What do you wish you had done BEFORE your gastric bypass surgery to get ready?
Bypass2Freedom replied to DianeF's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
That is a lovely idea I use: Lactulose: 4-5 5ml spoonfuls per day Dulcoease: 1 5ml spoonful in the evening before bed I have only stopped using these in the last 5 days as my bowel movements are more regular, and to be honest, the dulcoease is very hard hitting, so I wouldn't use that unless you are really struggling with constipation. Just try and eat enough fibre, and drink enough water throughout the day Per day I take: x2 A-Z multivitamin gummies (even though the recommended is always 1, my dietician said bariatric patients should take 2) x1 spray of Vitamin D per day x4 sprays of Vitamin B12 x2 Hairburst gummies -
The Dreaded Calorie Talk

Oh! I forgot to mention! She was a little confused as to who advised my friend on the 900-1000 cals a day, as she said focusing on the numbers right now isn't beneficial - turns out I worried for nothing 😂 -
The Dreaded Calorie Talk
Bypass2Freedom replied to Bypass2Freedom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone! I really wanted to reply to everyone individually but I ended up just running out of energy - but reading your replies it made me feel a lot more confident in what I am doing. I appreciate all of your advice. I had my 8 week post-op appointment with my bariatric nurse, and she did say that I am probably eating too little, and this could be being driven by the fact I am not drinking enough. So, goals going forward is to drink more water, and to have breakfast! I feel good overall though, dizziness seems to have stopped 🤞 I just need to find some low sugar snacks to bring with me for my tattoo appointments on Tues & Thurs...hmm... -
A Week To Forget

I think there must be something in the air! My emotions were also a rollercoaster, especially on the weekend where I spent most of it crying 😂 Really sorry you had such a low one - but can I just say how happy I am for you for your NSVs - you are doing amazingly x -

I am actually quite excited to open it as I can't remember a damn thing I have written 😂 I read that it is supposed to really help, especially if you are struggling at the 6 month point with not losing enough etc, it kinda reminds you of how you felt before surgery, and why you did it! -

Constipation has been THE thing that I have struggled with most post-surgery. Pleaseeee get something to help with this before the symptoms of it start kicking in - I didn't do this and boy did I suffer 😂 Cleaning the house/flat is definitely a good place to start! I also wrote myself a letter for like 6 months post-op to open so that I could reflect back on how I was feeling, and the hopes that 'old' me had for 'new' me. Best of luck! -
So im 5 weeks post op and….

I think stalls are pretty inevitable, regardless of intake! I have been eating things like, chicken, shrimp etc and stalls still happen! Your body is just recalibrating -
So I am due to go on holiday to Greece in mid-September. It'll be my first time going to a hot country in my entire life. I genuinely think if I hadn't of had WLS I wouldn't go - I just know it would have been pure suffering! By September I'll be approximately 4 months post-surgery! So my question is...when do I buy new clothes for this?! I already know my clothes 1) are getting too big, and 2) are not suitable for a hot country (living in the UK means my wardrobe is predominantly black & full of jumpers & hoodies). Also, I don't even know what to wear or what size I am/will be by then! Ughhhhh this is hard 😂

How long post-op are you? I know my surgeon said not to have sex/any sexual activity for around 2-4 weeks! But definitely if it hurts, probably too soon for you! -

Oh good lord I know I am going to suffer still 😭 I need to actually check that...I have a feeling it is self-catering. I will definitely stock up - I have already started making a wishlist on Matalans, though I feel I will have to go in-store and try some stuff on! -

Genuinely Snag Tights are so good! I recommend them so highly! I shall have a look at that - would be nice not to have to rely purely on shorts to prevent chafing! -

Seems like the way to go then! That and maybe raiding some of my old clothes 🤔 I have never tried skorts before! I swear I have just been living in stretchy leggings for what seems like a lifetime...time to be brave! -

