  2. Hey Lisa

About your question regarding PCOS, I haven't researched any tests that said there was interference with alcohol.

Mostly with PCOS, it's an imbalance of hormones and androgen levels. I don't drink alcohol, but I do know that some alcohol has a lot of calories.

PCOS is related to insulin resistance which results when a person consumes too many carbs that break down into sugars. Maybe alcohol has a lot of carbs in it. In that case, consuming a lot of alcohol (along with anything else that is high in carbs) will result in complications with insulin resistance. Insulin resistance will cause the out-of-whack hormone levels which can interfere with trying to get pregnant.

Most endocronologists recommend a low carb, low fat, high protein diet, along with medications such as Metformin and birth control. Metformin has proven to help women with PCOS get pregnant.

If your friend has any more questions, I would be happy to answer them as best as I can.

    Hope that helps

    Kasi

  3. Hi Kasi!

I'm glad to meet you and I hope the pounds start to melt away on us all!

I read you have PCOS, I have a relative with the same condition and I wanted to actually ask you a question. I understand PCOS can be a very complicated condition, so forgive me if the question sounds ignorent.

Is the act of drinking alcohol, regularly, 2-3 drinks a day approximately, affect in some way a woman's PCOS if she is trying to get pregnant?

Let me know if you happen to know....thanks!

And good luck on your journey, hermana, I was banded about the same time as you, 11/12/08, so it will be cool to share regarding our progress!

    Buena suerte!!!

    Lisa

  4. Yeah I definitely agree with everything I have read. I think I'm getting my body into "shape" first because several people have commented that I look like I've lost 20lbs.. Oh well.. I have to cut back more calories. Before I was banded, I was getting my last bit of "freedom" in and consuming almost anything that I wanted (which of course was not smart!). So I know I have decreased my calorie intake from that, but perhaps I need to just be more selective in my food choices. I have been sticking to the high Protein diet, but I think I could still tighten it up some more. One more good point about exercisers vs. non-exercisers is that in my opinion, they tend to look better. Look at the contestants on the Biggest Loser. After some of them lose weight, I can not tell they had ever had a weight problem or had ever been overweight to begin with. Sometimes when I see those who have lost weight without exercising... well let's just say that I'm just not jealous of them! Haha.. Well thanks for the responses and the suggestions. I will keep everything you all said in mind! Kasi
  5. I am about 5 weeks post-op and I must say that I am a bit concerned about my weight loss journey so far. As some of us on this site, I have been heavy all of my life; however, I've always been an athlete. I was a collegiate athlete as well (shot put, discus, hammer), so I thought it would be a breeze to lose weight with the lap band while being an advid exercise-er... Anyway, I've been going to the gym about 4 days a week, burning an average of 700 calories in an hour or so. I usually jog, do the eliptical, or walk on a steep incline on the treadmill. I hadn't started lifting weights yet until I was cleared by my doc which was yesterday. Well I definitely notice that I can now fit in clothing I could not fit in to.. not even if I sucked in.. before my surgery, but I haven't lost not one single pound! I am a bit discouraged right now. I've always been more muscular than the average chick, so at 5'7, I'm about 265lbs, and a size 18. Has anyone else experienced these kind of results. I thought I was doing well with my journey until I weighed myself at the doctor's office. I'm a bit worried and mad at myself for now.
  6. Hey Trina :) Yes, so far I like my realize band. I haven't gotten it filled yet but I am still feeling some restriction even without the fill. Recovery time wasn't too bad either! You still have to admit that 42lbs is a lot of weight in a 5 month period, so you should be very pleased with yourself! I can't wait to start losing weight myself. Every morning I wake up, I have to check myself out in the mirror to see if I can "tell a difference" lol. Running and jogging will help you lose weight in no time, I promise! Keep doing what you're doing and I know you will continue to see yourself lose weight. I can't wait to go back to the doctor so he can tell me it's okay to start jogging again. Well good luck with everything :)

  7. Hey girl! how do u like ur realize band? R U doin ok? Well i hope everythin is goin well for u and hope u meet ur goal. My name is trina and i was banded in june and have only lost 42# because i keep fluctuating but i think it is because i lift weights. I do the eliptical at least 4x a week and weights. i just started runnin this week but i have lost a lot of inches! i was in a 26-28 and can wear a 22 comfortable and a 20 if i don't like breathing. lol But since i like to breathe, i'll stick to 22's untill next month hopefully! TTYL!
