    Neuropathy Numbness

Thank You very much for your reply. How much B1 do you take ? and how long Did you have the numbness before you started taking the B1? Is the B1 you take in pill form? Sorry for so many questions you are the first to respond that has had the problem and has been treated for it. How long did you take the B1 until you started feeling relief from the numbness. My leg muscles are really starting to disappear? Did you also do physical therapy? Once again Thank You for your response !!!
  4. Has anyone had numbness or neurological complications from their gastric sleeve? I have numbness mostly from the chest down but sometimes everywhere including my head and face. I am pretty much on a 3 month waiting list to see a neurologist where I live. I went to see one where my surgery was preformed but he came up with nothing. My surgeon acts like he never heard of this yet I can read about this complication. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I read thst this can happen from vitamin deficiency and when I first got out of the hospital I didn't take good vitamins and I threw up all the time. I need help but don't know where to get it. My surgeon was no help.

    Neuropathy Numbness

Thank You. I have seen one Neurologist and am waiting to see another. The first one didn't come up with anything. I asked him many questions about neuropathy and bariatric surgery he didn't really answer any of them. I asked if he had experience with working with neuropathy caused from Bariatric surgery and he walked out of my hospital room. He was very condescending and rude. I am hoping to get a second opinion but have to wait months to see another neurologist where I live. My surgeon first referred me to the neurologist because he said my symptoms have nothing to do with my surgery,( Yet ive been able to read about neuropathy associated with batiatric surgery,) Which I don't believe because I did not have any of my current physical problems prior to surgery.

    Neuropathy Numbness

I've had no medical problems or conditions prior to my surgery. The numbness in from my body is pretty much from my chest down. Although it does sometime reach my head. I've read that vitamin difficiency can cause several neurological problems in Bariatric patients, although I've never met anyone who has had this so that is why I've been asking on here. I've read that these neurological problems can be permenant. So I am hoping to hear from anyone that has had this happen. Thank You for your reply.
  7. Has anyone experiences leg or body numbness after the surgery? I have been having this horrible problem. Did you see a neurologist? How was this condition treated?
  8. I have Numbness in my body after gastric sleeve. My surgeon acts like he is baffled but I have found many medical journals referring to this complication. I am 3 months out and had vomiting and weakness. I couldn't hold down even vitamins. Then I called my surgeon. There are no Bariatric surgeons where I li e so I had to travel the 6 hours to where my surgeon is. I was admitted for almost 2 weeks and given heparin shots and fluids. I got better with holding fluids down but the leg numbness started. I was realeased and went home. The numbness in my legs got worse. I bought a walker to walk. But still fell quite a few times. It got really bad. I called my surgeon he said I needed to see a neurologist. There is a 3 month wait to see one in my county. My surgeon told me to go back to the hospital where I got my surgery. Once I did the neurologist did a bunch of tests but said he came up with nothing. I never had any of these problems prior to surgery. I asked the neurosurgeon several questions. He refused to answer some of them and left the room and never came back before I was released. He basically said he didn't find anything out from the test. Some of the questions that I asked where 1) if I recently came into compliance with vitamin intake. Would it show that I didn't Have vitamin difiecency. He said no. I also asked since I wasn't quite 3 months out would it be too early to diagnose certain neurological illness. He also answered no to this. I asked other questions some he didn't even answer. The whole conversation was very awkward. I left after this conversation. Upon returning home I got severe headaches from my spinal tap/ Lumbar puncture. So I got no answers from my surgeon and the neurosurgeon and I am in even more pain now. My numbness is getting worse. And I get headaches from the lumbar puncture when I sit up. I am not impressed with my surgeon or the neurosurgeon that I just saw. But I know if I go to the ER where I live there is nothing they can do for me since last time they gave me a reffferal. I honestly feel like I am going to die but there is nothing I can do. I am also worried about permenant damadge. Nobody can help me yet my symptoms keep worsening. Has anyone out there had neurological damadge from gastric sleeve? To me it seems like my surgeon is afraid of something like malpractice. He makes no connection with my surgery and these symptoms yet I can read medical articles about vitamin deficiency and neurological disorders. I would like to hear from anyone who has gone through this.
  9. Does or has anyone else had the following problems? I was sleeved May 11th and I am still having a considerable amount of pain. I generally have a high pain threshold but have never had surgery before. I am still on pain meds. And muscle relaxers. ,y surgeon will only give me flexeril and I do not take them often because the literally knock me out for about 16 hours. I hate them. I also am having a hard time getting my water in. I have a constant dry mouth and my skin is chalky and withered. I cannot stand the taste of protein drinks and am having an even harder time getting those down. I am lucky to get one down. I have tried many flavor and types, including unflavored, whey , isolates , plant protein , hemp , spirulina etc. They all taste horrible and my body refuses to drink them. I do not like artificial colors or flavors. So I drink apple juice with water and ice. Ice seems to be my favorite snack. I hated ice before. I feel really tired all the time and haven't ate anything for over a month counting my pre-op diet. I am down 30 pounds so far. I started at 250 and I am 39. I was in good health before the surgery. My surgeon has me on a puréed diet. But I eat nothing because if I do then I will not eat my protein shake at all because I am full I get full off of 2 spoons full of anything. I tried not drinking water or anything until I got my protein in but that only worked for 1 day and then I started to dehydrate again. Any helpful tips or advise you can give will be appreciated.
  10. I will be getting surgery on May 11th. I get pretty excited every time I look at my fat belly and think about it shrinking. I have lost a huge amount of weight in the past and kind of know what to expect with baggy skin, hair loss, etc. but I gained it back and am looking forward to a more permanent solution.
  11. I personally did not feel the need to tell my work anything other than I will be out for medical reasons, It is none of their business. I had my doctor fill out my paper work for FMLA and your doctor doesn't legally have to state the actual reason you need leave other than it is for medical reasons.
  12. A LCSW, Licensed Clinical Social Worker can do it. They are often times employed as therapists or counselors and are social workers. Most insurances require a licensed professional to do the evaluation . An LCSW employed as a counselor did my psych evaluation.
