It's finally my turn!!!
Way to go! You will be banded two days before me. Welcome, and congrats!

A change in perspective
I'd be honored, Mindy. Thanks!

someone help me during this trying time....!
Jacole, when possible, what if you go for a walk or do some other exercise or activity when you feel the stress hit? Not only do you not eat then, but you get moving a bit or get something done around the house or in the yard.

A change in perspective
I used to want to lose weight and look the same I did when I was in my 20s and had a hot body. Now I want: To see my clavicle, a rib or even a waistline again. I used to want to lose weight and be able to turn guys' heads again. Now I want: To be able to tie my shoes, walk upstairs, and (blush) have sex without difficulty. I used to want to lose weight and look good in a bikini again. Now I want: To not be staring diabetes in the face, not worry about high blood pressure, not have my knees, hips, and feet ache, and not see this fat person staring back at me from the mirror -- when I catch a fleeting glance, of course. I now simply want my health and quality of life back. I want to have pictures of me again (few taken in 15 years)! I want to shake the embarassment, the sadness, the self-contained lonliness because I don't want to (or can't) do some things with others. I used to want to look great again, but if my body looks halfway decent after my journey, I will take the blessing and look at it as icing on the cake. My vanity days are over. I just want my life back.

Going for the skinny jeans in South Carolina
Good for you, Aqua! I can hardly wait till I am wearing clothes that don't have an X in the size or a size that beings with a 1.

I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?
LOL, I can relate, Ginny. Though I have my date, I am technically still waiting for my approval. I did the psych eval on Thursday, and she should have the letter to my doctor's office by Monday. The doc's office says after insurance gets that, they should okay it within a day. I also worry, what if...

What are everyone's weight loss goals?
Maybe I should think of my weight in kiligrams. It sounds way nicer in those smaller numbers!

I am just so... OMG...
I never did see it as malicious... more like there is no filter between that pea brain and big mouth of hers.

What are everyone's weight loss goals?
I would love to lose half my weight -- 145 pounds. However, it's hard to tell what will be ideal for me at this age, so I'll deal with the numbers when I get there. In high school I was 120, so I don't think it's unrealistic to add 25 pounds or so to that number. If I luck out, I'll be a little less than 145.

I am just so... OMG...
Well, we have a pretty open office around here. It's probably closer than it should be where management is concerned, especially with her. She always likes to hear what's going on with people to the point where the lines are somewhat blurred, if that makes sense. I am sure I will say something to her at some point, but evil or not, I had my reason for not doing it right away. I need her to do something for me that may give me a chance to be seriously considered for her job when she leaves (somebody else is silently slated to get it, but I've been working SO hard to get extra education, etc.). As bad as it sounds, I needed to be sure she supplied some info to somebody before I pissed on her corn flakes, so to speak. And today I found out she did what I needed. Yes, it sounds maniuplative, and it somewhat is. If you knew the dynamic of this office, you'd understand my underhandedness. But I will certainly say something. Everybody there knows what she said, and they are all mortified and pissed.

I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?
Mine could probably stand to lose 20 pounds, but I was 140 when I met him and tried to keep up with him in eating and ate my way to 290.

We're getting banded the same day! As for prep, just check with your doc. They should help you to be sure.

I am just so... OMG...
And the day may come when I do say something. You're right about gossip -- look what Star Jones went through. People shouldn't have to feel like they need to explain if they don't want to.

I am just so... OMG...
Hehe, I like that. I'm surprised even HR HAS to have your surgeon's name. There are all SORTS of HIPPA rules these days! It's really none of their business. Funny thing about my boss, I know she's an alcoholic -- or at least has an issue with alcohol. And is at times very promiscuous. I could tell stories -- that SHE has shared, no less. The you-know-what in me wanted to ask if her alcohol problem was still making her loose and slutty.

I am just so... OMG...
Well, this is the third comment about my physique in two weeks -- two about getting tucks and/or lifts, and the one about the staples. She has also made flip comments about my new grandchild that were out of line as well.

I am just so... OMG...
Does your surgeon's name HAVE to appear on your paperwork?? I don't know why they would need to know! That, to me, violates the HIPPA rules completely! Can you ask your HR to black out your doctor's name before she gets a copy? That just sounds totally wrong.

I am just so... OMG...
I hadn't thought about that. Sad, really...

