  1. I've been doing a little research into Lapband surgery for the last couple days. Correct me if Im wrong... What I've learned is that for Lapband to be successful you must use your own will power and restraint, when it comes to eating. And you should excersize. Isnt that what Lapband is suppose to do? Eliminate the "will power" factor, the one thing that has prevented a good number of us from losing AND keeping weight off in the first place?? Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but if I cant lose weight by diet and excersize, why should I expect to lose weight with the lapband if Im expected to follow a strict diet and excersize? I appreciate any input. Thanks. Nick

  9. Considering getting lapband and doing a little research. Question: What happens with the band once you reach your goal weight? Does it come out? Does it get deflated all the way? Or just a little loose? Thanks.

What happens when you reach your goal weight?

Thanks for the comments. Whats the long term outlook for the band itself? Does it have a life expectancy? Its not going to start breaking down years down the road is it? Is there any info on that kinda thing out tthere? I know lapband hasnt been around that long, but Im sure the question has been asked.

What happens when you reach your goal weight?

Anyone else have any input? How are things once you reach your goal weight? Do you "ease" up on things? Whether it be what you eat or whatever...and still maintain your goal weight? Thanks.
  15. TQUAD & lellow, Thanks. Thats the kind of promising information I need to hear.

    Last supper syndrome

Hey y'all, Im looking into possibly getting lapband. But I have some questions. This post Im quoting is an example of many similar posts I have read on these forums. Basically the posts Im talking about say that you will need to use your WILL power to lose weight and eat right with lapband. I think its safe to say, atleast for me anyways, that will power is what prevented us from sticking to the diets (for the long haul). Or what prevented us from gaining all the weight back after a "good" stretch of barely being able to hold onto the little will power we had. With all these eating restrictions and hoops to jump through with lapband, why would I think that getting lapband would be any different than just a conventional diet and exercize plan? That is if WILL POWER is the key to success. I read about people "eating through" the band...not really sure what that means! I would imagine it means basically ignoring the restrictive effects of the band and continue to eat because your craving food. With that said...What is the real "edge" you get from the Lapband???

Foods I can no longer enjoy..

I just started researching Lapband, but I gotta say, reading these posts have not been encouraging! When you guys say you cant eat or cant handle something, do you mean if you try to eat it you end up throwing it up?

    Federal BCBS Standard KY

Well this doesnt sound good. I have federal bcbs standard and Im just now in the "research" phase. Whats wrong with precertification? Is it a big deal?

  23. Thanks for all the comments guys/gals. I really appreciate it. I am very analytical so I will keep doing more research.

Blue cross blue shield federal basic (live in tx)

Sorry to butt in on the conversation. I have federal bcbc standard. I read in this thread that precertification will be required starting in 2009. My wife handles the insurance stuff when needed so Im not too familiar with it all. What exactly does that mean? Is precertification a big deal? I thought you had to get precertified even before the new '09 policy goes into effect. Thanks,
