  1. Hi all - I'm so sorry to hear of what you are facing guys; I'm sure you had not bargained for that! I wondered what procedure you all had. I had a gastric bypass and seem to have healed well thus far. I only feel nauseous very occasionally and the feeling is fleeting and thus I'm not actually put off of eating my food. I have not yet experienced 'dumping' and threw up only once much earlier on. I have not yet had a bad reaction to anything that I have eaten but I do try to be careful. I'm three and a half months post surgery and feeling ok. I swim daily and feel sufficiently healed so far. Have you all spoken to your health team? xx
  2. Awww - its so lovely to hear your good news stories; I am so happy and excited for you both. I'm doing ok - still ploughing on. I have changed my job and am choosing to drive a lot less in place of walking. I find some days i want to eat a little more but am not craving sweet things - I just eat a little more of the good stuff. It feels necessary since i am using more energy by walking a lot more in addition to swimming each say. Does anyone else find there are some days when they want to eat a little more? Also, I would love to hear some more good news stories 😘x
  3. I am still eating a few small meals per day as I think id be exhausted if I didn't. It seems to work for me. I am still exercising most days (swimming is my thing) and I feel that I need a sufficient calorific intake to support that - I do enjoy a work out!. I have felt a little more tired since surgery but I've made it work for me. I go to bed a little earlier and wake earlier - I am in the pool by 6:30am! I eat a little later for my last meal as I seem to sleep really deeply - I like the new routine as I wake up refreshed and go to bed pleasantly tired. I guess we are all still navigating our way through post surgery. I had my surgery on 1st June and am 41lbs down which I am ok with - I think perhaps id be too fatigued if I ate any less. We got this - we just have to continue to try hard to stay with it. Good luck beautiful people xx

  5. Hey there chef - their aint no shame in this game honey; its whatever works for you! If that is what motivates you, you go girl. We are all just trying to get through this anyway we can because yup, it is hard. I use visualisation and also keeping up the swimming each day because of its positive impact upon my mind set and general sense of wellbeing. I also pray, give thanks and am going to start some new hobbies. Its by any (healthy) means necessary - I intend to make it and I wish the same for all of you xx

  7. Hi - I had a bypass on June 1st. I have had a pretty good recovery and healing so far and was given the all clear to swim at 2 and a half weeks post op. I have been swimming mostly daily since. I was given the all clear to start some high intensity this week (with some precaution) - I've had one class so far and really enjoyed it. My starting weight was 215lbs and I'm now 179lbs. I'd like to lose another 79lbs.
  8. Hi guys - hope you are all happy and well. I've not posted in a little while and thought id give a little update. I had a gastric bypass on June 1st and so I am almost 7 weeks post surgery. My recovery has been very good and two and a half to three weeks post surgery. I was given the all clear to swim; I've been swimming almost daily since. I had my second appointment with my surgeon on Monday and was given the all clear to do high intensity training but with some caveats. I did my first class yesterday and it felt amazing. I was the biggest in the class and actually stumbled on the treadmill. I try to hide in shame - I accepted peoples genuine concern and carried on with the class; it felt great if not a little emotional. I ate pureed foods right out of surgery followed by soft foods. I have been given the all clear to eat normal foods now. I tend to go for home made things - I love chicken and chick pea curry with vegetables, Quorn bolognaise, lentil and beans soup, salmon with five bean salad - I'm really enjoying my food. I eat little and often - around 4 small 'meals' per day - sometimes 5. That seems to work well for me as I used to be a grazer. I started at 215lbs and am now 180lbs. I'm getting there - it will be along journey but in going to keep going xx

  10. Hi there my June friends - I hop you re all well. I had my surgery on 1st June (bypass). my starting weight was 215lbs and I am down to 184lbs. I have been able to eat purees foods straight out of hospital for 3.5 weeks and am now on soft food (food that I can get a fork through). I eat about 4-5 small meals per day and try to drink a litre and a half of water. I have not had any problems so far and am enjoying a wider variety of things to eat. I've been swimming almost each morning since just under 3 weeks out of surgery. I think I am doing ok - just so glad to have had this opportunity to help me to manage my weight. There is still so much to learn about this new tool but I am going to enjoy the journey 🙂. I hope you are all happy with the decision to have weight loss surgery xxx

  13. Hi Guys - so funny that you should mention swimming! I had my surgery on 1st June. I spoke with my surgeon this morning; I sent photo's of my incision sites and following discussion, he cleared me to swim. I went today and had a slower than usual swim but it felt good xx
  14. I had bypass surgery. My medical team advised me beforehand that for a number of patients, the surgery prompts hormonal changes which alters your body's response to food; there is a change in the interest of food and your body will experience the taste and smell of food in a different way. Some food will taste different whilst others might arouse the feeling of nausea. These are all natural. For your lack of energy - drink more water. I am in the UK - my post op diet is 4 weeks of pureed food followed by 4 weeks of soft food followed by the introduction of 'normal' food; these stages are all initially guided by the dietician. I have not experienced any pain with the surgery. I was not discharged with any torso bands or heat pads or anything like that, nor was i advised to run warm water over the incisions sites. I was strongly advised the incision sites should not be immersed in water for 4 weeks post surgery - the very clear advice was to leave the incision sites ALONE owing to the risk of infection. You are all fabulous for advice and support here but i always tend to check things out with my medical team and that is generally the advice that i adopt xx
  15. I was a smoker but have not smoked for years. I do remember enjoying it - really took the edge off of stressful situations sometimes. Be careful Maggie honey - I know just how addictive they can be but they can interfere with your recovery. You gave up once - you can do it again. Just one day at a time sweetie xx
