    Lap Band & Pregnancy

I did have an overfill and went to get some taken out today, and while I was there I asked him about the earliest time after birth that he recommended to have a re-fill, he asked about breast feeding, and if you intend to do so he suggested not to be filled until after 4weeks of the birth. Hope this info helps
  3. These were some of the symptoms but I would have been quite happy putting up with them as long as there was'nt a special funtion I needed to attend. My problem was with acid reflux at night I'll try to describe it to you: whenever I laid down day or night, my throat would fill with slime, and if I did'nt spit it out right away it would pass into the airways tube and onto my chest causing me to cough, sometimes when you cough it would feel as if you have a chest infection, heavey and with the production of phlem or mucus, which when you are sleeping chokes you. Its quite scarey to wake up feeling your choking, and you have'nt got time to get anywhere to sort it out. I had to move into another bedroom and have a sick bowl by my side throughout the night. Sorry to be so graffic but it is that horrible. Hope this helps
  4. Welcome back Gillian, I have missed you, why dont you put a ticker on so that we can see how your doing,, its great to see your friends doing well with the weight loss, but its also great to hear things are as well in your posts
  5. Welcome singing parrot, you sound such good fun, I'm sure you'll soon be one of the regulars on here. Freckles, what a silly question, of course you can come, and if you need to you can have a double fill with Dr Chris whilst your there. I'm glad the zantac are working for you it must be a relief to get a good night sleep. Garry I'm still feeling cross on your behalf about your naughty band, but you still put me shame, I've a fully functioning one and you've still lost more than me. THE OVER FILL SARGA CONTINUES: I telephone Wendy from WLS group at about 8am this morning and left a message, but still no reply, so I telephoned the office on the free phone number at 9.30 and still no reply there either so left another message. By 12.45 no one had phoned me back, so I telephoned Mr Wong the BUPA/SPIRE surgeon who did the fill for me and his secretary asked me to come in right away. He was in surgery today and wanted to see me asap, He was most apologetic about the over fill explaining that it often happens when filling near the maximum capacity, but he said he should have been firmer with me and made it clear that I should go back if there was any difficulty what so ever. I did know this but it was just vanity over the quick weight loss I was having that stopped me from doing so. I explained that I was happy putting up with not eating, but was getting very tired with not being able sleep much. I also told him the reason I had come for an unfil was because I had read on here that several people who had had a band slip had reported this night acid reflux as being the first symptom, and that their inaction to rectify it has resulted in the band slipping. His view on this is that it is not a pre-slip sign but more of a post slip sign, but he said he though mine was fine by what I had told him and that there was no other pain. The result was that we agreed he take .3ml out, which leaves me with 6.66ml (all the sixes, I told you I had a naughty band), and the good news is, is that there was no charge at all for the consultancy or the unfill. It leaves me now to see if this has worked at all, I must say I now feel hungrier now than I have for a week, and feel I can eat something again, which is good and bad news. I'll report tomorrow on how this has affected the ruflex at night. Thanks Sammy, Bigsister, and Gary for you pms over this episode.
  6. Hi Gary, was it Chris deprez you saw for your fill, he's very experienced so no doubt he thinks there must be a problem that can be resolved, I'm quite impressed with the amount of time and information he gives us, however I'm not as impressed with the Spire surgeon I saw last week, he hardly looked at my notes, and made the decision to inject 1ml without discussing it with me, this has now resulted in my overfill which I need to resolve this week. I've also noticed that you are nearly half way to your target weight, thats really good considering your bad start with the heamatoma and with your non restriction now. Do you think the both are connected. Send flirty my love, she is such a brave chick.
  7. Hi Sammy can you please let me have her number, I'll then be able to make a choice in the morning, as to what I'll do.
  8. Hi big Sis, please tell flirty I'm thinking about her, and I hope all is going as planned for her. I was thinking about a big get together for us AND dont we all have to have an annual check up in Belgium for the band to be seen under xray, well, there were quite a few of us banded there around the same time, it might be fun to meet there.
