  1. Thank you, very pleased indeed :D I am just feeling slightly scared now about having to get a complete defill incase I go back to my old ways. Theres so many different opinions on this board I just dont know what to do, im assuming every surgeons advice will be different but if he says its for the best then what will be will be. Might enjoy some sandwiches for 8 months hehe :) Thanks for your help ladies x

Congrats on your fab news, both my daughter and freckles daughter have had band babies. In my daughters case she had a partial defill she kept 3ml in for the first 5 months then topped up again to 4.5 for the next 3 half months, then went back to 3ml for the last few weeks and whilst she was breast feeding, she was advised to reduce the fill incase of an emergency c section, or any other complications.

After 6 months breast feeding she was back to her pre pregnancy weight, and then had a restrictive band fill to shift a bit more. Mother and baby did brill, however I did pay for her to have an extra scan in the early weeks just to be certain the baby was growing at the correct rate, all was normal. Hope this helps (PS my daughter had her band with BUPA and they monitered her monthly free of charge).

  2. Well i went for my appt with chris , the other chiris this time !!, he added 1.5ml and jesus its tights , could only manage 3 spoons of yougurt since thurs, now worried its too tight , tried weetabix this morning and got 2 spoons down , bit of a change from the usual 3 weetabix, any one out there had to have a defill ???? can you let me know how you felt ...........

Im hoping i dont need one ( cos of cost ) but havnt felt like this before , pain in chest , even after couple mouth fulls of tea ,

My own fault though , chris wanted to put 1ml in , but smart arse here thought go on add a bit more ( what a muppett i am ) would hat to have to pay 100 to get 0.5ml , what a nitemare !!!!!!!!!!!!

PS hope you are all well and the scale dial keeps going down

Hi Pearce, yep it sounds like an overfill, if your still having problems you have a few options:

Get some omeprazole from chemist no prescription needed, take max dose for a few days, to reduce acid and slime.

drink cold drinks or sip ice lollies,

If you cant swollow saliver contact fred or chris, and arrange emergency unfill. Clinic in London every Sat.

Hope this info is not required and all has settled down.

  3. Thanks slinky!

I have another question :D hopefully someone can help me

Is there a supermarket or shop near the hotel because im sure hubbys not going to want to go out for dinner on his own, so i thought maybe there might be some where we could by a few bits so he could have something in the room, bread or pies, i dunno.

Also what are the prices like in the resturant, just incase he does want to ventre out. Just wondering so i can plan how many euro to change up, dont want to run out of money  Are there any other resturants or cafes near by?

    Thanks

    Jo x

Hi JoJo, Dont forget to take mugs with you the cups in the room are useless, there is a small town within easy walking distance (with your back to the hotel look left and you will see an arched railway bridge go under that into town) there is kebab shop and cafes. But you can join him in the hotel restaurant and just dont order for youself. Or there is quite a good restaurant within the clinic/hospital which he can use.

Prices are a bit more than uk but not really silly, also you can stock up on yogs, Water and things for yourself from the hosp resaurant before you leave . Take teabags, slimasoup, and mugs also powder sachet of drinking choc, and nurofen melts (sucking pain relief. Also if you find the pain killers that are given to you too fizzy put them in warm Water and they soon go clear

It will feel like youve been kicked around the room the first 2 days but each day there is an improvement, and very soon you'll be ok, take care, good luck love mmmxxx

  4. Hello All

So I went and had my 2.5ml defill on Thursday, to take me back down to just 5mls ready for hols and to get some nutrients and Vitamins back in ready to start Fertility treatment hopefully.

Chris Deprez was delighted with my loss to that point but said I should not have left it that long of being able to hardly eat and being so sick and sliming all the time.

However, I now have absolutely no restriction at all, and whilst I haven't gone mad on the food front, just being able to actually eat and drink and keep it down, I have been feeling rotten since Thursday with huge bloated gurgling gas filled tummy, have been going to toilet 3 or 4 times a day, which is a shock in itself after only going once every week and a half to fortnightly for the last 6 months. (Sorry TMI)

Thursday night I couldn't sleep as was doubled over with trapped wind that Rennies, windeez and motilium would'nt shift, and I am burping for England just like the early days, but more guttingly the scales have gone up 6lbs!!!

I have lost my comfort blanket of the band, and having the sickness which I know sounds wrong but it does keep in you check, and I think I have made a mistake having the defill.