Hmm, that is true actually! It feels as though we have skipped Summer here 😅 I shall hold off from buying anything just yet, as I am conscious of how fast the weight loss is right now! I think I am suffering a bit from imposter syndrome right now - I feel like a fraud if I were to buy smaller sizes if that makes sense! Like my body won't actually ever fit into them (which I know is insane, given that I am and have lost weight) but my brain hasn't caught up yet. I have heard nothing but good things about M&S - I may create a holiday wishlist on there! I admit I have never even worn those kinds of trousers before! But I think that was just due to me not feeling like they'd suit my shape! -
Oh I am so sorry that this has happened I completely can empathise with unexpected reactions on account of childhood things - the body holds a lot of trauma and sometimes it comes out in unexpected ways. I genuinely hope that they can give you the kind of sedation you require - I really hope it is smooth sailing for you from here on out x

I do definitely like dresses! I will definitely give that a go - I didn't even consider ordering the same thing in different colours 😂 Thank you so much for the wisdom! -
A Bit Of An Emotional Week
Bypass2Freedom replied to MrsFitz's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I feel you on the scales front! One minute I am losing and the next it is a gain! Hard to keep up with it, and after years and years of being absolutely devestated by that number on the scale, it is hard not to slip back into old thoughts. Motivation is THE hardest thing, and I think you have picked up on a really key point here, and one that I feel we may all have struggled with - why is it that the things that "should" motivate us to lose weight, do the opposite? I always found that this related directly to my emotional eating. I also never try clothes on in-store, and on the rare occasion that I did, and it didn't fit, I'd be in meltdown mode, and I'd seek food as a comfort. I don't think it is ridiculous lovely, I think it is a lot harder than just: "I know I should do something about this, so just do it". It runs deeper than that, and it is why so many of us struggle with losing weight without surgical intervention. Please give yourself some grace, and know that you are doing all you can for yourself, no matter the pace you are at. You have got this ❤️ -

Definitely try and get some sleep! 😂 This is definitely the case! I know myself that I need to focus a little bit more on my water intake - then hopefully I shall feel a bit more energy! I have been back to the gym in the last week and started walking more, and I will be having a personal trainer come the 1st August so I know I am going to be putting my weight loss & health first! Which is surprisingly exciting haha. -

@ShoppGirl I am with you on the freezing side - I am far too unorganised to try and keep on top of all of that! I find that if I have any leftovers I will just take it into work the next day for lunch! Oooh that sounds so lovely, I can't lie, the food in the US sounds amazing compared to the UK at times 😂 I am a BIG fan of salmon with that being said haha. Your menu honestly sounds divine! Hmmm...I am inspired! -

Sometimes we have the best ideas at 3am 🤣 Very much the case - I know I am guilty of not realising just how much work goes into this post-surgery, even with being well informed. There is a difference between reading about it, and living it! It is so strange to me now to look back on how I was, even though I am not too far out yet - I was binge eating on a massive scale, and my weight was just rising so quickly. I think back to that little 12 year old girl I used to be, who struggled with her weight back then, and I genuinely feel grief for her. This surgery has given me the ability to not be controlled by food - yes, it is still important, but I don't think about it 24/7, I don't have to crave sugar and I feel so much better already. And you guys on this site have all contributed to me just biting the bullet and going for it with the surgery! -

This is really helpful to read, especially as someone with PCOS. Thank you for sharing ❤️ I genuinely have found this site to be incredibly helpful in the time leading up to my surgery, and even more so now I am post-surgery. Knowing some of the things to expect, and having answers at the ready from so many people who share this experience is invaluable. Thank you again ❤️ -

I think I found the same thing with the tomatoes initially! I just made sure I was chewing them for a bit longer which seemed to help. But they definitely are more difficult to breakdown compared to regular tomatoes! Ooh, I haven't even tried grapes yet! If I am honest I feel a bit nervous to try most fruits for some reason! I have only had kiwis which are lovely! -

Sometimes I just can't be bothered to cook! Especially when I know that I won't eat it all 🤣 What are some of your favourite go-to's? -

I feel like I am stuck in a repetitive loop with food at the moment - I find one thing I like and it is all I eat 😂 My current obsession is a mix of things in a bowl, including: beetroot, small balls of mozzarella, chicken pieces, cucumber, crème fraîche, olives, sundried tomatoes, and a protein popped corn and pea mix. Sounds gross but for some reason I really can't stop eating it 😂
