  1. I started my pre op diet today. It's not bad. I think because lately I haven't been eating that much anyways. But the Protein Shakes omg they are sweeter than I last remembered. I had Atkins creamy cinnamon swirl and premiere chocolate Peanut Butter shakes so far. I had the cake batter one and that tastes really sweet and leave an after taste. Plus they are making my stomach ache a little bit. The powdered Protein shakes I feel like that sit with my stomach better and I'm not really sure why?

On my diet, I'm allowed a healthy dinner. Which consists of lean protein and non starchy vegetables. I'm allowed to have a serving of lite Salad Dressing. I'm actually not hungry either. But I'm slacking with getting the shakes in. I planned everything out for the day and I missed 2 servings of Fluid and a 3rd Protein Shake so far. Yikes!

    Hopefully tomorrow is better

Anyone have the surgery yet? I'm so nervous about after surgery.

You will be fine! I haven't had surgery yet, but I did have weight loss surgery before. I had lapband and it had to be removed in 2013 due to an abscess to the surgery I had to put the band back in place. But the after surgery wasn't bad, get up and walk to make sure you don't get blood clots, they usually give a shot in the stomach that helps prevent blood clots as well. When I had surgery before, I was so tired, I slept, got up walked around the hall and used my phone or their TV and fell asleep and repeat. Later that night I had nausea and I had that for 2 and a half months. So if you tend to get nausea, ask for something for that before going into surgery that day and if you have nausea after surgery, they will give you some nausea medicine.

Getting up and out of the bed was a little hard for me. I had someone help me out of the bed. Everyone is different. Some can get up easier than others. With lapband, I only had to stay over night. With bypass I'm staying 3 days. Your stomach/abdomen will be sore for about a week or so, depending.

Bring a pillow for the ride home! It really helps with any bumps along the way home!

    Good luck!

    I’m scheduled 2/27! I start the pre-op liver shrinking diet on 2/13

My preop starts Tuesday and I can't believe it's already here! It's coming quick. I prettyuch have everything I need now. What Soup broths does everyone like that has low sodium in it? Also what does everyone like for yogurt? I like the dannon light and fit. Oikos is close in nutrition facts, but a little better. They don't have as mamy different flavors tho

Hello I’m new on here just found this forum but I’m so excited and nervous just scheduled my sleeve for Feb 2 ! I’m still on the one meal a day and rest shakes they said two days before will be just liquid! I’m 4”11 202

That's how my preop diet is going to be as well. You will like this site. It's very helpful and it will definitely be a good place to talk to other bariatric patients 🙂

I had RnY gastric bypass on October 18, 2022.

I was told that straws were allowed, as long as they didn't cause gas. So, I've been using straws since the day I came home.

If you get the bariatric Vitamins, then you'll only need to supplement some Calcium. You can buy them separately, but if you do that then you're going to be taking a handful of pills, multiple times a day. And it's really not anymore expensive to just buy the bariatric ones. I got the chewables.

The Soups you can use are going to depend on your stage. If you're on Clear Liquids, then you won't be able to have cream Soups. Once you're on full liquids, then you can have cream soups - you'll just need to strain them.

I was allowed to shower the day after getting home - so on my second day post op.

I packed an extra long phone charger (didn't need it), a heating pad (didn't need it), an Abdominal binder (I didn't use it in the hospital, but I did use it for a couple of days after I got home), an old pair of slippers that I planned to just throw away (I did use them when walking the halls in the hospital) and a robe (I did use it when walking the halls in the hospital). Other than that, I just wore home the same clothes that I wore to the hospital. I knew that I was only going to be staying one night, so I didn't bring any toiletries.

I did not have a drain placed, thanks be to God. I've heard those are unpleasant to have removed.

Yeah the nurse told me I'd have to double up on vitamins if I bought them separately. She also told me the regular pill form of Multivitamins don't absorb as well so she'd recommend the capsule form or the chewables. Which is what I'm going for and I really want the orange flavored ones first. I'd be spending more if I bought them all separately. Told me to not get it with Iron and my surgeon is prescribing iron after surgery.

My surgeon has his patients stay 3 days.

When I had an abscess in my stomach, I had a drain and it was so uncomfortable when they pulled it out!. I had a feeding tube in my stomach as well and that one felt so weird when they pulled that one out!

