    A 2nd Chance at Life

I am so glad that you made this decision for yourself, sometimes it is the hardest thing to do. I remember getting to the point where I just shut myself indoors and I couldn't face going outside, and I also was in so much pain just from short walks. There is always a turning point isn't there! Super proud of you and all you have achieved and that you are feeling so much better already. I only just started eating 'proper' food again as of two days ago and it is surreal to be chewing again, and a bit scary! But damn food tastes good again 😂 You got this ❤️

    Constipation?

Honestly this has been the absolute bane of my life. I am 4 weeks post-surgery and although I seem to be having a bowel movement every day or every other day, I was so so constipated. TMI here but It got to the point that I had an anal fissure and was passing blood every time I had a bowel movement. Needless to say, I am taking daily Dulcolax now and I will be doing so until I am able to eat more & include more fibre in my diet.
  3. Ooo yes I am interested in this! I bought myself an air fryer and I am so excited to use it!

    Just starting out

Sounds like you'll definitely be approved by the looks of their wording!

    Another observation on feeling full

Thank you all for the advice, it is really appreciated After all that, I ended up having a really high restriction day yesterday! Couldn't finish my food, and had the hiccups after 5 tsps of soup 🤣 I am definitely going to take it slow when I can eat 'normal' foods tomorrow - I just want to get it right haha.
  6. Hey all So I am almost 4 weeks post-surgery, and everything is going pretty well for the most part! I have noticed however, apart from the odd hiccup, that I don't really feel full! That being said, I haven't felt hungry either! 😅 I seem to be able to finish all of my food with no issues - I know everyone is different, and I get that this is just my body, but I find it so interesting!

Where to start (in the UK)?

I hope you find the answers you are looking for

Where to start (in the UK)?

That is completely fine! So my bypass was around £12,100 and I pay it in monthly instalments for the next 60 months. So I paid a 5k deposit (you only need 10% minimum I believe for their finance), and my monthly payments are £150. I thought I couldn't afford it privately in the UK until I realised finance was an option, and it was affordable for me so I just went for it. I spent a while on the NHS waiting list and it was awful!

Where to start (in the UK)?

Heya! I am also in the UK and I had a gastric bypass almost 4 weeks ago, privately with Simon Monkhouse. I'd advise making booking a consultation with Simon (it is free!) and just getting some advice there! https://www.simonmonkhouse.com/ I honestly cannot recommend him enough

    An interesting week

I love a good discount code 😂I swear I have stocked up on so many of their protein snacks which I am excited to try - also I went to Icelands and they have done a crossover with MyProtein and they have loads of food in there! The chocolate ice cream is AMAZING, and if you are having a bypass and need to stay under 7g of sugar per 100ml/g then it is perfect! Honestly I am SO struggling to find unflavoured protein powder - I think I am a bit like you in the sense when I smell something and it makes me gag, I really cannot drink it, and I have yet to find something that suits me

    An interesting week

Just as a side note for protein water - I use MyProtein which is a UK based store (and they always seem to have sales on!), and their clear whey protein isolate is lovely. So many different flavours - I have peach tea and also the watermelon one, and it is really nice!

    Another observation on feeling full

@NickelChip I imagine that is probably the case! On Wednesday I will be able to return to normal foods, but I am a bit apprehensive as to how to even start that!

I think I over did it! Help!!

I am a bit late to the party here, but I am pretty much at the same stage as you! I noticed the exact same thing on a day last week where I did 12,600 steps (which is WAY more than anything I had done so far post-surgery), and it felt like I had a constant stitch for hours!
  14. @Missy4391 congratulations on the beginning of your journey I remember thinking that the waiting was one of the worst things, but trust me, it comes around quickly! As others have said, taking before pictures & measurements is a good idea! And I would also advice getting your head into the right space where you don't rely on the scales. I think it is all too easy to get addicted to weighing yourself, especially in the first 4/5 weeks after surgery when your body just needs that space to heal without the added strain of any stress you may feel if your weight fluctuates. This forum was amazing for me to prepare for the surgery and also what to expect after, so I really do recommend reading as much as possible One thing I wish I had done is trial some vitamins to see if I liked the taste pre-surgery. I know people say that your tastebuds can change, which is true, but some of the vitamins are just unbearable 🤢I bought Bariease powder supplement and my god it was the worst thing. I now just take dissolvable orange A-Z vitamins and let the fizz die down and it is so much better! @MrsFitz I think I may have already said this, but I am also in the UK so if you want to chat or have any UK specific questions please do let me know!

    Bruising

@Parsons96 Hey lovely. My bruises did get bigger initially and I remember thinking the same thing as you! Everything is going to feel a bit weird initially after surgery, just remember your body is healing and there is a lot going on inside that we can't see, the bruising is just a reflection of this. That being said, as others have advised, do talk to your Dr if you are worried, always worth getting that reassurance
  16. So I had surgery on the 14th May, and I am still on a slush stage (basically just thicker liquids). I know that because of this I wont feel full as I will do when I am on more solid food, but I think my body has a new way of telling me I am full up: HICCUPS! I absolutely HATE hiccups - does anyone else get this? 😡

    New Beginnings

Hello and welcome to the start of your journey! It is equally as exciting as it is nerve-wrecking at times, but you've got this! Looking forward to seeing your progress!

How my body tells me I am full

Thank you everyone for the responses - it is really interesting to see how every one else reacts to new signals! I am hoping that mine won't be hiccups forever 😂

    May 2024 Surgery Buddies 😁

I am so glad to see I am not the only one wishing that they could be eating something solid 😂 Or even just eggs! I am still on the liquid stage until Wednesday!
  20. So my surgery went successfully on 14/05/24. The first night was beyond rough, I don't think anything can prepare you for the gas pain! It was the first time I'd been in hospital & had surgery as an adult so it was very daunting, but everything went well. I am home now after 2 nights in the hospital, and I am feeling quite tender but I am not sure if this is just the residual gas pain, or just the feeling of overwhelming fullness when I am trying to drink water! I am really glad it is done now, but it is a bit overwhelming to begin with! Thank you everyone who sent me well wishes x

I did it! I had my surgery

@SleeveToBypass2023 Thank you! I have made the decision not to weigh myself for the 4 weeks that I am on my post-op diet, just because I don't want to get fixated when my body is still learning this new way of living! I am definitely struggling to get food in at the moment! But I shall keep trying! ❤️

    Wine

@shawn524 Hello Shawn. I haven't heard anything like this in all the research I have done, but I'd suggest consulting your surgeon/Dr about it just to get their opinion! I am sure you are aware, but addiction transference can happen with a lot of bariatric patients - just something to be mindful of! I am really glad that you have come so far in your journey! Congratulations

I did it! I had my surgery

@NickelChip Thank you for your advice, I really do appreciate it. It feels so strange - like I need to burp but I am struggling to and it just sits there like a tightness in my chest! Ugh. I will take it as easy as I can!
