    Mum's the word!

thank you for your comments on this. I am having my upper GI this week and blood work, no surgery date yet, but coming after this Thursday, waiting to see the GI reports. I can't wait to get the band off!!! How long did the surgery take from removal of the band to RNY, I am guessing 2 plus hours???? I still haven't told anybody else and I am glad. One lady from church is bugging me about trying the protein drinks from Shakley for a diet. She doesn't know what I have planned. Maybe approach her after surgery for protein drink help???? Thanks again everybody!
  2. I am having a revision, lap band to RNY in June. How long did your surgery take. I am guessing 2 hours plus?????

    Sleep apnea

I had Lap Band on Jan. 2009 started at 257 lbs, got down to 189, but still had sleep apnea. Gained some weight back, up to 202. Heading in this month to have RNY, need to drop 80lbs and have tried all diets and still holding at this weight and still use CPAP, I think it is here to stay
  4. Happy 62nd Birthday wintobethin!

  5. The only person that knows about my revision to RNY is my doctor/husband/son and insurance company! That's it, I know the people at church would be VERY upset with my surgery, but I have tried for years to get this weight off and I am ready to go from band to RNY....no date yet!

I had to submit 3 times and it finally went through...took them almost a YEAR!!!! I had every piece of paper from my doctor/hospital to send to them plus my C-PAP documentation....NEVER GIVE UP!!! By any chance is it Tricare? Good luck, and God Bless You!

    Does it feel the same?

WOW, they left the remnants in of your old band????? My surgeon told me that he would take it out, that is why the surgery would take longer. How long was your surgery? It souds like you are happy with your choice of RNY....that is also my choice...just waiting on a date.
  10. Last year (2012) I was having so much problem with my Lap Band (surgery Jan. 2009). Had xrays that showed nothing was wrong with it. But the heart burn, acid reflex, burping....etc.... I had had enough! Went to primary care doctor, he agreed to send me to the Gastric Surgeon. She approved my request to have a revision to RNY. BUT, she couldn't do it as she was the only Gastric Surgeon they had (USAF), so she approved the order to send me downtown. Tricare approved the order for me to see Gastric Surgeon, he approved the surgery, had all the tests, blood, chest xray, EKG, Phsic, dietician, trainer, etc....BUT, then it happened. Tricare said no! What the HELL???? On July 5th the fight started. Had 2 denials and sent all the paper work of the doctors I had seen over the 4 years of lap band and problems I have had. Stll denial....sent ONE more appeal to Tricare and it took almost a year. This all started on July 5, 2012 and I just recieved my apporval last week (May 2, 2013). Don't ever give up HOPE! I thought the insurance lady was going to fall over when I called to tell her it was APPROVED! Now the only thing I have left to do is Cadiologist as I am over 60. So hopefully this will go fast....I am so ready!!! Thanks for listening......

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?

I will be 62 this month (May) and I am having a revision from Lap Band to RNY....I have had so many fills and unfills it is CRAZY! I have tried MANY diets too. I am VERY active, so decided I needed a different type of "help" in the weight loss department. Is is more difficult having a revision. Did GREAT with the surgery on LB, but just a little nervous on the RNY....more invasive.....

    Questons re: Panniculectomy...

I will try and answer all of your questions... Cost - FREE, insurance covered it. But I had to have reason besides hanging skin. I was having trouble with rash in summer. Pain - I had my surgery done Monday morning at 10:00, took no pain meds in hospital (they kept asking me). I have taken 1 1/2 pills since I have been home, today is Wednesday evening. I have a VERY HIGH PAIN LEVEL, which is good since I have had over 50 kidneys stones in the last 25 years!!! It is more uncomfortable then pain. The pressure garmets SUCK!!! I have one drain which feels like it is pulling all of the time, but I keep checking it and nothing is pulling on it???? I have to empty the drain several times aday, ugh! They told me to keep stupped over like a little old woman for a week so there is no pulling on the incision site. I have been sleeping on the sofa, esasier to get up and use the restroom. My appitite is good, too good! I stepped on the scales but didn't see any weight loss??? They took about 4inches of hanging skin off clear across by belly. I don't think they took pictures, but my husband did before I had surgery. NO I AM NOT POSTING PICTURS, SORRY, JUST SOME THINGS I WON'T DO ON THIS COMPUTER! I go back on the 30th of Sept. to have the drain removed and just general check from surgeon. I hope this anwers some of your questions. If I have missed some just ask. Oh, yes, I WOULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN!:smile2:

    Questons re: Panniculectomy...

I just had a Panniculectomy this past Monday 20th. So far I am happy with it. I just wish he could have done the TT as I wanted it done. But he told me that the Lap Band port was in the way and he would not touch that. I am in compression garments for 4 weeks and doing well. I was cut from hip to hip for the Panni with one drain. He did not have to move my belly button and I did not stay over night. I was given the choice to stay but I hate over night stays at hospitals, can't rest!!!! If you have any questions give me a shout!:rolleyes2:
