    First Fill this week

    16lbs. is good. Now the bad news, the nurse is right on. Many don't feel restriction until the band is almost half full; there are others who never get a fill and just drop the weight. Don't worry about what is happening with someone else. Listen to your doctor and most importantly your body. My doctor puts me on liquids for 2 days, soft food for 2 and back to solids on the 5th day following a fill. I am one of the people who don't really have restriction, my last fill was about 3 weeks ago. I finally can feel a difference, the thing is hunger is not an issue for me in this journey. Water will be your friend, it is important to stay hydrated, but also flushes you and it helps to fight the hunger. Your body also needs it for healing. This process is more than just a few days on the sofa, there may not be pain, but you are still healing for a couple of monts. Focus on getting your portein in because it is filling, and important to the healing. Eggs, yogurt =, I'm getting hooked on the greek yogurt, It's thicker and has more portein.are told to do 6 small meals, others 3 meals and 3 snacks. Just remember if you are working out hard and daily you migt need to up you intake. You will need to be committed to the proess; eat the right foods at the righttime.. You will now when others start to set it. You will be over the top when you slide on a pair of pants that didn'fit 2 months ago. Work the program they gave you and you should be gfine My sleping pill is getting mr;
  3. Looking forward to a wedding in a couple of weeks. Really my first special occasion since the band. LOVE the dress tha my daughter said was sexy!

Eating Sushi with the lap band

I haven't had any since my last fill, hmmmm now I want some. I kinda go real slow with the wrap. I have been able to enjoy it by using my fork to cut it up. Little messy but I still get my Sushi and I don't have a problem.

    Restriction or Stuck?

STOP EATING! I never had that big of a fill but my doc requires liquids for 3 days and mushies for a couple. This is because you can get some swelling with a fill and this will give it time to go down. If you eat to soon, it becomes irritated and more swelling for longer. If you sip hot tea, clear liquids and water over the weekend and don't feel better then you will need an unfill. Should there be pain or regurgitation, get to the ER. You must get in fluids because you don't want to become dehydrated.
  6. If you have meds, take them. Move around as much as possible, walk through the house, don't just sit or stay in bed. The gas can build up and it is killer. FOLLOW THE DOCS INSTRUCTIONS! Sip your water slowly, it takes a long time at first to get them down but your body needs it to heal. Congrats and good luck.
  7. Be very happy, but make sure to follow his instructions to the letter. This will give you time to heal and you should find good loss the first month or so. Congrats

    Are u ever not hungry

That's me, yeterday and today I look up it's 3:15 and all I had had was water and a cofffee. NOT GOOD, if I think of I eat because I know I need to . But if I am busy with chores, it doesn't happen.
  9. I have been using OLD AGE and CHEMO BRAIN, I'll just add this one when needed. Maybe that's why I forget to eat
  10. Brave girl, I get seasick just thinking about a ship. That added to a tight band, I might have taken over the ship as a crazy woman. Glad you had fun and you found a way to make things work.

    Day 6 and Starving

I wonder if the doc meant clear liquids for that time or full liquids. The two are not equal, clear liquids the days after a fill do NOTHING for me. I don't ever have a hunger problem, but clear is less satisfing for me than wate, they flow the same. I'm sure it's just mental but when I am on them I am disappointed, unhappy and cranky! I don't feel like I had anything, my saving grace is egg drop soup.

When do people notice the weight loss?

You are doing a great job! It depends on many things, but for me it was the way I lost. It seemed to come off my face first so folks saw it early. If your arms, legs or just your tummy are getting smaller first it might take a little longer for them to see. Until they do it is your private joy to get on the scale and keep seeing the number go down. Keep up the good work!
  13. First...not until it's time, not funny I know. Some docs put in a few cc at surgery and often those patiens will see early loss. The first few weeks are for healing. It is also about your body adjusting to the changes you've made. You have a forgein object in your body, you had major surgery and you are changing your lifestyle. This is a lot for the body and mind to adjust to. It isn't easy because if you have a pre op diet you followed, especially if it was most liquid; and then liquids after the surgery when you add back in the mushies and then solids, body gets all happy and grabs those calories. This is normal, it is most important that you follow the rules (yes think of them as rules) that you were given. Measure, don't drink with meals, don't do seconds, eat proteins first; I was told a min of 65 grams daily and 64 oz of calorie free liquids. It will take your full committment to this. Smile, work and it will come off when it's time for your body to start the process. Your body will change in different ways, not always the scale. Take your body measurements now and weekly and the inches might leave first.