I am just so... OMG...
She was thinner a year ago. She has definitely put on about 30 pounds (though she is taller than me). I could sit on her head and squish it like a melon.

I am just so... OMG...
What would y'all think? I told my boss a couple weeks ago that I may be needing surgery (had a bunch of doctor's visits and was getting the "are you dying?" thing). I DO have a hiatal hernia, so I just mentioned that that's what I was having done. So yesterday I give her my leave request with my surgery date and she starts to ask about the surgery because she thinks SHE has one too. I don't really know how they do a straight hiatal hernia, so I told her they do it laproscopically so when I have stitches, etc., it won't raise eyebrows. Get this: She says, "While they're in there, maybe they can put in a few staples." I said, "What??" She said, "Well, if they're in there anyway, maybe they can put in a few staples." I just stand there... not saying anything. Now mind you, since she was made aware a couple weeks ago that I was having "a" surgery, she asked if I was going to get a nip and tuck while I was at it. Omg, how inappropriate IS that??? She won't be here much longer, but I am debating filing a complaint. It won't do anything, but omg, it's just so.... OMG! It's not like we have this bad relationship or anything where she would say this out of some resentment or anger towards me. She just seems not to have a filter between her brain and her mouth.

Weight Watchers
I_Said_NO, it's IMPERATIVE that you not guage your success by the scale alone. The fact that you say you are losing inches means you ARE losing. However, you are likely gaining muscle (a VERY good thing), which makes the scale not budge. When i used to diet in the past, I would keep a weight loss journal, but more importantly, I would keep a journal with inches lost. When I would have what I thought were plateaus where I lost no weight, I almost ALWAYS had lost inches. So in reality, it is NOT a plateau. You are simply increasing muscle which in the long run burns more fat. That's why guys lose so much quicker than us -- their muscle mass. Watching the scale may make you worry, freak, or slip. I too say to ditch it. Even WW doesn't require you to weigh in each week.

I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?
Had my psych eval to day. I think everything went well. She told me that barring any really bizarre results from my paper testing, I WILL be banded on November 21st! However, I think I will choose to call my new "birthday" YESvember.

Should I have my surgery or not?
More often than not I feel that fitness trainers way over-push people who are not ready for it, trying to get them to do things their body isn't ready for or simply can't do. And because they have a little schooling under their belts to be certified trainers, they think they know everything.

I feel so relieved
Aw, that's sweet. The food thing may be a double-edged sword with him. You see, hubby LOVES food. I don't mean like, I don't mean just loves to eat, he LOVES FOOD. He was fat as a youngster until he hit college, and I was thin until I hit my mid-20's (about a year after we met). Don't get me wrong, he could stand to lose about 20 pounds, but I went from 140 to what is now my highest, 290. Eating the same... and in many cases, I ate a lot less. When I dieted before, he took over the cooking because he liked it better than cleaning up. I did lose 70 pounds, but there were a few times I hit some somewhat major plateaus, only to find out he was adding wine to everything to add flavor! I got really mad about that because for my weight loss, that little additive was keeping me from losing. And as typically happens, that "little bit" would increase from a splash to a half cup or more! I know he supports me and wants me healthy. However, the day WILL come when he realizes he loses his "eating buddy." Before I just gave up because the temptation just got to be too great. He wouldn't feel like cooking, and that restaurant we love would call out really loud... So I guess we will have to see how this goes in the long run.

I feel so relieved
Well, I just told my husband about my decision to get the lap band surgery. I had not told anybody but my best friend a few weeks ago when I was going to the seminar because I knew she would just listen and not judge or try to convince me one way or the other. Hubby can tend to be a bit negative and always points out the bad, so I chose not to tell him until I had chosen because, frankly, this is about and for me. All he knew was that I was going to all these doctor appointments and knew I had something going on but didn't want to talk to him about it just yet. Until tonight. He was amazingly supportive and happy that out of all the WLS out there, I had chosen this one because it was not as drastic as so many others out there. I was so surprised that I started crying. He asked if I was sad about this, and I said no... just emotional. There's a part of me that is SO excited to begin this new journey, yet another little voice in my head said I failed or wasn't strong enough to do this myself. He shushed me and said that's not true at all... this is just a tool, and I will still have the work to do. I just need some help, and that's okay. He even asked, if it was okay with me, if he could go with me to meet with the nutritionist when that time comes because he does a lot of the cooking and wants to know what will be best for me. How fantastic is that? Wow.
