  1. I take blood pressure meds and he said that they are small enough that I don't have to mess with crushing them. I'm glad about that. When they are crushed you can taste them. YUCK! I went shopping today for all of the stuff that I will need after the surgery.
  2. I do have to stay overnight at John Sealy in Galveston. They do have support groups and I believe that they meet at the UTMB clinic near where the old walmart used to be in La Marque. Probably the hardest thing for me will be not to eat sweets. I have a bit of a sweet tooth especially when it comes to chocolate. lol But I know that I can do it. I am committed to making this work.
  3. Well the first two weeks it's a liquid diet. Then soft food for two weeks after that. Every doctor is different I guess in what they recommend. I really like the staff at UTMB. They are very nice and caring.
  4. I am using Dr. Gomez from the UTMB Center for Weight Management. I am nervous and excited about the surgery. it's just around the corner.
  5. So far I have been very happy with all of the staff. They are very caring and organized. They really make you feel as if you are their only patient. I will let you know how it goes during my hospital stay. The surgery will be done at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. Only one week to go.
  6. I live in Galveston County. I am being banded on August 18th.

    August 2009 bandsters?

I am getting banded on August 18th. I don't have any special pre-op diet that I have to follow. I had my pre-op doc visit last week and I found out that the day before my surgery I do have to go on a liquid diet. I was surprised. I had heard of other people having to go on a liquid diet for a week to 3 weeks before surgery. I'm very excited though. I can't wait.

  12. Hey I'm just sitting here waiting for my doctors office to call me back. My mother is really annoying me because she is going out of town in July and wants me to schedule everything around that. I have no idea what the doctors office is going to schedule. Do they have a limited number of slots? What if the only time they offer is while my mother is out of town? I really do not want to put it off just for that. I don't know. What do you guys think? Am I being a brat? I'm 30 years old I should be able to have my surgery whenever I want right? lol
  13. LOL I guess the title could go both ways huh? I didn't even realize that. No I don't absolutely need her here although she thinks that yes I do. My fiance was planning on taking a couple of days off when we find out when my surgery is so he could be with me. My mother tends to want to take charge of everything. God bless her she just can't help it. Well I guess I will just wait and see what the doctors schedule looks like. If it is when she is out of town then so be it.

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

I do not have my surgery scheduled yet but my doctor told me that it would probably be in June. I'm a little more than half way through the insurance mandated 6 month diet. My four month visit is at the end of this month. I am both excited and nervous. Maybe I will feel better when the surgery is scheduled.
  20. The surgeon that I met with is Dr. Gomez. He seems very nice. Thanks for your reply. I will definatly keep in touch. Devon
  21. Hello. I am going through the UTMB Center for Weight Management for the lab band surgery. I had my first appointment with the dietition and I met the surgeon before the Christmas holiday. Would you mind telling me alittle bit about you experience with them? My second appointment is on January 26th and this all doesn't feel real yet. I'm still nervous about this decision and I just don't know what you expect. The surgeon thinks that I will be able to have the procedure done in May or June. Anyway, anything you can share with me would be helpful. Thanks, Devon
  22. Hi! I am attending the informational seminar on 11/20 at the UTMB Medical Weight Loss Clinic. Has anyone used them? Thanks Devon