  9. I'd love to meet up I can come into cardiff that evening if its ok, do you friends know about the band.
  10. No different wedding, ours is at Porthcawl, about 25 miles away, I'm a bit cross because if it was any other day I'd come to see you in Cardiff before your wedding. I would have tried the Zantac but now I'm quite concerned about having an indentation around the stomach, and future fills not working, mind you if i've got 7ml in a 7ml band i dont suppose there is room for any more fills, I'll get the Zantac tomorrow and see how I go before the end of next week when I'll need to make a descision. If anyone knows if WLS group are in Cardiff next week can you let me know, the only reason I hav'nt used them is because I was in France on every single appointment date for Cardiff.
  11. I'm trying to get an unfill this week, but I want to lose 2lb more to reach my target of 2 stones which I set to achieve by wedding date 7th Aug, so by mid/end week I should be there, I'll go back to spire on Sat morning (the day suits me) and sort it out promise. I feel so damn ill I cant keep this level of restriction up, it takes all day to drink 1lr of fluids, and I'm awake most of the night. On the plus side of course I'm losing about a 1lb a day and for such a slow looser as me that is wonderful. I've just seen that Fredrick is in Bristol on Thurs, and I'll look up WLS for Cardiff.
  12. Hi freckles, yes this over fill is a bit of a problem, I could'nt even drink a spoon full of tea this morning, but by 5pm i did manage 3 forks of cauliflower cheese, which is an improvement on yesterday where I could only look at it and sniff. Then something strange happened I ate some duck breast and it went down no trouble. This band is really strange, I cant drink tea but I can eat duck it does not seem logical. Like you I cant have anything to eat or drink after about 7.30 otherwise I get reflux all night. I read on another thread that someone else in the uk had their band filled close to capacity and when on a 1.5 hour flight to spain, they had all the overfill symptoms that we have during her holls, and when she returned she still had them so she went for a unfill, when she was examined it was found that the band had slipped because it was full to capacity and she flew (even a short flight) had caused this. So even if this moody band slackens off a bit I'll still have some taken out before I fly back to France at the end of Aug.

Do you have the fills through Spire with Mr Wong, not under xray, or with spire under xray or do you use WLS. My daughter has been advised to have a unfill (not under xray) on week 30ish did you do the same, if so how much was taken out. I usually have my fills with Chris Deprez from Belgium in Newport £80, but last month I could'nt make the appointment so went to Mr Wong, but I think I've had an overfill and one week on still cannot eat anything.

    Lap Band & Pregnancy

Hi, my daughter is pregnant, and due in Oct, she will be having her fill taken out in about 2 weeks at Spire Cardiff, I'll try to remember to ask the surgeon when would be the earliest for her to get a refill if I find out I'll let you know. Where will you be having your fills done?
  15. I wrote on here last week that I was going to Spire Cardiff for a fill, because I could'nt get to my usual Chris Deprez venue, I did go and had a fill of 1ml. I have a 7ml band and now have 7ml fill, and tight is not the word to describe it, one wekk on I can only drink tea coffee and Water. I can't even have Soup, even if its strained; ice cream; yogs; or anything at all. I know I should have an unfill (what a strange word,) but I'm losing weight and the uncomfortable feeling is just about worth it. This is just a cautionary word that if you get overfilled, it is extremely painfull and almost dibilitating, and the means have to justify the end, if it was'nt for this wedding in August and I need to wear a size 12 dress, I would most def do something about it. I am still craving food, but cannot keep anything at all down, so to night I made cauliflower cheese and just sat and smelt it. Happy days. The things we do for vanity. Love maggs.
