    Activities for Exercise

This is the first time I have heard of an “Alinker”. Definitely out of my budget for now, but something to think about going forward. Thank you!

    Activities for Exercise

These are the ones I've been most eye-balling. As I mentioned, Kayaking is at the top of my list, BUT, I quit vaping for this surgery and have like $50+ dollars in credit at my vape store. I was bummed I was going to lose it. I hadn't been in for a while, and they moved a few doors down and expanded into a full-blown head shop. A head shop with a pretty extensive disc golf collection! PLUS, my college literally just installed a disc golf course behind the building that 95% of my classes are in. So that will be a thing, I'm pretty sure. I've always been wistful about those "Tough Mudder" type competitions. Like it looked so fun, but I was too out of shape for it. Maybe in a year or so I will be ready! I think, once I start really getting my walking game amped up, I'd like to do some 5Ks as well. Thanks for all the suggestions!

I have a super basic bike I got for my birthday in April. Do you need a special bike to do the classes and how expensive are they? Thanks for the response!

I do need to start that back up again when my belly is a little less painful from my sutures. We are a VR junkie family and Beat Saber is a favorite. My middle kid plays and its like he is channeling Cthulhu into his arms - it's kind of unnatural how fluid they become! In the early stages of divorce, atm, so once I move out in the next month or so, I'm going to need to buy a new Oculus for my place. Thanks for the suggestion!

    Activities for Exercise

Roller skating sounds like a blast. They closed down our one roller rink during the pandemic and it's been demolished. Maybe I can look into inline skates - do they still make those? Also, I remembered I have like $60 credit at my vape shop I've been saving up and now I have to quit vaping - but they recently grew and now are more of a vape/head/FRISBEE GOLF shop. AND, they just built a brand new frisbee golf course just outside my building on campus so I'm feeling like the universe is trying to tell me something.

I'm not sure dream running counts, but it sounds like a nice dream! Because it's been so hot and we can only have one air conditioner running at a time, I've been going to bed early with my husband and naturally waking up at 5:30am (I am usually a stay up until 2-4am type night owl). I'm thinking I'll keep it up next semester and avail myself of the pool at the college before my morning classes. I love swimming, and once I'm cleared for it, I think it will be good way to get some exercise in. Plus, I'll be able to justify the ludicrous "activity" fees I pay every semester!

    Activities for Exercise

I am not a fan of the gym. I dislike the whole concept and I've never enjoyed going (even when I was young and in decent shape). I prefer to do something fun that just happens to make my body exercise. Things like hiking and swimming. I even like playing Beat Saber on VR. I do have an exercise bike I got in April that I've used for ten minutes, once. I'm fairly certain riding an actual bike this early on (surgery isn't for a few weeks) and early in my process would be a challenge. So, my question is, what things do you do that are physical activities outside the gym? My #1 fitness goal is (once I'm a little smaller) to rent a kayak, and hopefully buy one next April (my 50th birthday!). I've never been physically active on a regular basis, so I'd love some ideas of things I've never considered before - I can't wait to get moving!

    August Surgery Buddies!

Two days before me! My liquid is only three days - two liquid, one clear liquid (day before surgery). They have me on semi-solids for five days before that and a low-cal/carb diet from the 20-25th. I almost wish it was just liquid - it would make me have to think less. I wish I could fast forward to my date so I wouldn't have to do these next two weeks! But, it will all be worthwhile. Are you in the states? Are you staying in the states or going abroad for surgery? Mine is in Tijuana.

    August Surgery Buddies!

The vaping thing is proving harder than I thought. I made it from 10am to 4pm today, and two hours of that was a nap. This is going to be tough. I'm going to leave it in the living room tonight when I go to bed. My meal plan for the 20th-25th is going to need some adapting - it's very meaty and I don't eat meat (just fish, eggs, dairy and veg). They said that was fine, but it's requiring a little more legwork from me. I'm thinking of making a little website for pescatarian bariatric patients, because there is NOT a lot out there. Especially because I have some food allergies, and it is a bear trying to find smoothies that don't have banana or avocado in them! I need to get it all planned out ahead or I'm going to struggle. I don't use cannabis at this time, but I'm glad your doc found something that worked for you!

    Help with Vitamins

Thank you! Are there one-and-done vitamins or are there definitely going to be multiple I need to take daily?
  14. I'm scheduled for my surgery August 3rd, and I'm trying to understand the vitamin situation. I currently take a gummy multivitamin (Vitafusion Women's) and I can tolerate those fine. Are gummies (obviously not my old ones) available and an option after gastric bypass? I love the idea of patches but I am allergic to adhesive, so that is a no-go. I'm hoping I can just take swallowable ones, if gummies don't work, but I guess chewables or liquids would be alright if they weren't too gross tasting. Does everyone take roughly the same vitamin mix or will the doc specify ones specific to me? I'm going to Tijuana, so I haven't had a lot of interaction with the medical team there yet. I'd just like to understand everyone's experience since I usually chug water with my swallowable pills and I'm not sure I can do it with a "sip". Thanks!

    August Surgery Buddies!

My bypass is scheduled for August 3rd. I'm nervous and have a LOT of changes to make before then. I need to quit vaping, and on the 20th, I need to start my diet changes. It's taking a lot for me to not keep thinking I should eat XYZ because I won't get to have it again. On the flip side, I think my brain is already getting engaged because I'm finding myself turning down sugar and not finishing everything on my plate.
