My Bariatric Gripes: The Daily Annoyances Nobody Talks About! What's your gripe?
I had my mini-gastric bypass this past Friday. I didn’t begin having issues with the liquid diet or feeling hungry at the hospital until I got to my mom’s house yesterday and smelled her cooking (Pavlov’s dog conditioned response, if you know what I mean lol), but I recognized it immediately for what it was & quickly redirected my focus by going outside for a walk & some fresh air. Right now they are cooking, so I went outside to introduce myself to their German shepherd & gave her a treat. Now I went to a different part of the house where I can’t smell the food being cooked.

heavy stomach and needs to burp
This is normal, I’m 4 days post-op from the mini-gastric bypass & had the same issue immediately after surgery. I was told not to force it, and let it come out naturally from one end or the other. I’m not gonna lie, it’s painful and uncomfortable, but I promise it will get better as each day passes. I felt minimal pressure this morning and was able to pass more gas & feel alright now. I really only notice how heavy my stomach is when I’m lying down, flat on my back or sides, but using a bariatric stomach wrap seems to help. Especially if you have an apron belly like me.

I Had Mini gastric bypass 3 weeks ago, and the social worker I had to meet was VERY RUDE! & Depression :c
Hey Adam! I am sorry you were met with such an unsupportive & rude social worker. I know the feeling of being dismissed all too well, especially when you have genuine concerns, questions and/or pleas for help. I hope you are able to find your answers within this platform/forum. I’m 11 days away from having my mini gastric bypass overseas & I’m a nervous wreck over it. I don’t really have support I thought I had from one of my coworkers & my boss/the owner, but that’s a whole other story. I live alone and I worry about what it will be like when I get back from having surgery. I mean I’ll go back to being at work where I’m around people, but when I’m not at work I’m home alone. I can see becoming depressed.

Pre-Op Testing?
Hello lovelies 💕 I am traveling overseas to have a mini gastric bypass in November. The surgeon is asking that I have an echocardiogram, I reached out to my doctor here in the States to see about getting this done, but he thinks the surgeon is wanting an electrocardiogram. I had my mom confirm with the surgeon that he wants the echocardiogram, but my doctor here doesn’t think that is likely. Based on my research online it is the echocardiogram that is done to see how the heart is pumping blood? What type of pre-op testing is done or have you all had done? Answers are greatly appreciated 🙏

Different Methods of Gastric Bypass?
Hello all 🫶 I am currently working on getting a gastric bypass done overseas, and have been talking to the surgeon through my mom, he asked if I eat a lot of sweets. Apparently, there is a different method of gastric bypass for people that eat a lot of sweets? Is that even a thing? lol Are there different methods of doing gastric bypass? I did ask if the gastric bypass is reversible, just in case there are complications (may a higher power forbid it). I try not to drink my calories, and typically I don’t eat a lot of sweets. I’m a bread, meat and potatoes girl, but since learning I was diabetic in March of 2024 I have even been limiting bread & potatoes. I lowered my A1C from 11.3 to 5.8 and was 397 pounds and I’m down to 318.

Going overseas for gastric bypass surgery
Hi! Newbie here! My insurance will not cover my gastric bypass, so I am traveling outside of the US, overseas where I have family, to have the procedure. All the surgeon requires is pre-op bloodwork and for me to lose some weight prior to the surgery. I have started meeting with a therapist and she, along with a couple of friends that are post-op, suggested I find a support group to help with prepping for this major life change. I expressed some concern to my current PCP about not being fully prepared & he said typically all of the hoops you have to jump through here in the US are put in place by insurance companies. No doubt there is some truth to that, but it isn’t entirely true. I understand this surgery isn’t going to be a quick/easy fix and that I need to take steps towards healing emotionally, preparing mentally & physically, and working on portion control & movement/activities prior to surgery to ensure success. What are some of the things, or the one thing, you did to prepare that really helped you in your journey post op?
