  1. You got this don't worry! Try to stay away from carbs. I was basically carbless the first 4 months after surgery and lost about 40lbs. Keep walking it will pay off I really only ever walked and still do. Don't be so hard on yourself you have no fill yet! =) GL!

    Goals

Originally my goal was 138 even though I had multiple doctors tell me that it might not be too feasible with my frame. I'm now aiming for 148. I'm trying to reward myself with things that aren't food related. Like I think when i make my next mini goal I'm going to go horseback riding.

    BREAD

Another thing.....I don't have a craving for bread often but if I do I usually have a Quesadilla and so long as I chew well it goes through and is satisfying! That thin "bread" seems to be ok.

    Eating w/others

I do the same thing and am currently trying to change it. I'm trying to pretend I'm always eating in front of others so I eat like a bird more often LOL.

To weigh or not to weigh?

I didn't lose anything before the surgery. Did they tell you that you had to lose a certain amount?
  7. I tend to want to sleep through pain so it was a real struggle for the docs and my family to get me up and moving which prolonged my recovery. You really need to walk to work the gas pains out of your body and beleive it or not the more you move the better you will feel. The port incision is the worst one. You'll hardly notice the others.
  8. Yes..........however some people have certain foods they feel they can't eat. Some people can't eat bread, other can eat bread but not rice. ect ect everyone is different. I personally have the most problems with thick bread and potatoes.
  9. I always tend to gain a little or stop losing when I first go back to working out. I think your body like objects to change lol. Give it time I usualy drop like 5lbs all of the sudden. Also, if you're gaining muscle that weighs more than fat but it's good because the more muscle you have the more calories you will burn. =)

    BREAD

I ate a very low carb diet the first 4 months banded and lost nearly 40lbs. When I started eating carbs again I did put some weight back on. I totally suggest just staying away from them. They don’t really agree with the band anyway. I think people are talking about when they have restriction mostly.

    Food addiction

Banded for 5 yrs and I still struggle with food addiction. I think you have to realize that you'll never be cured of it but the band is like your support group and can help you deal with it.
  12. There is more maintenance with the band (meaning the fills) and I have a feeling some doctors offices are getting tired of that. Personally I like the maintenance because I feel I have more chances to be held accountable because I have more visits to the doctors office. The band has been a wonderful tool for me and I've had it 5 years and still LOVE it.

How do you handle the pressure?

I'm very upset that they are trying to push you toward one over the other, this is your choice! My surgeon said to me as I went back and forth with bypass that if I went for lap band I'd be eligible for other things that might help with weight loss down the road but if I started cutting my stomach ect ect I wouldn't be eligible. Do what you think is right. You need to decide that you know what is best!
  14. Congrats, enjoy the journey!!

    5 Years Banded Here

@@catfish87 Thanks! Looks like you were banded jut a few months after me! When we first started out those who had already been banded 5 years seemed like they had been banded forever to me! I can’t believe how fast 5 yrs went by!

What To Do When Food Gets Stuck?

Well I would not force yourself to throw up. However sometimes when I have something stuck all I have to do it lean over the toilet and it comes right how. Whatever you do don’t drink, it always makes it worse for me. Walk around as much as you can maybe it will move it?

    2 question

hmmm you probably just have air trapped which happens to me now and then. I would make sure you're chewing enough and eating slowly. If you aren't doing those two things that could definetly cuase you to feel sick.

Take off those regain glasses and turn it around!

Wow thank you for this! You said lots of things I tell people all the time. I personally lost 103lbs to gain 30lbs back. I've recently taken off my regain glasses and am feeling great again! =)
  19. If I recall correctly I lost about 38lbs my first 4 months post op with very little exercise. As you lose weight the fat pad around your band becomes smaller making you feel less restricted so your stall in weight loss could be due to your 28lb loss. The fill may really help you. I still don’t exercise all that much. I walk and do a 15 minute circuit training video a few times per week. If you’re ok with slow and steady weight loss then I don’t think you’ll need to work out much so long as you stay restricted. GL!

    7.25 fill

I've been to the ER for unfills a couple times, it's a pain! The ER docs have no clue how to do it so I always wait hours for a member of the WLS team to come do it. Ironically they don't really know how to do it either because they rarly do it, they just do the surgery! lol it's commical to watch them try, I'm usualy giving instructions. It's normal for your port to tilt a you lose weight, mine is pretty titled. I usually give it a day or two before I go for an unfill if I can't drink. I suggest going during business hours though so your normal doc can do it. GL!

    Still not really losing

I don’t think the goal is 2 meals per day. My assumption is he might be asking that because a lot of bandsters only eat 2. I for one have never eaten Breakfast and still don’t. Protein is real important for those banded so yes I always start with it to make sure I can fit it in. Lots of times I don’t even end up eating anything else. Sometimes I fit a piece of fruit in-between meals. I suggest setting small weight loss goals for yourself. Like right now maybe your goal is 199. That sounds a lot more doable than 160 to the brain! Then maybe once you hit 199 your goal is 180? I set small goals for myself and it makes it so much easier! GL!

    5 Years Banded Here

Wow, thank you so much for posting. I thrive on the stories of long term bander success, and you are!!! Most of us have lost weight before, but gave up when we regained, only to be worse off than when we started. I'm so ready for my LapBand to be the end of my cycles of failure. Thank you and congratulations. You are beautiful!! Thank you although you are much too kind! =) I’m so thankful for my band and STILL love having it 5 years later; I’d never give it back. So long as I work with it my little cheerleader inside makes me feel like I can do it. I have 28lbs to lose now and if I didn’t have my band I’d never believe I could do that on my own.

    Dieting

You have to not stress because the second you stress you’ll probably either stop losing or start gaining. Due to the stresses of life I put 30lbs of my 103lb weight loss back on. Take it from me, don’t stress! At the same time I’m most successful when I think of this journey as a lifestyle change and not a diet. My surgeon did not require weekly weigh ins, I only weighed in when I went for fills so I can’t relate to that. Take it day by day, you can do this but changing your lifestyle won’t happen overnight it really is a process. When I was first banded I always use to ask myself “If my body hungry or is my head hungry?” 9/10 it was my head and I passed on the food.

Thank you and congrats on your weight loss! So many people don't think 50lbs is a lot when they compare it to the total weight they need to shed but 50lbs is a massive amount! Congrats! Slow and steady wins the race!!
