I am sure if they were ordered by a head of state, they would be.

Nursing Home Abuse
When I was in high school, I was in a class where we could get clinical experience in health care settings. One of the places I was at was a local nursing home. It was absolutely horrible. The workers there were generally not very educated and obviously unhappy working there. I can remember a couple times that I was just horrified by the way the patients were treated. One of the patients was a relatively young man that had had a stroke. They had to give him laxatives regularly because he couldn't have a BM on his own. They wouldn't put him in adult daipers, so they would literally let him crap all over his bed. Every time they gave him a laxative, that was what would happen. They would drag him out of bed and put him in a shower chair and roll him down the hallway to the shower room. They would put a gown over his front, but his backside was in full view, and there would literally be feces dropping on the floor as they rolled to the shower room. The other places I went to weren't bad. I spent part of the semester in the emergency room and part at the cancer center. The nursing home was by far the worst, and it was what made me change my mind about going into health care.

Called insurance company today
They said that they weren't finished with the pre-certification yet. I am starting to get really frustrated now. I am on a deadline for this surgery. If I can't get it done in early March, I will have to wait until May. I have already lost weeks because of problems with getting all my info to the surgeon's office and problems getting my info from the surgeon's office to insurance (found out last Wednesday that insurance had never gotten my info - the fax number the surgeon's office used was old - 2 week delay).

Anti-Semitism In France!
Okay... When this thread first started, you implied that atheists were ignorant and uneducated. That isn't respect. And to be honest, your responses to people challenging you over it came across as mocking. You've told some of the Christians here that they didn't know what they were talking about and that they weren't good Christians. You've called us desparate and vultures, you've implied that no one knows as much as you about Christianity and its values, you've used patronizing language, you've called people dishonest, you've called others "spiritually blind", you've implied that atheists are as bad as thieves, liars, murderers, and bigots, you've compared us to Sodomites, you've compared us to roaches (crawling out of the woodwork). Shall I continue?

Anti-Semitism In France!
Ron, saying you respect the beliefs of others isn't the same thing as showing that respect. Yes, you have said that you respect our beliefs, but you haven't shown that respect.

LBT was also down for a few minutes. Some people may not have checked the thread again.

No one has asked you to keep your faith to yourself. We would just like you to show a little respect to us and our faith systems (or lack thereof).

Anti-Semitism In France!
I don't, and I don't think most of the people here do, either. Criticizing how a person tries to spread his or her beliefs isn't the same as attacking the belief system. Obviously, as an atheist, I don't think Christianity is valid. But that wasn't a conclusion I came to because of the actions of Christians. And I think we can debate on who is or isn't a Whosit. What person one may consider as subscribing to the tenets of Whositism, person two may consider to be going beyond those tenets. Of course, person two would be considered to be people who aren't living up to those tenets by person one.

Well, I think you have to admit that most fanatics are fundamentalists. I think people do have a greater chance of being a fanatic if they are a fundamentalist, but I also think you have to take it on a person by person basis. ETA: Religious fanatics, that is.

Anti-Semitism In France!
I'll be honest, I think religion is the root of a lot of the evil in the world. Does that mean that I think that every person that practices religion is bad? No, it doesn't. But I do think that a lot of people that consider themselves "good Christians", "good Jews", "good Muslims", or "good Whosits" do a lot of bad things in the name of their higher power. Saying, "Well, they obviously weren't good Whosits" doesn't matter. You wouldn't be a good Whosit to them.

Anti-Semitism In France!
I'll speak up. I don't think you are a fanatic. Fundamentalist, yes. Fanatic? No. I think you are a highly educated woman. I definitely don't agree with a lot of your beliefs, but you aren't a fanatic.

Anti-Semitism In France!
Well, guess what! You HAVE said (or at least implied) disparaging things about Atheists. That was what started this whole thing, or do you not remember?

Anti-Semitism In France!
If you hadn't noticed, I haven't posted in this thread in a few days. And if you didn't remember my posts, I specifically said that I couldn't care less that you were a Christian, because it wasn't your religion I was criticizing.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I kind of like seeing Ron get what he's giving. That's my only excuse. Immature? Probably. But deserved? You betcha.

Banded 11/22/06 - Lost so far 23 lbs
I don't want you to take this the wrong way, because I really mean well. That said, if you don't start eating right, no fill in the world will help you. You can always find a way to cheat the band. You could try positive reinforcement to keep yourself away from the fast food. Whenever you get a craving for fast food, put the money you would have spent on it into a jar. Eventually, you will have a lot of money saved up and you can do something fun, like take a trip or go on a shopping spree for new outfits that fit the slimmer you.

Argh!!!
Call your insurance tomorrow and tell them that you have a date already, and that you need to know immediately whether you are approved or not.

MAC or PC
To be honest, I have hated Macs since school. I know they are supposed to be easier to use, but to me, everything is counter-intuitive. Even with all the Windows problems, I prefer my Sony Vaio. Although, I have given up on IE. I use Mozilla Firefox for all my internet surfing, and the majority of the problems I saw with IE are gone.

Major gripe
What is with people saying that comments are welcome and then turning into brats (not the word I want, but nicer than what I would have said) when the comments aren't what they wanted? If you only want complimentary comments, say so in your original post. Don't tell us that "all comments are welcome" and then go off when you get comments that, although they are honest, aren't in the range of "Oh you poor baby, you are always right and they are always wrong! You are so picked upon!"
-
When will it stop?
If you didn't want comments, you shouldn't have said they were welcome. No offense, but if your attitude in your last post is any guide, you might not have come across as nice and joking as you thought you did, when you talked to the life guard. We get what you went through because we've all gone through it. We're all considered "the fat girls". But seriously, you DID set yourself up. I definitely understand wanting people to stop treating you like crap. Nothing excuses the ligeguard from what he did. But you also have to stop opening the door and not expecting people to walk through it.

The (Living) Death Penalty
I personally think that a much more fitting punishment would be for the convicted person to be confined to a small cell 23 hours/day for the rest of their life. No TV, no radio, minimal visitation and contact with the outside world, and no luxuries.

anyone heard of this? (port related)
I would think about seeing a different plastic surgeon, to be honest. This one doesn't seem like he knows what he is talking about.

The Biblical Case for Pro-Choice & Stem Cell Research
To be honest, I don't understand how they could be misleading to someone who does more than just glance at the pictures. I think any information given out can be misleading to certain people. For example, with the photos I posted above, the embryos are similar at that stage, but everyone realizes that a cat and a human are entirely different organisms. And, as was stated in the article I posted, About the gill slits: ETA: I need to go to bed. Darn you, Gadgetlady, for having the gall to have an interesting debate!:speechles:notagree
