kissabeth got a reaction from RonHall908 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?
Ooof. Had my 6-week post-op appointment today and it felt a little like the Spanish Inquisition - my days vary so much that it was very hard to explain what my meals look like! (Mostly, frankly, I hate eating, so it's not a highlight of my day.)
They finally satisfied themselves that I really have been drinking enough Water and having enough Protein and few enough carbs, though, so it went pretty well. All the bits seem to function. Only issue we're both concerned about is that my exhaustion levels are pretty high, especially if I try to exercise, so the doctor was like, "go have some carbs already!"
After how hard they drilled into me not to eat them, the idea sounded pretty foreign, Not like they want me to go ham or anything, but just to eat half a piece of whole wheat bread (whole wheat bread here is pretty serious) with some protein on it before I exercise or something.
Tried it this afternoon and it was like someone had flipped a switch on XD
Also put on a dress that I haven't worn for 8 years thinking it was going to still be too small.
IT LOOKS LIKE A TENT. Had to give in and actually admit I need new clothes XD
Hope everyone else's week is going well...

I just got my staples out this morning - I had no idea how much they were hurting me! It's such a relief!!! ❤️
One thing I've noticed though - I've lost so much weight in my belly that the movement of the skin below it kind of jostles my incisions. It's keeping me from doing too much movement-related stuff, so I'm hoping now that they can heal the rest of the way, I can get back to moving more XD
How are you folks healing up?

My doctor wrote me off work for 2.5 weeks - 2 weeks out, I'm fine, and after the first week, I probably could have (a bit miserably) gone back to work, but I think I really needed that first week off. Even though I had minimal pain, some days I just needed to sleep.
Your body is going through a lot! Treat it well ❤️

I agree, the drinking and eating is time consuming. Take at least a week. Take what you can, you'll be glad you did. Remember its a major surgery either removing a portion of an organ or restructuring your digestive tract - either way its a serious surgery.

We all heal & recover differently & it is a pretty major surgery. Plus you’re on a restricted diet to begin, have restricted movement & how much weight you can carry, low in energy, & can get weary quickly. A friend was back at her job after a week - easy. Another took three weeks off & said she needed all of them. I did 4 weeks, returned part time but it wasn’t easy - weak, lots of drops of blood pressure, doughy headed. We all worked in offices.
Best advice is negotiate with your employers in case you do need extra time. Or return with reduced hours. You won’t actually know until it happens.
All the best with your surgery.
