  1. My insurance has changed and I have to change providers and begin working with a new hospital system and bariatric program. I was dismayed when I called to make a follow up appointment with the new doctors and was informed that there is a $500 program fee to even see a provider (this is not including the doctor visit, which is covered by my insurance). I cannot believe this is even acceptable - if I had diabetes and switched providers they would not charge me up front to cover administrative costs!!! The program manager told me this was common among bariatric programs to charge patients who have switched from other systems. I was wondering if anyone else has heard this and if you could provide me with details? I hate to think that it is discrimination or even a means to weed out those who are unable to afford an upfront fee. Thanks!
  2. I have to take antibiotics regularly and sometimes get yeast infections as a result. Its miserable. I take probiotics regularly, wear cotton panties, and work on keeping my immune system strong but sometimes I still develop a yeast infection. I've learned that the one day treatments do not work at all of me, also - the treatments in ovule form are too harsh and do not seem to work 100%. I prefer the messier but more effective cream with the 3 day treatment. The antifungal pill helps, but isn't always 100%.. you may wish to try that combined with the 3-day treatment. If it is chronic and doesn't seem to always clear up, this is what my doctor recommended a few years ago. Take the antifungal pill and start the 7-day cream treatment regiment. After you have finished the 7-day treatment, another antifungal pill. This should really "knock it out of your system." In the mean time, drink lots of fluid and get lots of rest - many say that the dying off yeast can be hard on your system. You might want to check out some of the books in the "Yeast Connection" series to see what they recommend if it continues to be chronic.

    Single and struggling...

    Daina, I certainly understand how you feel. I started seeing a therapist as part of my preparation for my surgery because I knew I had to change more than just my eating habits, I had to change how I saw myself, dealt with stress, and just plain old related to the world (and myself). I am still continuing to go regularly because that continues to change. Its been difficult "facing my demons" but it has been well worth looking at my life and realizing that taking care of myself is and will always be a priority. The hardest part has been allowing myself to actually FEEL my feelings... instead of deny them or hide with food... I was so afraid of feeling overwhelmed or lonely or helpless or whatever it was I was feeling that day. Stay focused on what is important, you and your emotional and physical health. Keeping sight of that and making sure you are tending to your own needs should help you transition through difficult times. And yes, dating kind of sucks sometimes. Its so hard to be vulnerable - but the alternative is unimaginable, so vulnerable I will try and be!
  4. I was banded 10/17 and am feeling (and looking) pretty well healed except for the port area... It aches quite a bit and I feel a slight pull when I move or lean in that direction. I haven't seen anyone mention lingering aches at the port site, so wanted to hear if anyone is experiencing that as well??? Thanks!

    Port Pain??

    I am glad to know I am not alone! When I told the surgeon I was still having pain and reluctant to exercise, he told me it was "mind over matter Lesly." Whatever Doc!! I'd like to think I am a pretty tough cookie, but this recovery seems to be taking longer than I had anticipated.

    Losing weight while already depressed

    I'm really sorry you are having such a rough time. It sounds overwhelming! So much change, good and bad, can be stressful. While it sounds trite, can try to have faith that things will work out for the best and give yourself time to process everything that is going on? Also, there is no shame in seeing a counselor (if you can or are not already) to talk about stress management and depression. It can be so helpful to talk to someone and for me, it helps to work through some issues and helps me keep perspective. Keep your chin up!!

    I wear minis (not super minis... but above the knee for sure) with tights all the time... and I am only five two and look darn cute in them if I do say so myself!

    Anyone else lethargic?

    You are not alone! I was banded 10/17 and have been feeling especially tired the past few days. I think a lot of it has to do with resuming normal activities after lying low for 2 weeks. Here's to hoping we both get more spring in our step soon!
  9. Wow! I cannot imagine returning after 3-5 days. I took 2 weeks off and ended up coming back a few days early (today, actually) for 1/2 days. I have a desk job, but it is demanding with lots of stress and I wanted to be sure I was fully recovered and rested (both physically and mentally) before I returned to the rat race. I still have some bruising and pain in the port area, which makes sitting at my desk and leaning forward to type a little painful. My advice: Listen to your body and make sure you give yourself adequate time to fully recover physically. If you take 2 weeks but end up going back in less time all the better.
  10. Hello all - I've been a regular lurker for several months, but since I received my band a little over a week ago I thought it was about time I made my introductions! I'm 35, single, have a demanding job...though more importantly have a strong network of supportive friends and family (I am eternally thankful). Hoping to continue to use LBT as a source of information/inspiration and to connect with other "bandsters" as I continue on my personal journey. Lesly
  11. Hi Renee - I was on the fence for a long time, so I did a lot of reading and information gathering. I am feeling a little better each day - not as good as I hoped I would be by day 8 but I think I was a bit over optimistic. Still a little sore and tired, but making progress. You?
  12. Laurigee - First, thanks so much for saying hello. It is inspiring to hear from someone who is doing so well with the band - I appreciate the tips as well. I'm in Madison and have been working with Dean Health's Weight Management program here. My surgeon is Dr. Sunby and the whole experience with the St. Mary's outpatient clinic was excellent.
