My surgeon explained that the “hunger” feeling is actually your stomach being inflamed during the healing process. It triggers your brain to react like hunger hormone. It will pass :)

It could be just your fussy sensitive tummy. Many of us experience temporary changes to our taste buds &/or sense of smell. For some certain textures upset them. I was so excited when I was able to eat vegetables again but nope my tummy said no to some of my favourites. But it was only temporary. At best it’s just a ‘this is yucky’ reaction. At worst it may cause you to vomit. And yes certain artificial sweeteners (usually the alcohol ones) can cause digestive distress - bloating, vomiting, diarrhoea, etc.
I actually had a reverse experience. Before surgery, I often found smoked salmon too rich & strongly flavoured. After surgery I surprisingly could eat it (smear of cream cheese wrapped around a wedge of cucumber - yum). But a few weeks later - nope awful & still avoid it.
Give your tummy time to relearn flavours, smells, textures, etc. This is often a great time to try different foods or foods you fed isn’t enjoy in the past. Avoid those foods that upset you fur a couple of weeks & then try again.

is it flavored yogurt? If so, it could be whatever artificial sweetener they use. Some people are sensitive to certain artificial sweeteners.

It may be too thick, you can try adding some milk to thin it out. It happened to me at the beginning and even now at 6 months post op is not my favorite alone.

I'm having a hard time too! My Sleeve surgery was on 04/18 so I just started week 3. According to my surgeons plan, I'm still on a full liquid diet. Next week, week 4, I can throw in scrambled eggs, low or non fat cottage cheese, 2% string cheese, low fat cheese slices, and add fruit to blended Protein Shakes. On week 5 I can add soft cooked vegetables, canned chicken or tuna - fork smashed, refried Beans, bananas, and canned fruit - fork smashed. Week 6 I move to solid food as tolerated.
Last week at my 1 week follow up I told my Dr that I was very surprised at how hungry I am all the time and that I'm able to get all the Protein and liquids down with no problems. I think he kind of thought I was under the impression that I got a bad sleeve. Mostly because he said: "I don't want you to think you didn't get a good sleeve..." hahaha!
I'm just trying not to compare myself to others. It's hard. I keep reading about how everyone is not hungry anymore and I get a bit jealous. Hahahaha! I'll survive.... but I can't wait for some scrambled eggs!

I have had my gastric sleeve surgery April 24th 2023. I am currently 6days post op. No pain, little sore. I am able to take in my 64oz of Fluid (clear). And starting full liquid in 2 days, for two weeks. Im so hungry and would die for some puree. I walk as much as i can considering I dont have as much energy at the moment.
Please how did you cope with the hunger while on the liquid diet?
    How long before puree food?
Thanks for any response. I really appreciate it 🙏🙏

I love the Alani FitShakes (140 calories, 16g protein). They drink more like milk than a shake, and I hate the ones that are too thick. They're about the only ones I can stomach, and my husband HATES that kind of thing and even he likes them. They have a fruity Cereal flavor that tastes like Froot Loops that is amazing!

I am well into my two week pre op liquid diet and I sweat this is killing me. I'll admit that I ate a tuna packet early on, then took some magnesium citrate to get it out of my system. DO NOT CHEAT! I promise it is not worth it! Magnesium citrate is a fate that I wish on no one!
My only advice is to diversify what you're eating as much as possible. I went from Premier drinks, to Fairlife Protein, to different types of Soups that are validated under the liquid diet. I was craving salty things, so the soups definitely helped me out with that!

I had vsg 4 years ago and lost 82 lbs; my husband had surgery the same day and lost 100 lbs. I started a blog to keep up with what I was feeling and eating, and that has now migrated to a full-blown food blog. But I wanted to share this yummy lobster bisque recipe that we used a lot during Post-Op/Full Liquids stage.
