    under active thyroid

I've been on Levothyroxine for several months and according to what I've read it is supposed to help you maintain a healthy weight by replacing the natural hormone your body just isn't producing so unless they put you on way too high of a dose it will only help your body to maintain a healthy weight. Congrats on the quick weight loss I weighed 348 pounds on January 20th this year. By my surgery date on 2/6/09 I had dropped down to 325 as of this morning I weighed 278. I am extremely happy with the result of the band and cannott wait to be so close to my goal (180) Good luck witht he thyroid!!

    Update on the leak...

That is absolutely awful and I am so sorry to hear about it. I work at a hospital and it sucks but when stuff like this happens you are still on the hook for the fee. The only thing I would check is to see if the company is willing to cover any of the cost of your new surgery, you should contact realize themselves because it is their screw up. Good luck to you!

    regrets?

I agree not a single regret! The second week in January this year I weighed in at 348 pounds now only a little more than 3 months later and I weigh 285 it is hard work but really at the point I was at what options are there. I feel so good now! Good luck to you whatever you decide to do.
  4. Ok I had my surgery on 2/6/09 and had a couple months to lose the 15 pounds I was supposed to take off before surgery but of course I waited till 2 weeks before to do it. I went to wal-mart and did the hollywood 48 hour liquid miracle diet lost 8 pounds (water weight) in 2 days. After I did 2 shakes and 1 small meal a day by the 2 weeks I was able to lose it. Good luck!!

3 Month post op appointment today

So I had my 3 month post op appt today and before I start complaining let me say I have gone from 348 pounds in the second week of January to 286 pounds!! The dietician at my surgeons office said that was one of the highest weight losses she had seen at 3 months. I have been working out so hard every single day it was awesome to see it all paying off. Now for the complaining my doctors office has an amazing nurse that does all the fills but she is leaving at the end of June so she has been training another nurse for several months. Well the nurse that always does it is off till Tuesday of next week so I saw the trainee and she could not find my port. I got stuck 3 times and she was digging around for 10 minutes with the needle in me before she told me she couldn't find my port and I would need to come in next Tuesday to have the regular nurse do it. So now I have a bruise the side of my fist on my stomach and am soooooo nervous to get another fill it hurt so bad! I just don't understand with the other lady I don't even feel it ugh! Oh well done bitching I have lost 62 Pounds in a little over 3 months woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!

A vent that has nothing to do with being banded. :)

I agree she probably is jealous, you said that while your stepdaughter is an only child you have other kids. Her mom's whole life probably revolves around her daughter and if she isn't remarried herself she has alot of time to try and moniter what goes on at your house. Just keep smiling and don't give her what she wants which is probably a confrontation. Good luck

How to tell someone Im banded

I tell everyone about my band, if I could get a T-shirt that said banded 4 life I would so wear it! This is the most important thing I have ever done for myself and I find that 90% of the people who hear about it are truly interested I get alot of good questions and have had alot of good conversations about it. I find that when people know you are serious about really being healthy they are so supportive, everyone loves an underdog, right? So I would order what you feel comfortable eating maybe tell your date beforehand I guarantee people will be impressed because it shows that you care about yourself and that you take being healthy seriously! Good luck
  9. Woo Hoo down 30 and you quit smoking you are amazing and your body loves you :) !!!! Congrat's keep it up!! Have a great day!

  10. So I got banded on 2/6/09 when I started my pre op diet the second week of January I weighed in at 348 pounds for a female that was the most I had ever weighed in my entire life and I have no idea how I ever let it get so out of control. As of this morning I weighed in at 296 pounds!!!!! For most people that is still a ton but for me I am back in the 200's and so so proud of that! First goal officially reached!! Good luck to everyone, hope you all have a beautiful day!!!

    One Month banded today...

No problem!! Weight Watchers makes these great mini cups of ice cream and they only come 2 in a package they are great to keep in the freezer for when you have a big craving!!! Alot of flavor but still relatively little damage also the 2 small cups is a perfect portion and keeps me from overdoing it. 90% you I chose the band over the bypass because I wanted some control, but it's crazy how the old habits are in there and the times they creep up on me always throw me for a loop. Anyway good luck to us all!!!

    Grrrrrr!!!

I agree with Michelle I was terrified before. But I also had to do a liquid diet, if they think you are at risk for a fatty liver doctors do it just to be on the safe side. You will be fine after the surgery you will be so grateful that you have had this done!!! Having full control over what I eat is such a relief! Good luck to you!!
  15. Your right this is a good place to vent. I just know how bad complications can be. I worked in ar Emergency room which is where I met my husband who is a nurse in The ER still . It would just be a shame to do so much positive stuff for yourself and cancel it out for the negative. I'm sure you will do great :) Good luck!!!!