Hoping that some of you that have had defills for holidays may be able to reassure me that this is just my body adjusting to food again and will settle, as I am so uncomfortable and I defo can't afford to start piling on the lbs especially with the Fertility appointment coming up which we had only just got after finally shifting the weight.

I know I need to try very hard on my own and make the right food choices but as we know I couldnt do this on my own before which is why I had the band! feeling a bit glum and teary this morning (I'm hormonal as well which doesnt help) but I'd got used to waking up in the morning and feeling sticky out ribs and hip bones and completely dipped in belly before leaping delightedly on the scales but this morning I feel like a little rounded barrell and want to smash the scales.

    Sorry for rant

    C x

I know exactelly how your feeling but dont beat yourself up, a lot of the weight gain would have been Fluid to rebalance your dehydration, and thats why your pooing more and getting ride of your toxins. I can only have a max of 4.5ml in band on a permanant basis and put 1 stone on when my fill levels had to be reduced. however it does rebalance the important thing is now not to over eat (easier said than done) and to re educate potion sizes again easier said than done I dont know how your financially situated but I found diet chef where everything is precounted and delivered to you door around £5 a day ish helps to guide you on what is a normal level and the food is band friendly

The worst thing you can do is do nothing and worry, take control, and help your band, your going to renourish your body for an important event and afterwards you can always have your band refilled in the future enjoy yourself, nurture your self and the very best of luck with the next faze of your life love mmm xxx,

  5. Afternoon Gang

Well its almost a week since I seen Dr Chris and had .25ml added to my band and I have got restriction. I simply cannot eat anything in the morning. At lunchtime today I tried a cup a Soup and a crispbread - managed the crispbread and 2 spoonfuls of soup before it got stuck and eventually came back to haunt me.

Last night I tried to have some chicken - again no way it was going down. My only worry is what should I be eating???? I am starting to feel quite cold and tired and worried my body is not getting enough nutrition. I bought some Multi Vitamins but they are too bloody big and cant swallow them AARRGGHHH.

On the huge plus side I have lost 3 lbs since last Thursday so it is working and doing the job it is meant to do.

Garry sorry to hear your having yours removed after having gone through quite an ordeal - you were a huge inspiration to me and I wish you every success for the future.

SaraP - so sorry your having problems, did you remember to ask what size your band is? Have you got any restriction in last few days?

Hope everyone is doing well and take care

    Kerry x

Woop woop that is a big restriction, at the very least you should be having a few high quality (protein) shake and plenty of Water if everything is chilled you might find it easier, Bassetts do a chewey multi vit which you can suck in blackcurrent flavour

Good luck hope all goes good for you and you see the weight loss you want, love mmmxxx

  6. HI mags lovely to hear from you, i wish i could tell you that thay all have been sorted but i would be lying hahaha. i am awaiting the complete removal of my band, ive been for a ct scan and going for an edoscopy on fri as she thinks its probably eroded and has to work out the best way to remove it  I have had 2 ports placed and both have ended up infected which point to the band and tubing itself being infected so it has to come out. This has been going on now since sept so in fairness i want it out, i have had no restriction since then and havnt gained as i am still mad for the training and train 6 days a week, my diet could be better but not too bad and i think as i have been fighting infection and taking tablets foir so long my metabolismn is f@@@ed so il be glad to get it out.

In reflection i do not regret getting it< yes ive had my problems moreso than normal but its helped id say its lost 40% of my weight but its helped changed my view, even now with no restriction my view to large plates is very different, yes i still enjoy eating crap but that will never change but fortunatley excercise keeps that at bay.

    Regards g

Was really a friday the 13th for both of us, but as you say I dont regret it one bit and any weight off is a bonus, and looking at your photos on Facebook, you are in great shape, your obviously enjoying your social life around training and have a great network of friends.

I'm still having issues but nothing as bad as it was, but have'nt got restriction, as soon as I get anywhere near even a small amount of restriction I get acid reflux and asthma, so I can have no more than 4ml in my band, however if I get de-filled I eat like food is going out of fashion so the band must be doing something in curbing my apetite. even though it doesnt resrict the type of food I can eat.

