  1. I understand where you're coming from, but it is a little harsh. Some of these statements get to me also, while I am THRILLED about what I have lost, I really wanted it to be more. For many, the pre-op diet takes off 20 + pounds and even with education and research, they still can't help but expect more from the band. I lost without much work and know that if I put in more effort the real goal would be met. However, few people are really able to accept their responsiblity in having gained the weight and in having to make the right choices to loose the weight, The mental is a big part of this, that's why we have to do the evals and for some surpervised weight loss before surgery. This is the place to vent, be scared, ask for help and yes sometimes just whine. Only those on the path can really understand what we have to deal with daily. Let's just try to pump em up, or just not finish reading the posts that make your skin crawl.

  2. Congrats on the weight loss! After 50lbs, the only time I was warm was during a hot flash.:o I always have a light jacket in the car and usually am the only one in the house that thinks the AC needs to be turned off. Iron levels could be low, so you might get told to up the intake.

  3. I do very much so. I am one who forgets to eat and usually get in enough cals. at these times my weight just sits there. I vowed to eat and get in Protein this past weekend and loss 1.5 lbs. I don't work out, when I did the inches came off reall well. I am heading to gym tomorrow and hope that the weight will move off better. Good luck..Be sure to look at your measurements.

  4. This is unusal, my doc recently told me the band doesn't loosen after you have lost the fat that was under the band. Maybe you have replaced that with muscle as you work to tighten up. If you are able to get lunch and dinner in I don't think I would worry. Maybe the coffee can be replaced with tea, no Creamers and it's more "water like". Also, maybe yogurt in the AM for the Protein. If you can"t eat lunch, at least call the doc. Good luck.

  5. WOW!!!!! If I only had to walk across the street I would have been mad. There is never a reason for someone to be treated that way. I couldn't have left without speaking to her boss about the incident.

I think that many of the band folks have medical issues that can cause problems with weight loss, and it is usually the reason they need the band. I take BP meds that make me bloat, my anit cancer stuff makes me retain Fluid, have hot flashes and jacks up my sleep. The Zoloft takes my appitiet. It is crazy with trying to remember what to take before or after eating to be able to let the band work right. As a medical person she should have known that.

I am very sorry you had this experience, many folks don't get restiction until they are at 6+ so what is she talking about? I recently got to 5.5 and only have restriction on some foods on some days. Yeterday I couldn't eat fish, but today I could. She needs to be better supervised!

  6. I am very sorry that you weren't able to follow through on your plans, but it's OK. You should never do anything you aren't ready for. First I will tell you that you will NOT strave; yes there may be times that you are hungry but there are ways to deal with it. Your mouth isn't being sewn shut, so you will be able to eat, you might not eat everything you want to but you will still be able to enjoy food. I am very lucky, I can eat most everything I always have. The weight I have lost was in the early part of my journey when my committment was highest and I followed the rules and made the best choices. Right now I am making some adjustments to my eating habits to hopefully start things going again.

Almost a four hour wait is hard on the mind when you are faced with the unknown :( :( . Don't worry the opportunity is still out there, if you want it.

For me, things have been easy. As of last month I have 5.5cc in a 10cc band. I don't think I have restriction as I think most people mean it. I do get full from a lot less food than 3 yrs ago. Other people have had problems and we each are different so you can't determine what will happen with you based on someone else. I get stuck if I eat to quickly, if I overeat...meaning I ignored the sign that I was full. I get very uncomfortable or have a PB issue,.

I would do this again without hesitation! It has changed my life so much, I did this for my health but my self esteem JUMPED :Banane54:

I bought a dress in DEB and I never could go in there before. I don't mind going out, I don't run from cameras and my health is imporved,. I still need to drop about 30lbs to meet the suggested weight. I will be very happy to get off another 15 or so.

Don't feel bad about your decision, all of this has to be for you and about you. Hope I've helped and good luck.

  7. petuniap, thanks so much! This is one of the reasons I started this topic. I knew someone would reply with the information needed as you have. The other was because so many people b*tch about the band that it doesn't work. I know it does and I know that I wasn't doing what I needed to. My biggest problem, believe it or not is that I'm seldom hungry; so I don't eat and I'm not getting in enough calories. I need to really focus on getting food in. Wrong foods don't interest me (other than those dang creamers). Yesterday I only had about 900 cals and 50 g of Protein. This is about what I usually have, since I didn't track food at the start I'm not in the habit. I simply made an effort to eat the right food at the right times and I didn't have to think about it.

I am often angered by what gets posted by those who aren't finding the success they had hoped for. My life is about taking responsibility for the things I do. I want everyone who has taken on the expense and challenge of the band to succeed. Hopefully, this will help.

  8. This is not to slam anyone, but I really would like some input. I read here so many that say the band doesn't work, or that 20,30,or 40lbs have come off and now nothing. I realize that many of you have had problems with slippage or some other medial issue, so I'm not thinking of you,

I have been reflecting and I'm finding some greal gray areas for myself. I started to make my food changes the day of my seminar, I cut out sweet tea, sodas, starting taking smaller portions , no drink with food and soon started to feel bertter. And I was working hard to drink my Water. I choose the band because the bypass scared me, and I didn't like the look of those who had it.

