  1. Well, I had tried all the diets and could only manage to stay on them for a week, two if I was lucky...then what little I lost would come back on then some. I was so tired of being fat and went to see a dietician. I was able to stay on the diet she put me on for 3 days, yes 3 days. I was so discouraged and disappointed in myself. I knew something had to change. I had talked to my husband about the lap-band before, and after talking to a family member I brought it up to him again and this time he gave me the go ahead. I am so happy to have my band and my new life....no looking back now.
  2. I know compliments for me can be hard also. I always feel the need to explain or point out what is still wrong with me. However, I saw my SIL over Christmas, and she told me that I looked good and I simply said "Thank You" and that was it, that was enough. I did not go into explaining things and it felt great. Of course there will always be those that go on to ask questions of you, then you just do what makes you comfortable. Congrats on the weight loss.

  4. Could I have lost almost 60 pounds without my band? Honestly, I could have . . . but I know I WOULDN'T have. Well stated, San Diego. I can't tell you how many times I lost a few pounds and gained it back then some. You all know what I'm talking about. With the band I have done nothing but go down, and there is no way in H_ll, I'm letting myself, emphasis on MYSELF put it back on.

I had my lap-band procedure on June 19th 2008. I was at my witts end trying to lose weight only to turn around and put it right back on again. I started my weightloss journey weighing in at 240 pounds. I feel like I need to say weighing in at a hefty 240 pounds from the red cornor is Lucy......... This past year, 2008 was a stressfull year for me. I lost my mom January 29th 2008. She was 61 years old and I was 35 with a 3 year old and a 1 year old. It was devastating and still is. Then I looked into the lap-band procedure after talking to one of my aunts. Since I was self-pay everything started falling into place very fast...faster than I had time to adjust to it myself. Seriously, it was only a month from the time I started the process until I had the surgery. I did not have time to wrap my head around it and worried that I was not doing the right thing. But I had prayed about and everything was falling into place, so I went for it and I'm thankful that I did. Then I changed jobs. I had wanted to go back to teaching public school for sometime. So once again, I prayed about it and God sent me right were he wanted me and I am very happy. When we follow God's plan for us, life can be great. So here I am 36 years old, coming up on the anniversary of my mom's passing with my now 4 year old and 2 year old. We made it through Christmas, yes it was tough at times. At one point I held a whole chocolate pie in my hands and thought...boy if I could eat you, you would be mine. Luckly, thanks to my band I only had one piece. Well, I am doing well, my dad and the rest of my family is doing pretty well and life goes on. I am planning on making the best of it. I have lost nearly 40 pounds and love it. I do feel as though I need another fill. So I will check into that. Good luck fellow bandsters. Lucy

  7. Kevin, I had to laugh as well because my husband was looking over my shoulder reading some post the other night and said "banded" who talks like that, what are ya'll a bunch of cattle....of course he meant that in a lovingly way. Hey, I am from the great state of Arkansas as well. Who did your surgery? My Doctor is Dr. Luttrell, I really like him. I e-mailed his office today, because I think I am needing another fill myself. So do tell...how much have you lost? Do you love your band? I love mine and I am greatful for the chance to change my life. Keep in touch,
  8. Jennifer, congrats on the band. I have found that I have to slow down and chew my food really good or I have problems. Good Luck,
  9. Well, I think it is great that your daughter has you in the boat as her, if you know what I mean. At least you can understand each other and offer support. Good luck to both of you and try not to compare yourselves to each other. Sounds like you both will do great.
  10. I did not feel restriction untill my 3rd fill. It is different for everyone. Probably the reason your muffin came back up is because (1) it was morning time and (2) it was a muffin..to dense. I cannot eat anything untill about 10 or 11 in the morning after my band wakes up. Good luck to you, Lucy
  11. Yes, it takes a while to get your feet back under you. I know it did for me. I was up and and around, and did very well after my surgery. I went back to work thinking all was good, but after a few hours felt totally drained so I went home and to bed. It took me a good two weeks to feel normal agian. Except for that darn shoulder pain...but it finally passed. lucy
  12. Hey, good luck girls. I wish you the best and you will love your band and new life. Lucy
  13. I have to agree that getting the band was the best decision I ever made. I had my surgery in June 2008 and have lost 40 pounds. I love my band. When I do eat to fast or do not chew my food well, then yes it will come back up...but it is not that bad. It is not like throwing up, it just pops back out, kind of hard to explain. Anyway, the band is a great tool for me, it let's me be in control of my eating for the first time in a loooong time. Lucy
  14. I agree with Mimi. Eat a steak and drink a glass of orange juice with it. Red meat and Vit C can do wonders for increasing your Iron. Lucy
  15. I just had a Bison steak the other night. I found it at Wal-Mart next to the regular steaks. They also had ground bison. My husband cooked it on the grill for me and I could not tell the difference between it and a beef steak. Lucy
  16. I would not have liked it either. As a mom I would have found this unacceptable. JMO. Lucy:smile2:
  17. For me, I think the biggest thing is the way I view food. I used to obsess about food and stuff my face like there was never going to be anymore. Now when I see my someone with a huge plate of food, I think omg...how can you eat that much! Funny thing is, I could have ate that much and more with no problem before the band. What's great is my portion size has changed not only in my tummy but in my head as well:smile2: Lucy
  18. Hang in there it will get better. I eat a healthy diet with plenty of fruits, veggies, lean protiens and whole grains. I don't even miss bread anymore. I do eat brown rice and sweet potoatoes, these are very filling and healthy. I tend to focus on natual and healthy foods. I see this as MY chance to change my lifestyle  Lucy
  19. I was so tired of being sick and tired and fat. I made an appointment with a Registered Dietican, I needed some help. I followed the diet she put me for a total of 1 1/2 days. I was disgusted with myself that I could not follow a proper eating plan. I then spoke to one of my aunts who told me she had the lap band done and had lost 30 pounds. I talked to my husband about it, once again and this time he agreed. I have never looked back I'm so glad I did it.
  20. Oh my gosh! The left shoulde pain was awful. It was the only thing that bothered me about the surgery. It lasted for about 2 months and I have been fine for the last 4 months. The nurse told me it was from where they blowed my diagphram up with air during the procedure. I hated it!! But I would do it all over again. I love my lap band and do not regret it at all.
  21. This was also discussed during my pysch evaluation. She mentioned all those things and shopping also. To be honest with you, no sort of addictive behavior has crossed my mind or crept into my life. I had the surgery on June 19th 2008 and I can tell you that Life is Great!! I am happy and lead a totally normal life. Wishing you the best! lucy
  22. Well, Hello from Arkansas. I also just registered to use the site. I was banded (that just sounds wierd) on June 19th 2008. I have lost 25 pounds. I had my 3rd fill on October 8th, and boy let me tell you, that was the one that did it for me...I have hit my sweet spot. So anyway, we will see how it goes from here. Everything has been going great. Good luck to you Lucy