I'm so pleased you have such a positive outlook, and l'm sure you will be able to maintain your weight with the training. Good luck mmmxxx

  7. hey all, just thought i would stick my head on here and see who is still about from my era a while back on this site, for all that i know i hope your doing well and for all new guys i hope your band is working for you.

    gx

Hi Gary, I'm still around and still struggling but not so bad, but hey look at your bmi, I'm so impressed. but did'nt doubt you

Have all your issues been sorted now, and are you still having nhs treatment

    Love mmm

  8. Hi Slinky, Congratulations on your weight loss! I had a baby girl, 6 lb 2oz on 11/11/10 her name is Rose. I am not worried about losing the weight....thats why i love my band, although its very weird to be on liquids again. I do my own fills, although i dont recommend for anyone else too!

Congrats carriejess, I've been wondering how the pregnancy went and what you had girl or boy so its all great news for you now, well done darling.

Hi freckles, nice to see you back, I've been lurking in the side wings, reading posts but not responding, I like you have had a gain after having some taken out because of reflux.

Just a quick update I went to Belgium between christmas and New year to see Dr Chris regarding my reflux he told me that the band wont work for me unless I also reduce my calories very low and cut out liquid fat (chocolate) and the only other thing would be to have a by-pass but at a bmi of around 30ish its not going to happen.

I went to his house and had a xray for which he charged me only 50euros which included a small fill but the taxis also cost around 50 euros. It was reasuring to know the band was in a good position, so now I've had 2 xrays one at bupa Cardiff and one in belgium both show all is well, and theres no obvious cause for the reflux. The advise from both surgeons has been keep taking the omeprazole, sleep propped up dont eat after 6pm eat low calorie food and do strenious excercise to use up calories.

I have now ordered pre calorie counted meals from diet chef to hopefully get down to 75kg (Dr Chris gave this as appropriate for me). Its a constant battle but I am remotivated so although I can have only about 4ml in my band it may still help me from getting quite as hungry.

Slinky your doing a grand job of keeping everything going whilst we pop in and out, keep up the good work.

  9. Getting really fed up - not been able to eat hardly anything for few weeks now and feeling tired and drained

Today I managed 1 potato waffle with little bit egg (then sick), left it till tea time and family were having sausage casserle wi mash and yorkies, I managed 3 spoonful mash and 1 half sausage ......help I cannae possibly survive on such small amounts

Gonna try some slim fast shakes this week to try and get some nutrients in

    Kerry xx

    Hi Scooby,

Its a big learning curve isnt it, I'm 18 months banded and what you have described is the amount I will eat on a normal day and that would be on a big amount of food day, trust me you will survive on such small amounts. It was a big surprise to see how little food we need to eat just to maintain current weight not alone lose weight. I just make sure I have a daily Vitamin and mineral and try to keep a good level of fluids. I've noticed youve done really well with your weight loss, you must be really pleased, its worth doing without food to get the results. Keep up the good work. mmmxxx

  10. Hi again - less than 4 weeks now till my op and I'm following the chat very closely. If you have a fill and it's too much and you need some Fluid removed, where do you go? I guess you can't always wait till Dr Chris and Frederik are in UK?

Most bupa/spire hospitals can do it, as can weight loss surgery group, in absolute emergencies your A&E department will use the emergency telephone number given to you by Dr Chris, and he has been know to talk another doctor through the proceedure. There used to be a clinic every weekend in London (not sure if its still open) to get emergency defills so that you dont need to wait a full month. The best thing is to drink at least 2 cups of Water after each fill to make sure you can at least drink fluids.

I had'nt heard previously that Dr Chris has doctors and nurses in arears around the uk to do emergency defills.

  11. If your asking if the fill hurts the answer is not at all. You go into a room get weighed, discuss current position options, problems, nurse gives advise and recommends then you lay down on a bed, lift your top to about bottom of bra level, no need to undress is wearing seperates, so that the port can be accessed. you might feel a pin prick. for the first few fills you wont feel anything when the Fluid is put in. Then its over, you just pay and go into the waiting room have a cup or two of Water just to make sure fluids are going down ok. You will also be given advise on staying on liquids- moving onto mushies- then onto usual food, post fill. The only painful part is parting from the money at regular times until you get some restriction- some feel restriction after 1 or 2 fills other after 4-5 it depends on the individual and on the bands fitted. Most bands given to females last year held 7ml, but I dont know whats being used now. Dont forget to take your book with the stamps on to your fills, this tells the nurse the type of band you have. I felt that whenever I had a fill I was remotivated and the liquid/mushy food days encouraged weight loss

  12. Hi,

I am 9 days post op, but am feeling hungry quite a lot. It doesnt take much to fill me up, but tonight I was especially hungry and I really felt like I needed something of substance, so I had the middle of a very well done jacket potato mashed up with tuna and mayo and it went down fine.

