Pre Op fasting question please help

Yes my letter clearly states nothing to eat or drink after 7am and they said the same thing when they rang to confirm on friday. It is my understanding that you shouldn't eat or drink at least 6 hours prior to surgery.

    No pre-op die?

My pre op diet consisted of 2 optifast meal replacements. I usually had a bar for breakfast, soup for lunch and shake for dinner. I was also allowed to have 2 cups of vegies (no potatoes, peas or corn) which I had at night. Its been really hard. Good luck

Pre Op fasting question please help

Thanks - such different perspectives - they told me nothing to eat or drink after 7am. I don't go into the hospital until 12:30 and surgery will be sometime in the afternoon but you're right better to be safe than sorry so i'll just have a coffee and some juice.
  5. gentylwind - what do you mean the lap band and smoking aren't compatible? My surgeon didn't say anything to me about it and I'm being banded on Monday. I'm not smoking between now and the surgery but don't feel too positive about being able to give up at the moment.
  6. Good luck - i can't wait to hear how it all went
  7. I've just finished day 7 - half way through, surgery on the 8th. I have been really crabby too. I'm starving and this is making me really snappy. It's easier if i keep busy and drinking at least 2 litres of water really helps.

Post Op Diet and sick of fluids

My dietician told me that the fluid stage could be anywhere from 1-3 weeks depending on how I feel. He said I would know when I was ready to try something else (like pureed vegies) but when I do I need to try a small amount and see how I feel. If ok continue, if not go back on fluids for a few more days and try again. Everyone seems to be told something different though

Cheating on the Two Week Pre-Op Diet?

It is crazy how much this varies. I'm only allowed 3 optifast and 2 cups vegies. I'd love a piece of fruit. I am starving. I have nibbled a few times but haven't had any sort of breakout like having a "real" meal or anything. My surgery is 8th Dec so I still have a week of this to go. I don't know if I can last

    No Birth Control before surgery

I have implanon. I told them at my pre op and they didn't say anything

    Ketosis- Please help

Gee i wish I could have a lean cuisine meal. I'm on just 3 optislim "meals" and 2 cups of vegies. I have a bar for breakfast, a soup for lunch, vegies and shake for dinner. This is the end of day 4 - 10 to go and i'm struggling

Great News from the Big Fella

Wow Damo you've had quite an experience. I'm glad you are starting to feel better. Congratulations on your loss so far

    optifast vs optislim or others

Thanks Big Damo. I'll give that a try. 4 days down 10 to go lol.

First post from Rob from Outer East Melbourne

Hi Rob Congratulations on getting your band done. You're one step ahead of me. I was supposed to be done on 17th Nov however because I'm going public an emergency came up and my surgery is now scheduled for 8th Dec. I agree not good timing with Christmas etc but this is usually a time when I put on weight so that's one positive. My other dilemma was that i was originally told I didn't need to do pre op diet cos my BMI is around 35. He has now changed his mind and I start it on Monday (not looking forward to the next 2 weeks). I'm in Melbourne too so if you'd like to keep in contact for mutual support let me know. Lisa

    Post op diet help please

Hi everyone I'm being banded on 17th Nov. I'm guessing I'll need to do some shopping before I go to hospital but I have no idea what I'll be eating. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

    Post op diet help please

Is it the carbs that bulk up the liver? I thought it was fat content for some reason. I wish my surgeon allowed protein only - that I could manage but i'm not looking forward to the shakes. I'll buy the bars and soups as well to try

    Sleep apnea complications

Hi I have severe sleep anpnea too (100 times per hour). My surgery is scheduled for the 8th Dec and the only thing I have been told is to ensure I have my CPAP with me at the hospital. I am hoping this surgery will fix the sleep apnea...good luck

    Post op diet help please

Hi Caz My surgery got postponed until the 8th and although i was originally told I didn't need to do pre - op I do so that starts in a week. I'm really not looking forward to it. How are you going with it?
  19. My dietician (who works with my surgeon) has told me its ok to have a glass or 2 of red wine once a week but I didn't ask how long after surgery.

    Op postponed - so disappointed

I'm feeling much better about it all now. Apparently not doing the pre op diet decreases the ability to have key hole surgery. I'd hate to wake up and find I had to be completely cut open. So I'll count down the sleeps until the 8th and get through the horrible pre op diet
  21. Hi Everyone I went to my pre op appointment today, had my blood test all went well and then I got a phone call late this afternoon to say my surgery for Monday had to be cancelled as an emergency has come up. I'm so disappointed - I had just started to get prepared for everything. It's now scheduled for the 8th Dec which is a really bad time for me to take time off work. I was also hoping I'd be on solids for Christmas - not going to happen now. To top it off I had been told that I didn't need to do the pre-op diet and now it seems my specialist has changed his mind and I need to do it for the next 3 weeks. No longer a november bandster
  22. thinkingslim70

    Ah! I messed up!

I wouldn't have thought one meal would be a problem either but I do think its best to check. When I first saw my specialist 2 years ago I was told I didn't need to do pre op diet because of my BMI (35). Now he has changed his mind about this because he found keyhole surgery wasn't possible when the liver was too fatty and some patients had to be opened up completely. I would rather wait a little longer for surgery than have that happen so better to be safe and check. I am not looking forward to the pre op diet at all. I think I will feel exactly the same as you but I'm sure we can get through this - good luck
  23. thinkingslim70

    Crazy!

Miss Lissa that is fantastic! Well done! I have one week left before I have to start my pre op but i hope I do as well as you have done!

    Any December '08 Bandsters?

It was supposed to be Monday. My surgeon has had an emergency who needs the surgery more than i do. I understand these things happen but i'm still disappointed.