I followed my own changes from Nov. until my 2 week pre op diet.in Feb. I was down 18lbs on that day. I was good about following the instructions and the weight keep coming off. I didn't exercise much, just watched what I ate. When I finally lost 63 lbs. and was in a size 12....I lost my mind. I got lazy and stopped following the rules. I lost my commitment to the program. I stopped loosing :( . Even knowing this I can't get on track.

I say these things because I don't think we are all as commited as we once were, we are not as honest with ourselves as we need to be. For me candy keeps wandering into my home, coffee creams are the devils inventtion and sugar has rentered through a back door. Still knowing this, I can't seem to shake things back in the right places.

I started this journey because I didn't want to be on a diet for life, and I don't feel I am. One of my problems is that even though I don't have ture restriction, I don't have a problem with hunger, I thought if I wasn't hungry I shouldn't eat...very wrong. I am stumped about how to fix where I am, I need to loose anthore 30-35lbs to be in the guidelines. I would like to loose about 15 to feel like I had a true result for my effor. I don't think doc will do a fill since I'm not hungry. I try to eat meat & veggies but it is usually only once a day. Yogurt and Protein Drinks to try to get the Protein in. My life schedule is strange and gym time never seems to come.

So, is it not working or am I doning something wrong.

  9. Don't get to overheated about this, not yet. I got my band on 3/9/09, and I have just found some restriction last month. I am stalled now for a lot of reasons, my big ones are: not enough Water, don't eat regularly..some days only once, to much coffee with Creamer and a real bad addiction to all things chocolate.

My early loss was really easy, I thought. But the real answere is that I stuck to the plan very closely. I got so happy over the loss that I got lazy and careless. I'm not saying that is the case for you. You might need to find some NSV to get past this. How are your measurements? With you working out the inches must be coming off and the clothes getting looser on you. How do you feel, at the very least you must be feeling better, looking better, clearer skin. It's there, just look for it in the mirror. Each doc gives different instructions and has different views.

Start getting that Water in, it will help. Track your food intake, I was told 65g of protein; no calorie guide that I remember just the 4oz per meal. Just check to see how close you are to the guidelines you were given. :)

  10. Pink, I have had maybe 5 fills (5.5cc); didn't really keep track. I can eat most everything, I now have the most restriction after the last fill about 4 weeks ago. popcorn, pancakes, chicken, beef & rice no problems. I however can't eat "reheated chinese". I had some sweet sour left over and one bite major action. I was in pain for almost an hour. I also can eat something for lunch that I can't eat for dinner or eat it fine on Tues. but Sat no go. It is not only different for everyone, but for me different meal to meal

  11. I would guess that you have had a follow up, if you did was this discussed? If not yet, you should see the doc soon. In the meantime try sipping hot tea in the A.M. I am tight in the morning and if I don't do this I have the feeling most of the day. Does doc still have you on liquids or that's all you can handle. If the later is the case you really need to contact the doc. Good Luck.

  12. If I don't stop my drinking at least 45 min. before a meal I can't get very much food in before I am full. I don't drink with the meal, and I don't restirct myself after. Usually, it is dinner and I want coffee after  . I use a straw with my Water, it keeps me from glupping it down. That has given me a few bad moments; it caused a bubble that had killer pain. I might be the only person who gets "stuck" on Water.

My current lack of weight loss is due mostly to the fact that I don't eat as I should. Most days it's one or two meals if I remember. I don't get hungry very often which is funny since I don't have much restriction. If I have to much on the plate it just dissappears :(

  13. 16lbs. is good. Now the bad news, the nurse is right on. Many don't feel restriction until the band is almost half full; there are others who never get a fill and just drop the weight. Don't worry about what is happening with someone else. Listen to your doctor and most importantly your body. My doctor puts me on liquids for 2 days, soft food for 2 and back to solids on the 5th day following a fill. I am one of the people who don't really have restriction, my last fill was about 3 weeks ago. I finally can feel a difference, the thing is hunger is not an issue for me in this journey. Water will be your friend, it is important to stay hydrated, but also flushes you and it helps to fight the hunger. Your body also needs it for healing. This process is more than just a few days on the sofa, there may not be pain, but you are still healing for a couple of monts. Focus on getting your portein in because it is filling, and important to the healing. eggs, yogurt =, I'm getting hooked on the greek yogurt, It's thicker and has more portein.are told to do 6 small meals, others 3 meals and 3 Snacks. Just remember if you are working out hard and daily you migt need to up you intake. You will need to be committed to the proess; eat the right foods at the righttime.. You will now when others start to set it. You will be over the top when you slide on a pair of pants that didn'fit 2 months ago. Work the program they gave you and you should be gfine My sleping pill is getting mr;

  14. STOP EATING! I never had that big of a fill but my doc requires liquids for 3 days and mushies for a couple. This is because you can get some swelling with a fill and this will give it time to go down. If you eat to soon, it becomes irritated and more swelling for longer. If you sip hot tea, Clear Liquids and Water over the weekend and don't feel better then you will need an unfill. Should there be pain or regurgitation, get to the ER. You must get in fluids because you don't want to become dehydrated.:(
