place??
Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but if I cant lose weight by diet and excersize, why should I expect to lose weight with the lapband if Im expected to follow a strict diet and excersize?
I appreciate any input.
Thanks.
Nick

Wow!! Reading these posts is very discouraging. What is the Lapband suppose to do for you again?
