  1. Hi everyone,

Got banded about nine weeks ago. I developed PCOS about four years ago and steadily gained seven pounds a year despite all frantic efforts - and finally lost my temper with my doctors and booked myself in for the band.

Since then, everything's gone well. I've lost 15 pounds, my periods have gone back to normal, and it's coming off at a rate of a pound a week. I've had no fills and never vomited (I have a strong emetophobia so chew everything to sludge). I don't feel hungry or deprived, I just eat less than I used to because I physically can't eat anymore. This seems to be enough.

I've been watching the weight just melt away with some pleasure. Reading about people's experiences though, this seems to be almost unusual. So I guess I just wanted to ask some of the more experienced banders - am I being overly optimistic that I'm going to make it to 160 pounds? Is this steady loss rate going to just stop at some point? What is the likelihood that I will continue this process until I hit a healthy BMI?

I've been looking up success rates in medical journals but everyone talks about average rate loss which includes people who have compulsive eating habits which I don't (I'm sitting writing this with a half cooked meal in the microwave that I've ignored for an hour now) - do people make it down to a regular healthy weight?

    Hi Sarah A,

Although I've converted to a sleeve due to band complications, I did loose 150lbs. So it is possible. Mind you I am 6'0 tall and weighed 375 when I started. Keep up the great work!

  2. Eight years ago, (2008) I had lap band sugery. In the beginning it seemed great and I lost weight. But as time went on each time I went back for an adjustment, it was hell. I always had to have them done at the hospital under x-ray. About 6 months after getting the band I started having problems keeping anything down including Water. It got to the point that every time I'd try to get an adjustment it would have to be reversed. In February of this year i finally said enough. My husband never wanted me to get gastric bypass, so I started researching. That's when I found more updated information on the gastric sleeve. I found Dr. Minkin and he removed my lap band in May 2016. I got sleeved on September 22nd 2016 and I feel so blessed.

Congrats!!! I am really happy with my sleeve!!

I had surgery on the 14th. I sleep on my back flat mostly and on my side some, with the help of my pillow.
I'm gone have to try my side so far I've been sleeping in a recliner

I was uncomfortable in a recliner. I'm a stomach sleeper so I'm trying to work my way on over.
I'm the same way I love sleeping on my belly but it be feeling like everything shifts in my belly when I turn

Well try your sides first and try working your way over at your own pace....

  5. I'm officially 1 week away from surgery and super excited to get my band out. After years of complications, I am optimistic and looking forward to the sleeve!!!!

I had my band to sleeve revision done on the 2nd. First thing I asked when I woke up was if it was successful since it was being done in one operation vs two. When I heard "yes", I was ecstatic. I'm happy and excited for you! I'm like on post day 7, I believe and well, it's been wonderful vs my first week with the band.
That is awesome!! How's your recovery going?
First day was a little rough, but after I got home that evening, it was smooth sailing.

  8. I'm on a Robard/New Direction Meal Replacement Diet. This includes 4 Meal Replacements a day, lean meat (baked or grilled skinless/boneless chicken breast, fish...minus salmon...turkey, shrimp.....), unlimited non-starchy vegetables, and unlimited calorie free (5 calories or less) drinks (i.e., Water, crystal light, suger free Jello or popsicles).

Is anyone not on a 2 week liquid diet. My surgeon has me on a 1000 calorie/day solid food diet for 2 weeks.
