  1. I was banded on 12/09/08. Noticed a patch of what look like welps on my side that was itchy, burning. Last night noticed another small group on my stomach. Doctor diagnosed me with shingles. Was told it can be brought on by stress and that my weight loss may have brought it on since I am not under any other stress. My body is reacting to my weight loss (34 lbs). Anybody else been thru this or heard of this? Thanks
  2. I am 7 months post-op and during this last 2 weeks I have increased my time and intensity at the gym. I started a protein shake (Lean Dessert-Chocolate fudge pudding) and it is really good because I know I was not getting enough protein. My problems is over the last 2 weeks I have GAINED 4 lbs:cursing:. Could this be from the shake? or too much exercising? I only walk 2 miles on the treadmill and sometime 5 minutes on the eliptical. No weights. My restriction is good and I am not eating more than I should. Anyone else seen this happen? I have another appointment in 2 weeks with my doctor. Any suggestions? Thanks
  3. I was not a milk drinker before, like you ice cream, milkshakes or chocolate milk. I don't remember what the original question or comment was, but I now drink carnation instant breakfast every morning for the protein because I don't eat eggs (yuck) I just taste like chocolate milk.

  4. Hello Tay, Welcome to the world of change! I have been banded for 5 months and this was the best decision I have every made. Was suffering from leg, knee and back pain and only wanted to go to work and then come straight home. My weight was keeping me from going and doing just normal everyday things. Well, I am down 42 lbs., Knee and back pain is minimal and feel better all around:+} Hang in there and think all things over before you make your decision. Later!!

  5. Hi, I had LB Dec. 09 and have no regrets. Like you, had high BP, cholesterol, diabetic, back and knee pain and everything in between. I have lost 42 lbs so far. I feel sooo much better over all. The most benefit is no knees no longer hurt when waking r walking. My dr. told me every lb. lost is 4 lbs less on the knees. It feels good to be able to wear clothes that are not tight and be able to go buy small sizes. I still have a long way to go, but, no regrets. The best thing i have done for ME! Those first 6 weeks are rough and you will say why? But look at the long run and you will understand why you made this decision to have the surgery.
  6. Hi Denise, Yes I am doing good. Still having some pain in my leg, especially in the late afternoon, but better. Just had my third fill and now definantly feeling some restriction. How's things going for you?

  7. Welcome to lapband talk! Good luck and congrats on your new journey!

    Shingles

Jaffa Steve, if you don't give a damn then don't reply! I'm just asked a question!

    Shingles

Jachut, you don't catch the virus like yo do the chicken pox. The chicken pox virus lies dormant in your body since having the chicken pox as a child. I was 7 yrs. old when I had them. The virus may never become active or it will be brought on by stress. Thanks!

    Shingles

Once again, you cannot "catch" shingles by being around someone who has them! Maybe you need to google and read more about it!
  11. Hi denise25, My leg pain (sciatica) first started in 2005 when diagnosed with a herniated disk. Had minor surgery and no problems until last month, but this is affecting the opposite leg. Feeling better, but some days are worse than others. Hope you are doing ok.

    Shingles

I did have chicken pox as a child, but you can NOT catch shingles from someone else. The virus lies dormant in your body and may not every become active again or it can. You can catch it if your immune system is weaken by a disease such as cancer or in newborns, and you come in contact with the secetions. Stress does bring it on and in my case that is what the doctor said, the shock to my body by the weight loss. Thanks for your imput.
  13. Thanks for that infomative post. I have had 2 fills so far and like you have no restriction and can eat anything. I will be going for my 3rd fill on the 16th of this month, and I hope this one finally gives me some restriction.
  14. I was banded 12/09/09. I have had 2 fills and still have not much restriction. I can tell when I am full and know when to stop eating, but can still eat just about anything. I have lost 35 lbs, but nothing in the last 3 weeks. I have sciatica and there is no way I can go to the gym. I have a balance ball and exxercises the physical therapist gave me which have helped with my pain the last week and a half. Hopefully I can gradually get back to the gym next week, but scared that I may trigger the sciatica again. Due for another fill in a couple weeks so hopefully I can get more restriction and eat less and get back in the swing of things and on the road to more weight loss.

    considering lap band and scared

I was banded 12/09/09 and have had no problems. Yeah, you may be uncomfortable a few days, but anesthesia is nothing. I had a sore throat for a few days and some shoulder pain, but no regrets. I have lost 34 lbs to date and I am loving it. Just think about your health in the long run.

    new to lapband

Mine lasted about 3 days, but always eased up when I used a heating pad. Hang in there, it will get better.
  17. I chose to tell my close friends at work and have nothing by support from them. I think if I had kept the surgery yo myself I wold have lost my mind. They encourgage me, we walk at lunch and some of us go to the gym together. Most of my friends are much smaller than me, and they have been a big part of my success. I am almost 3 months post-op and we go out to eat once a month and they are amazed at what I eat and how little and have nothing but encouraging words for me.

    Pain??

Congrats and good luck on your surgery. My pain was when I was getting up out of bed or a chair. Be sure to get a small pillow and hold against your stomach when getting up or out of bed for a few days. I went back to work on day 10, glad I took the extra 3 days. that is about the only pain I have had. Don't worry too much about it.

2nd Fill and food getting stuck

I got my first fill last Thursday and I can't tell if I have restriction, but I am not hungry and have to make myself eat something. My doctor says he dosen't like to let pts. know amount of fills because everybody is different and it takes different amounts to get to restriction. My next fill is 6 weeks later than the first. I like it this way becuase I definatly don't want the stuck episodes, vomiting, sliming that comes with being to filled. Asl ong as I can control my eating, I will continue getting the small fills until I get to my "sweet spot.
  20. My doctor did not have his patients do a pre-op diet:lol: Only nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before surgery. Just call the office and ask, so you can go ahead and get your date.

    Back to Work

I had my surgery on 12/09/08 and was out of work for 9 days. My surgeon recommended at least 1 week, glad I took a few more days because I do alot of sitting and standing n my job. Had to stay overnight in the hospital and had no problems when I went home except finding the easiest way to get out of bed cause if you just jump up and not hold your abdoment, it hurts like he!!.:tongue2:
  22. I am exactly 4 weeks post op and for the last 3 days have been constipated:eek: Late last night I got up, put on clothes, and went and got me a laxative. I have read that alot of people use benefiber, so I got some but unsure if I need to take it everyday or just when I feel like I can't go by myself. Can someone help me out with a litle more info. I will start soft foods tomorrow, so I will be getting some veggies and fruit in my system, so it may get better. I hope so! Any info will be appreciated. Thanks:smile2:
  23. I showered the next morning while I was still at the hospital and no problems. Was told not to take a bath for a few weeks. I haven't really noticed hair loss, I was banded on 12/09/08. I am doing great and getting ready to go back to work tomorrow. Weight loss so far-15 lbs. Think this is the best decision I could have made.
  24. I was banded 5 days ago in SC. Been a little sore around the port area, but it seems to get better each day. Lost 8 lbs. so far. I found this site before surgery and it was very helpful with my worries about the surgery. So much useful information. Hope to make some friends here:smile2:
