    I have sooooo many questions?

Ok- here goes. I think lapband will be good for you, expeciallly if you dont have any co-morbidity issues, like diabetes, or high blood pressure. I was banded on Oct 16th and have lsot 20 lbs so far. When you get banded, your surgeon may or may not fill your band with a little saline. Saline is simply a salt water solution. Dont listen to any assholes telling you it silicone. It is definitely not- ask your doctor and he will tell you also. Your band is around your stomach, has a thin tube on it that has what is called a port at the end. The port is implanted under your skin. After about six weks after surgery, your surgeon will find the port under your skin, stick a thin needle in(you only feel a little prick), and injects SALINE into it and that travels down into your band to tighten it so you get full faster. If you need to eat more or if your band is too tight, they do the same thing, only they daw out the saline so it becomes looser. Please dont let anyone discourage you with their nonsense and crap that they know nothing about. I was scared for nothing. I feel great, my pants get looser everyday, and my self-esteem has gone thru the roof. I'm sure you have friends and family that are concerned, but you have to make sure who is concerned, and who just wants you to stay fat and remain their eating partner. Find a support system and steer clear of any negative influences. This is for you, no one else. You go for it, Girl! You will be glad you did!

    Sweling after surgery!!!

I had that too. I noticed it more because my stomach is not where I carry my weight. I'm bottom -heavy. I had my surgery Oct 16th, but my stomach still looks a little swollen. Probably because of my port area still healng. It will go down, dont worry
  3. Let me tell you. I had my surgery on oct16 and felt the same way. The back and shoulder pain is gas, believe it or not. That will go away eventually. The feeling you have in your chest or stomach is normal and that goes away when your stomach starts to heal from the surgery. As the weeks pass, you will feel more hungry. In my case, my doctor hasnt filled my band yet, so I'm getting hungrier, but I'm trying to fight it intil I get filled on Dec 3rd. I have lost 20 lbs so far, feel back to normal and cant wait till I get a fill to feel this so-called "restriction". But, right after surgey and the few weeks following, I felt like OMG, what did I do to myself! But, as my clothes started getting looser and every week I was losing weight, I felt so much better. I am now able to fit into jeans that have been in my closet for about two years. I just cant wait to get down to 50 lbs lost where there is a real difference in how I look, but I feel so muche better now and so will you. Good luck. You will soon be where I'm at asnd giivng advice to others about your experience. Rock on!
  4. Bring chapstick with you to the hospital and a pillow for the ride home in the car for the seatbelt. I ate tomato soup, Miso soup, Wonton soup w/o the wontons.
  5. Take Biotin and zinc together. I just got a two for one deal at CVS- I bought Natures' Bounty high potency Biotin 1000 mcg. What it does is promotie carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism and helps promote healthy skin and hair. I read that right off the bottle.

    How much can I lose?

I just got lapband on oct 16 and weigh the same as you. I dont think you should get bypass. I;ve lost 17 lbs so far in 3 weeks. You lose 50% of you weight in the first year and then it slows down a little, but you will lose it all. Look at everyon'es stories. If you dont have a co-morbidity issues like Diabetes or other things, go for lapband. Why cut you open, re-route intestines, and lose hair? Cause, let me tell you. YOU WILL LOSE HAIR. I have been to support groups and because you lose so fast, its a shock to your body. It takes longer to recover and there is no turning back with that. Think long and hard before you do that.
  13. Hi, Jazzy. I dont know how much you weigh, but I weighed 258 on my surgery date of Oct 16th and since then, 3-1/2 weeks later, I have lost 17 lbs. Of course, that will slow down as I get to eat more normal foods. So if you weigh around the same, you will probably lose that or more. Have a great thanksgiving(eat some for me)-lol. By the way, your'e not old. I'm 44 , but I still feel like I have the mind of a 25 year old. So, maybe in a year I will have the body too. Good luck on your surgery. Make sure you take some chapstick cause your gonna have dry lips and take a pillow for the ride home, cause the seatbelt might bother you. See ya! Lisa

    Any Long Islanders?

I had diarrhea when I cam ehome too. Its normal. I still have very loose stools and diarhhea, so dont worry. Youre only having liquids, right? I'm still on 2 shakes per day and one protein meal and I still go thru that. Make sure you drink your water so you dont get dehydrated. I had my surgery Oct.16. Good luck

    Really Crazy Question

No liquids 30 minutes before meals or 30 minutes after. I just got banded Oct 16, no fills yet, and I am wanting to eat since I am still on 2 shakes per day and one meal of protein. I'm just going on willpower right now. And, we all know how far our willpower lasts, not very long. My first fill is Dec.3rd and I'm hoping it gives me some fullness with a little bit of food. I'm so scared it wont work for me. As of Thanksgiving day, I will then have more food options, so maybe that will be better. So, hang in there and keep on keeping on
  16. I'm gonna have some turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, maybe a biscuit. I'm gonna try to eat like a normal person who doesnt overstuff herself. Its gonna be really hard, cause you know as well as I that eating normally is not what we do. I just had my band on Oct 16th and I will be 5 weeks out on Thanksgiving and I havent had a fill yet, so I can eat anything and not get sick yet. I have lost 15 lbs since surgery and dont want to gain anything back. I'm really scared of the holidays. Good luck to usl

    Can you breath deeply

I felt like that after surgery for about 3-4 days. I was able to breathe deeply, but it hurt like I had smoked 3 packs of cigarettes. Did they send you home with that little plastic breathing thing. Theone where the ball goes up when you inhale from the tube? That should strengthen your lungs, otherwise call the doctor.

I think my band may be somewhere in my chest....

You have to see a doctor, regardless of where he is. Having pain in your chest might not be associated to your band and it is imperative your call a doctor or visit an emergency room. Good luck.

    Creative Mushies

Dont blendrize it- just chew slowly and small bites. I was told I can also have Boars head ham, turkey and light cheese- I like Lacy Swiss- dont blenderize those either.

    Soft Moist Food Ideas

no pasta! egg salad, boars head ham, turkey, light cheese, hummuss, liverwurst, shrimp salad, tuna salad, lobster salad, imitation crabmeat, ricotta cheese, cottge cheese
  22. I was told chicken broth, tomato soup, wonton soup without the wontons, miso soup. Dont drink anything from straws I was told. You shouldnt be eating creamy soups because of the high calorie content. No clam chowder or bisque. See if Lipton makes instant soup that is creamy, but lowfat. I think they do. good luck

    Creative Mushies

I got my band on Oct 16th and after two weeks of liquids, I am now on "mushies" for the next two weeks and this is what I have been eating. I have lost 14 lbs so far. Help??

Why is the alcohol so important to you that you arent willing to give it up? You need to figure out if life is as important to you. The alcohol is consuming you as much as you are consuming IT.
