Where do you take water aerobics? Sounds like you have a lot of fun. I have been thinking about starting and now sounds like as good a time as any. Thanks. Shawn

I am not a scrapbooker but would like to be. Does that count? Maybe I can learn from the rest of you. Shawn
  3. I am hoping for some eating advice. I am required to travel extensively for my job. Can anyone tell me what I should eat when I am on the road and eating 3 meals a day from a restaurant? I want to be prepared to eat the right amount of calories and Protein while traveling so if anyone can offer some restaurant tips or food that travels well I would greatly appreciate it. I can be gone as long as a week at a time and fly so am limited what I can carry. Thanks. Shawn

You are correct. I often think that someone else is paying for this meal so.....I am working on that mentality. When you are restricted, can you eat salads with chicken or salmon? If you order a appetizer like beef carpacchio or ahi tunu or shrimp cocktail do you order a vegetable or a side salad? I also need to print out the list of food and its content -- calories, Protein, sugar, etc so I make sure I am eating the right amount of protein. I will invest in some whey protein powder and carry that with me for protein. Do you eat 3 meals and a couple of Snacks? Could I do a Protein shake for a snack if I know that I am not getting enough protein? Thanks for all your help.
  5. My lapband surgery was Wednesday, October 15 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. I had to be at the hospital at 6:00 a.m. I was taken to the pre-op room shortly thereafter. I got lots of personal attention from the nurse anesthetist and anesthesiologist while trying numerous times to insert my IV. Apparently I have child-like veins and neither the lap tech nor the nurse anesthetist could get the IV started. The anesthesiologist was very gentle and took his time and got it started the first time. They gave me something to relax and the next thing I know I was being wheeled to the OR joking with everyone around me. My nurse anesthetist and anesthesiologist were very good looking. My husband said I was flirting with them, but I blamed the medicine. I remember the OR room, I remember moving to the table, I remember the folks in the OR room talking and joking with me and then I remember waking up in recovery. I had one pain shot and one short for nausea. I was in recovery a little longer than normal because they had no rooms available. They let my husband come into recovery and I called my mother and my daughters to let them know I was okay. I arrived in my room around noon. I got out of bed and went to the bathroom around 12:30. Walked several laps of the hallway, ate broth, Jello and a popsicle at 5:30 and walked out of the hospital on my own two legs at 6:00 p.m. My experienced was so much better than I expected. Now I am looking for several experienced mentors to guide me toward success with the band.
  6. Hello all. I am 50 years old  and was banded Wednesday, October 15 at Riverside by Dr. Myers. I have not attended any support meetings yet because my approval happened within weeks of surgery. I am interested in meeting people from the Columbus, Ohio area that have similar struggles and interests. I am also interested in corresponding with others outside the Ohio area. Would love some experienced mentors. I have been married for 30 years, work full time, travel extensively and have two wonderful grown daughters, all of whom are very supportive. Thankfully neither of my girls have weight issues at this time. My goal is to lose 120 pounds.

What does your restriction feel like?

Is it normal that I don't feel like eating and when I do eat or drink I feel extremely, uncomfortably full? I was banded on Wednesday. I don't feel any pain just very uncomfortable when I eat or drink hardly anything. I just make a Protein shake and took about 4 swallops in 30 minutes and don't want any more. I also am not getting my Water in because I get the same "too full very uncomfortable feeling" after drinking water. I guess I am surprised because I know I have no restriction. I have never had surgery so maybe this is just my body trying to heal from surgery and the gas and moving my stomach around. I would appreciate any guidance or assistance. Thanks.

    Anyone else banded on 10/14/08?

Whenever I eat or drink anything I feel like I could throw up -- almost like I stuff myself and I only had cream of wheat or Soup. I hope this feeling will go away because it makes me not want to eat anything. I could have a Protein shake but I don't feel like eating it. I think tomorrow I will make a smoothie with fruit and protein and see how that goes down. I am sure this is just part of the healing process because I don't have any restriction and probably won't for about a month. Is there some reason you can't have a protein shake? It is liquid and has lots of protein. I definately am not getting enough protein and tomorrow I need to do better at that. :-) Overall I feel pretty good. I also am sore and it hurts to bend over and dry my feet after showering. I wake up every morning at 5:00 a.m. with a backache and get out of bed and switch to our media room chairs that lay flat and sleep until about 9:00. I have a support group meeting on Tuesday so that might answer some of my questions. Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio has them once a month. There is another support group that meets the second Saturday of every month at the food court (LOL) at a local mall. I plan to attend that next month as well. Where were you banded?

What does your restriction feel like?

I was banded on 10/15. I am eating full liquids and feel like I am going to throw up after eating or drinking. My understanding is that my band has nothing in it right now so I am unclear as to why I feel sick after eating or drinking too fast. I am eating Jello, popsicles, Soup, liquids like that. Other than that I feel great. If I could just not eat I would be fine. :-) Would love to hear an explanation from someone that has been through it! Good luck to you all and would love to keep track of you all since we are so close to the same banding date. We should go through the same things about the same time.

    Anyone else banded on 10/14/08?

Sarah: I was banded in Columbus on 10/15. I am doing quite well too. I was the first patient banded on that day and came home the same day. I was on a clear liquid diet the first couple of days. Now I am on a full liquid. However, I feel better when I don't eat. I'm not quite sure why but after I eat my stomach hurts. Even though I am eating cream of wheat or baby food anything and everything makes my stomach hurt. I know I need to eat and drink but even drinking hurts me as well. I wish someone could explain the "discomfort" after eating. SLC

Greetings to all: I was banded yesterday at Riverside Hospital by Dr. Myers. I was banded around 7:00 a.m. and left the hospital at 6:00 p.m. walking on my own two legs and not in a wheelchair. I am at the beginning of this journey looking forward to getting to know all of you and learning all I can from your experiences. Shrntsweet
  12. I am new to this site and scheduled for banding on Wednesday by Dr. Myers at Fresh Start. Is there a group specific to Ohio or to Columbus on this website? BTW, I am very nervous about the surgery and what will happen so any encouragement or "good" stories would be helpful. Thanks. Shawn
