wintobethin got a reaction from MrBroussard in Hello Into
Hi Azdwing...I am new here too! My appt. with the surgeon is next Tuesday Oct. 8th. for my first consultation. We are retired military so we are Tricare Prime. My DH and I lived out in AZ for almost 8 years. He was stationed at Williams AFB, in Chandler, AZ but went to ASU for his degree. We are retired here in Ohio. My BMI is 40.1 plus I have other health issues that I hope clear up. Just went on the CPAP machine in May and my PCM told me that I could probably get off of it when some of my weight is gone. I had my gallbladder out in May also, so don't have to contend with that issue. Just worried about the scar tissue that my surgeon said I had so much of from the GB being so diseased for so long.
    Just wanted to say hi...........Jan

I had a band to RNY 5/1, it ended up taking 6 hours because I had a massive amount of scar tissue, but I recovered quickly, had minimal pain, and am doing great now. Minor complication with gross drainage from my JP, but had that removed this past thursday.
Make sure the Protein shakes from Shakley are whey Protein, and you need to ask the sugar content, some are outrageous. Good luck!

The only person that knows about my revision to RNY is my doctor/husband/son and insurance company! That's it, I know the people at church would be VERY upset with my surgery, but I have tried for years to get this weight off and I am ready to go from band to RNY....no date yet!

WOW, they left the remnants in of your old band????? My surgeon told me that he would take it out, that is why the surgery would take longer. How long was your surgery? It souds like you are happy with your choice of RNY....that is also my choice...just waiting on a date.

Last year (2012) I was having so much problem with my Lap Band (surgery Jan. 2009). Had xrays that showed nothing was wrong with it. But the heart burn, acid reflex, burping....etc.... I had had enough! Went to primary care doctor, he agreed to send me to the Gastric Surgeon. She approved my request to have a revision to RNY. BUT, she couldn't do it as she was the only Gastric Surgeon they had (USAF), so she approved the order to send me downtown. Tricare approved the order for me to see Gastric Surgeon, he approved the surgery, had all the tests, blood, chest xray, EKG, Phsic, dietician, trainer, etc....BUT, then it happened. Tricare said no! What the HELL???? On July 5th the fight started. Had 2 denials and sent all the paper work of the doctors I had seen over the 4 years of lap band and problems I have had. Stll denial....sent ONE more appeal to Tricare and it took almost a year. This all started on July 5, 2012 and I just recieved my apporval last week (May 2, 2013). Don't ever give up HOPE! I thought the insurance lady was going to fall over when I called to tell her it was APPROVED! Now the only thing I have left to do is Cadiologist as I am over 60. So hopefully this will go fast....I am so ready!!! Thanks for listening......
