  4. hi all - my post band weight loss is going slow and whilst ive los weight i dont feel like i ever quite got going the way i had expected. i had my band in on december 23rd 08 - and its now october the 8th. so nearly 10 months. my highest weight was 319 my op weight was 295 and now im 260. Its going very slowly - it took lost of fills to get it tight enough 10/14mm and im now going well but its so much slower than most people. I do cheat at times with choc bars which i know i shouldnt - but my body feels entitled to such things as my mains meals are just a few 5-7 bites - because i can eat so little food i feel like i need some and so ill sometimes by candy etc. I need some words of encouragement to help me out of this - i know i need to stop with the sweets etc but its hard - anyone else looseing slow or finding it hard to cope without the food they used to enjoy. love to you all
  5. Hi - I was banded on st the 20th. my pre op diet was 5 days from the 15th-20th. I started my pre op at 304.5 lbs and lost 6lbs in the pre op. Its now been one week since surgery and im down to 284. which is 24lbs gone in 13 days!!!! obviously thats very quick and will slow down a lot but its a great start. (my target weight is 200 as im a 6 foot male- which is 10 lbs over "ideal") now for the problems gas pain - my chest and stomach feel tight and sore - sometimes looking quite bloated. I am takeing some tums but not pain meds - which i think ill go back on. yesterday was the first day i took of the dressing and put new ones on - the scars look small and clean - but when can i take dressings off for good? my dr said keep them dry for ten days (though i had a quick shower when the dressings were off) but when can i just forget about them and take off the dressings for good?? What can i do about the gas pains - is it common to still have them? - im a bit lathargic too - when did others feel "themselves" again? next question is about food - im suposed to be on the liquid diet and then going to mushies next week - but it seems there is so much down to interpritation. Some of my Soups are so thick (though never lumpy) that they could be interpritated as mushies and also i have added apple sauce to my diet as i was going mad on just soups and shakes. I was in a bad mood yesterday because of the lack off food and i dont want that to happen often. Any suggestions? i cant call my baratric nurse till tomorow because of the Christmas period so i am just looking for a bit of encouragemnt and some answers etc . thanks T
  6. my two cents/pense Firstly those who say such are usually thin and thus if they have any personal issues at a low weight - assume the same may be true of others - though to those overweight it tends to be the sole attribute they dislike. Those overweight often have to adapt their personality to be stronger, more determined and funny to compensate for that negative attribute. With weight loss the same strong likeable person remains but they no longer have one over rideing attribute...the weight My self for instance - i have a great family, wonderful and numerious friends, a enjoyable and very well paid job , a first class university degree, have travelled to 47 countrys and am in a good relationship. I am happy in almost every respect - my only problem is that i am 90 lbs over weight and until i adress that (banded next week) it will be one hand tied behind my back, running the race with a backpack/ my weight and possible related future health problems are the one "bad" aspect of my life that i can identify and the band is going to help me win that war. - so yes, i think the weight loss will make me that much more happy - no question

    Hi from Birmingham, UK

try healthierweight - its based in birmingham and the whole surgery is just about weight loss. their surgons have done over 6000 lap bands and Dr ashton is one of the worlds most respected specialists in obeseity and its treatment. - they have been using the lap band for 12 years. its more expensive (about 15% more) but you get what you pay for. Ive been very happy with them. I'd go with them - also its unlimited fills for free in first 18 months - and has great aftercare, support groups, diet advice, 24 hr emergency care etc
  8. hi all- Im 22 and from the UK (male)- my weight is 300 and i am looking to loose 80-100lbs over the next year or two - i am being banded in 3 weeks and will be posting here a lot to keep motivated and in contact . i am being banded just before christmas (so will be on liquids not turkey!!:wink2:) I didnt want to have to resort to such a drastic method - but i finally came to the realisation that i am not going to win this fight unaided- ive lost and gained weight for years but never got it under control and last year i peaked at 320lbs - i got down 20 or so - but i need to drop a lot more. but with the help of the band - and my full effort- we just may!! - obviouslty i have to do the work - but its "do-able" with the band- its not all that "do-able" without the early 20's are supposed to be the most active and fun years - but i was begining to feel like an old man - sleeping a lot - low energy- low sex drive- over eating- feeling down and worrying about the future..... and all cause of my weight - - every other aspect of my life im very happy with.,, (friends/family/education/accomplishments/etc etc) since i have been confirmed for the Opp i feel like a weights off my shoulder as i know that even though im big now - ive a real chance of getting out of this for good.....which i never really felt before - even when dieting. Ive been lucky in that i didnt really look noticably over weight at all until i hit 240-250 becuase of my height, strong build and (half decent) looks. so i think the first 50 lbs will make a huge difference and ill be happy to settle at 210 for life.(with 188 being my listed "ideal" - but not accounting for my strong frame - i do lots of weight lifting/rugby) One question i would like to ask is - who did you tell and how did you tell them - (i dont want many people to know - to begin with atleast....) very excited and not at all nervious (yet) my very warmest regards TF