    no milk products

I use whey protein in Van., orange (crystal lite type) mix, ice , water & litlle milk if you can. Blens and it's like an orange slush with what you need.
  16. :lol:This is a very good sign, you are off to a good start. Just follow the rules, don't over do it with anything as you heal.

    streesed

I got a fill on the 12th and I have been feeling really stressed as well. I'd not made a connection between the two. I have some life issues that have been going on for some time. Doc gave me Zoloft but I still needed something extra so I have some backup for the really bad days. DH was recently diaignosed as diabetic. Last week Tues we had an earthquake, my first even though I lived in CA for 3 years; his blood sugar dropped twice . This weekend there was Irene coming up the coast, so I have really been stressed. I don't usually get hungry, and I haven't been eating much. Greek yogurt or a slim fast to start the day, a couple of oz of deli meat and crackers then I try to get in dinner. Everything is going down ok, but my happy pills aren't making me happy as I should be. Also having problems sleeping.

    Please help?!

Just a few personal opions What is up with the nurse...you need to talk to a surgeon, they are better trained to understand and resolve problems If you have problems...wait and can then eat..something is wrong. I sugguest you try full liquids for 3 days, then mushies for 3. When adding back the soilds try to measure the 4oz of protein and the veggies as you should have been directed after surgery. This way if your throat is swollen or irriated it will give it some healing time. As a health care provider nobody should ever not listen to what you have to say about how you feel. Being this far out, it's hard to follow the rules, at least it is for me. I am in the process of starting again. I need to get things moving again and to do this I have to go back to the rules. You are the only person who knows how you feel. Make somebody listen to you. I can request to see the doc not the PA if I have a problem, you should be able to do the same.

    Goal weight

My doc only told me what my recommened BMI was and to keep it in mind as I set my goal. I am pushing for 5'2", that would put me at 135 which I haven't seen since I left boot camp in 1978. I told him that I didn't want to look like some starving kid in Africa. I also didn't want that caught in headlights look that Star Jones has. Most importantly I didn't want to set a goal and not make it; then I would feel like I failed. I set myslef at 170 thinking I could do it. I'm about 7lbs short and they just won't go. I feel better, hate the fact that I am still obese but I'm not doing all I can to get more off. A recent fil gave me restriction for the first time. Now I just have to get my head in the game.
  21. Lots of info is here, just browse and you will find many things of value.
  22. I consider myself one of the lucky ones. I was 240 when I went to the seminar. Nov. 08, I started making changes in how I ate to help me get ready mostly mentaly. Surgery was March 09, doc put in about 2 cc at that time. I was overnight because of insurance, I was able to keep down fluids on first try and was on full liquids (carnation instant breakfast) when I left the hospital. Little pain, gas was the big deal; I went out that night and the next two. I was just sitting, but I was out. Most folks seem to have a problem with hunger until they get to the just right fill spot. I never have had that hunger issue, as long as I followed the guidelines the weight came off. My "problem" is that I forget to eat. You need to learn how to eat, when and how much. Smaller bites, more chewing and don't drink with meals, but you still need to get in plenty of liquids. Inches came off sometimes even if pounds didn't; making better food choices seems to be the key. I lost about 60 lbs and got lazy and have not followed the course as I should. When you don't problems can come up. I got stuck and had the food come up. I went back to the table and I shouldn't have. I didn't know that and caused some problems for myslef that were really just swelling but that's not good for us. That required an unfill, then I waited to long to refill and gained 19 lbs. I have gotten them off but it took almost 6 months. I had a fill 2 weeks ago and have ture restriction for the first time. I am relearning some things because it is new for me. I hope to start geting some more weight off in the next few weeks. The experience if different for everyone. Type of band, doctors experience, your committment and lifestyle will all play a part in this. I only told my family and the few people I spent the most time with. Once people started to notice I told the ones I thought would understand, others I just said thanks. Emotionaly I am in a better place, health is much better. BP down and I have more energy, I can also shop in "normal" stores.