  16. You Probably don't want to hear it but truthfully you should worry more about the smoking than the teeth. There's a reason they make you quit before the surgery it aggravates the lining of your organs including your stomach and could potentially cause seriouse problems. Besides that it doesn't matter how hot you are when your dead! I know I used to smoke also did for 13 years and quit 2 years ago, hardest damn thing I ever did but you can do it and everyday you continue to smoke is just like everyday we put off losing weight. Good luck to you!!

    One Month banded today...

My surgeon put my band in with 3cc's in it so at my first fill on 3/25/09 I got 2 more which put me at 5cc's. I definitley noticed the difference but I wanted just a little bit more because I felt like I could eat over a cup at night. So 2 weeks after that on 4/8/09 I added another .5 cc's that seemed to be perfect I am still on pureed stuff cause for 4 days after the fill they have u eat soft but I notice a huge difference from 5 to 5.5cc's. I was hungry after my surgery not for a week or so but my appetite definitly came back and I didn't feel like I had that much restriction I was hungry between meals etc. My doctor's office says most people not all but most are comfortable within the 5-7 cc range. I feel like my weight loss is slow but I started this in the 2nd week of january doing my preop weight loss and since the 2nd week of January I have lost 44 lb's. I started heavier than some people though I was 345 when I started this so only a pound or so away from being back in the 200's :rolleyes2: Any more questions feel free to ask and good luck to you!!!!!!!!!!

    One Month banded today...

I felt disappointed at first also. I got banded 2/6/09 and by the time I had surgery I had lost 22 lbs on my own. For the first 6 weeks after surgery I only lost 11 more pounds which had me pissed!! After my fill 2 weeks ago which was my first I lost 9 more pounds and got another fill this morning of only a little over .5 cc just to really put me in the green. So I think once you are filled to a comfortable place it is alot easier. My problem is ice cream and sweet soft foods so I have to pay particular attention to that. I'm not perfect and when I screw up I say okay it's done nd move on but I will say I have been doiing 40 minutes at least 5 days a week at the gym on the treadmill and that's only been for the last few weeks and that's when the weight has started falling off. Do the gym for a week and see how much more you lose, you may shock yourself right into making it a habit! :rolleyes2: Good luck to you!!

    3 days post op...........

So I had my band put in on Friday the 6th by Dr Cobean at Maine Medical center. It's now Sunday night and I have decided not to go to work tomorrow. I did go to my anatomy class last night but I think I just overdid it this weekend and the gas pains are the ones that are getting me down:angry:. Even the port site doesn't hurt as much as all the gas in my stomach. I'm trying to get my liquids in but today I only got 2 protein shakes down and some water. I thought having to be around everyone in my family while they were eating and stuff was going to be really hard but honestly I'm hardly even thinking about food. I am so grateful to everyone on here who's stories I read and who gave me the courage to believe in myself and get this done. Thank you!!

To tell or not to tell...it's not even a question.

I know how you feel but I look at it the opposite way. I tell everyone about my band and I just got it on 2/6/09 the way I look at it is everyone knows I'm fat, it's not a secret and the band was a strong choice to make. Admitting your powerless over something like food and working to have something implanted in your baody is a HUGE step and one that I am so proud of!! I don't see the band as an easy way out I think it's the toughest because it will hold us accountable for the rest of our lives! Best of luck to you!!!

    Abreviations

So I'm pretty new to this banding thing, just got mine done on 2/6/09. Some of the letters I see people post and terms I don't get. I feel like an idiot asking but what does pb stand for and what is sliming after you eat. Thanks for your help

Feeling Fuller 5 weeks out before a full??????

Okay so I got banded on Feb 6th and for the first few weeks everything went great and I wasn't very hungry. Well about 2 weeks ago I started getting hungry again and felt like I had almost no restriction, I could eat much more than I should have been able too. Anyway the last few days I feel like I all of a sudden have some restriction. In the morning the first thing I eat takes awhile and I can't eat anywhere near what I could a week ago. Is there a reason this happens all of a sudden? Has this happened to anyone else, Is it normal? No other problems I don't get sick or anything like that just extra restriction. My first fill is scheduled for March 25th. Good luck to all the other bandsters out there, hope everyone has a terrific week!!!

  25. That's right I admit it I have been reading menus!! It's like I just can't see one and not flip through it. I love looking at food! I'm back on solids and I am making great decisions, eating small portions and getting exercise. I have lost 34 pounds since the second week in January! I just can't stop looking it's like I still have this food fascination. Now that I am on something other than liquids I feel so much better about this band and I am shocked at how quickly I get full! I guess eventually the love of looking will go away but for now I'll be the girl with the stack of menus under her mattress