Now I am really surprised by this as I fully expected to be bringing it back up, but I ate half a bowl full and felt absoulutley fine.

To be honest, I could have probably eaten a bit more but I was too scared to.

Has anyone else felt hungry and ate near normal food this soon after op, or am I the only one in the world this op isn't going to work for? :)

On the up side, I did lose 8lb the first week after op :wink2:

I was the same it just means your healing quickly, just keep to eating slowly and chew thoughly, good luck

  13. Hi all,

just wanted to get some advice from you other bandsters that have 'been there, got the t-shirt'.

I have been having bad night time reflux for about a month now, did not start immediately after my last fill. It probably occurs about 80% of the time, I awake coughing and choking and have to go and be sick, last 2 nights only about 4 hours sleep before it started. If you have had this can you tell me how it was resolved, I am thinking it will have to be a de-fill but have been trying different things to make it go away ie liquid evening meal or not eating after 4pm, sometimes it works sometimes not, so I am wondering if there is any other solution other than the de-fill route, please pass on your wisdom to me and then I will have to maybe contact 'The Team'.

    Many thanks one and all

Hi Mia blue, I have been having night reflux now close to 1 year, a defill is the best option but it need'nt be a lot sometimes only .25ml will sort it. However if you want to try otherthings first then here are my tips

    * dont eat choc after mid day (its slippery and comes back up easily.

    * go to your gp for omeprazole, I take 2x20mg each evening

    * last thing drink a fizzy drink (half hr before bed, it pushes everything through band)

    * if you start to cough at night prop your self up to near sitting position and suck a blackcurrant and liquorice sweet.

I have done all of these and only get reflux occationally now,

If these dont help get an xray done if you have'nt had your annual one done yet and it will show if your band had slipped or if you are developing a pouch.

ps if you pannicking about a defill dont be, it wont make that much difference and if there is any inflamation around your band once it is sorted you might be able to re-fill again.

I know its a miserable time for you, and you feel awful when you dont get enough sleep, but you dont have to put up with it.

Hope this info helps, you can pm me if you want with your phone number and I'll ring you back.

  14. Hi Mmm - I'm sorry to hear about the reflux issue. I had a tummy bug (no vomiting thankfully) a few weeks ago and developed night-time acid reflux even though I could eat a reasonable amount. Because I could eat a reasonable amount I decided to have a very small fill today (0.25ml) as I won't be able to get to clinic for a couple of months. I hope I've not made the wrong decision. I thought that because I could eat quite a bit the tightness of the band wasn't causing the reflux. My doc has put me on the same tab's as you but I've only been taking them a week so haven't really had chance for them to work. I'll just see how it goes.

I'm at 8.50ml in a 7-9ml band but it doesn't feel tight at all - hopefully perfect after this small fill.

Fingers crossed the tablets work and the reflux sorts itself out! How long did you have it for before having a defill?

I'm glad you are happy at the weight level you are at. I'm getting there..................!

Hi Sammy, just like you I can eat loads (full potion sizes) so the band is filled to a level which gives very little restriction, but I still get the reflux, I'm still please that I had the band fitted because I no longer go on eating binges, and rarly feel hungry, I'm just greedy, and eat load of choc and sweets, no doubt IF I could get myself motivated to eat only healthy low calorie foods I would restart my weight loss

  15. Hi M is the medication you take for severe wind I'm being banded on 27

Hi sher the medication is because at one stage I had my band overfilled and it caused night time reflux, I have now have had quite a lot taken out but still sometimes get reflux even though I take omeprazole every evening, the dissadvantage is that I have stopped loosing weight

  16. Hi Gary and Freckles, and all you newbies, its great hearing all your news. WOW gary you have done amazing 9 and a half stone you must be so please that you took that step on Fri 13th. SORRY i have'nt kept intouch but I've only just got back after a six week holls.

My weight is still static, but I'm quite happy at this level, even if it is higher than I first would have expected. I'm still having issues with night cough and reflux so its better for me not to have the band any tighter.