  16. I did shelly, dont worry too much about it, once you have a good restriction, you eating will reduce again. I put on 7lb inbetween op and fills, and I've also put on weight between fills but it will smooth itself out, and you will start to lose weight regularly once the band is filled to your sweet spot. I really wanted and expected my weight only to reduce, but it is'nt always like that, get a fill asap and you'll start getting on track. It took me about 12 weeks to start to see a permanant downwards pattern. If you need to eat lots, like I did try to stick to protein for EVERY meal it may help you feel fuller until you can have a fill. Dont beat yourself up about a little slip, we're in this for the long haul, and we're not going to get it right first time. ( ps your cravings might be hormonal, monthly)
  17. Hi flirty, good luck and my best wishes go with you. Would you mind if any of you text buddies reported your progress on here. I really need to know that you are ok post op. If not would it be ok if they pm me. Im thinking about you all the time. love mmm
  18. Good luck flirty for your big day, how long are you in the uk for, and will you have access to wifi and laptop, if not would you have a problem with your visitors from here reporting on your progress because I def want to know that you are doing ok on a regular basis. Well done on giving up smoking, and think how many more clothes you can buy on the money you will save.
  19. Woop woop 9lb off hey your doing great, tell me more about this pouch shrinking diet, I think it may help me when my restriction wears off.
  20. He bee boo, I think the sweet spot is slightly different for different people, mine is where I can mostly eat what I want, but in much lower quantities, and still feel satisfied, (never go for the full feeling). and the weight loss is consistent allbeit mine is slow. For others it might be as tight as to cause high level of restriction, which will reduce the variety of foods tolerated, and then the result will be a much faster weight loss. It also depends on how much weight you have to loose, when you're on your last 2 stone its slower. I now have 7ml in a 7-9ml band but can eat most things slowly and the band does not interfear with my life syle, weight loss is slow but steady ish, so for me its at the sweet spot now, If I want to loose weight any quicker I'll have to seriously look at WHAT i'm eating, rather than the quantity.
  21. Had a fill on Saturday morning, at BUPA/Spire cardiff, with a Mr Wong, a surgeon who operates at both Cardiff and Bristol, I was quite pleased he was willing to give me a fill even though I did'nt have my op with him. A fill under xray would normally be around £250, but he did it without for £120, and is there every Sat morning. I think its a good option for those who work Mon - Fri, and live close enough. He has come across Mr Chris clients before, and had nothing negative to say, he only mentioned he'd prefer the port under the bust, because if a tummy tuck is required there is less disruption to the port and it would not have to be re-located if it was under the bust. I'm on liquids now until tomorrow, but had reflex last night which woke me up several times during the night, and thought of freckles every time.
  22. woop woop, whats going on with my weight. I've been eating for Britain this week, because there is absolutly no restriction on volume or speed of eating so I've had a week of over eating and ....... somehow lost 3 lb I'm so confused, but happy
  23. So pleased to hear from you big sister, and that things are now improving for you now that the band is showing you what it can do, its good is'nt it. I think my band should join your naughty sisters club, caus it just stopped working overnight. But I'm going to sort it out on the weekend. Little sis Gillian has been keeping us up to date with your fills and progress, and I can tell your both very close, and are tackling this together as a team.
  24. Hi flirty, I could tell that last post came straight from the heart, and it is going to be a roller coaster of emotions for you and is'nt something to be entered into lightly, but with the committment you have show to enriching you life, and becoming much happier, if anyone can go through with it you can, and because of your age this last 12 months has been life changing for you. Positives, negatives, laughing, crying, throw it all at us I'm sure there'll be people on here to support you through all the ups and downs, I for one will help and listen whenever I can.
  25. Flirty, that sounds amazing, can you get a tv programme to film and pay for your op, its a total body uplift. Have you asked the question about if in the future you had children how the skin around the stomach would react to the pregnancy bump, would it still stretch enough with out becoming too thin etc. I think you are so brave to go through with this all in one go, but if you are willing to accept the pain and incapacity you will have for a time, and can afford the cost of this op, then good luck and my best wishes I will be following your progress as if you were one of my own. Love mmm