  7. Hey guys, so, I have a few questions and I will ask my surgeon as well at my upcoming pre surgery appointment.

    1. Are straws allowed while drinking anything? I swear I was told that you can

    2. I'm thinking about getting the Bariatric Fusion Vitamins. The nurse at the bariatrics office tells me that she recommends them over getting the vitamins separately. Do I still need other vitamins on top of those?

    3. So, I was wondering if we get tested the day after surgery to see if everything is working the way they're supposed to? Or is every surgeon different? (Like I said I will be asking my surgeon all of these questions)

    4. Soups...we can use the broth in any Soup? Probably the lower sodium Soups right?

    5. Last, but not least. Do they usually let you take a shower after surgery or do you have to wait awhile? I would really like to shower before I come home. Surgery is getting closer and closer...ahh!

2 Bonus question, what is or did everyone pack for surgery?

Is their going to be a drain placed?

Nurse told me to make a list of any questions I may have.

I'm so nervous and my insides are going to be strange lol

Hey guys, mine is on the 7th.
I'm going for the sleeve, and I'm super excited but also a bit scared...
How are you dealing with the PreOp fear?

Sent from my SM-G998B using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm scared too, but we will be fine! I've done the preop diet before when I had lapband in 2009. It's not all that bad, I started to get sick of the Protein Shakes. Then again, I only had one flavor, so definitely grab a few different ones. The only thing that is really different this time that I can remember is that I'm allowed one meal a day up until the day before surgery (I'll have to see if a few days before surgery is different)

I have to do the endoscopy on 1/17 and then I can schedule. Pretty sure I will be in February! Lapband to bypass revision. Can’t wait to have a date.

I had lapband in the past as well, but I didn't go from that to this and I wish I did back then! I wish you luck! Can't wait. It's getting more real and I'm starting to get nervous haha

Waiting for insurance is the pits. I have heard that once submitted they have 30 days to either approve or deny it. Perhaps you could call the insurance and ask if they received it and when (and also whether what I heard is true in all cases). I’m the mean time I agree with starting your healthy habits. One thing that was hard for me to get used to was taking the Vitamins. Perhaps take a regular (non bariatric) version but take it at the same times a day you plan to take the bariatric on (also order those soon cause they take a while to shop for whatever reason and take advantage of auto ship and adjust the date based on your surgery date if you want or just stay a little ahead. Also, getting used to logging calories and Water intake. You can make adjustments to calories or not it’s up to you but getting used to logging them and your fluids are things you will eventually have to do (having some idea how much Water you naturally drink now may be good to know as well cause I not everyone drinks 64oz Exactly. I actually drank way more than that). Another thing that was an adjustment for me was not drinking before or after meals. Perhaps practice some of these things now and you will be ahead of the game by the time you are approved. Your surgery time will be here before you know it.

I know. I've been making changes since my first appointment. They say I don't need specific bariatric Vitamins. Right now it's cheaper to buy them from the store. Regular vitamins. I really do want the bariatric ones tho. I do have a wightloss journal all set up and I am going to start using it. I did make a water log in it. The hardest part is not being able to drink with meals. If I drink water before eating, I need to wait 30 minutes before eating and then an hour after eating before drinking.

BUT yeah I learned something yesterday! I called the bariatric center and asked about it and told them I didn't get a call yet. She told me that with my insurance I don't need an approval call. She said they sent the paperwork to the surgeons office. They transferred me over to them to schedule my surgery and I guess they aren't open on Fridays lol sooo on monday, I guess I will be scheduling my surgery!! Hopefully!

  11. I had info session the first time I had went to the bari center. After that was my first appointment, meeting with a fitness coach (was require and she was in the network), nutritionist, psych eval, bundle of tests, I had to get my thyroid under control because during the blood work bundle it was too high I think, monthly weigh in, I had to meet up with physical therapy, I had to attend a class about the surgeries, I had to meet up with the nutritionist again and then my last appointment on Dec 6 was my weigh in appointment and I gave then the paper I said with my thyroid levels how they were where they are supposed to be and she submitted everything to my insurance. I know they cover the surgery because I called them way in the beginning to make sure. Just waiting for approval. It really is stressful, I really want to get this show on the road. 6 months into this so far. I have a Tele call appointment in January, but if I get my call, I can cancel that appointment, but at this rate I think ill have that appointment lol. I'm planning on calling both places.

  12. I feeling like this is taking forever!. I thought that at my appointment in November that they were going to send in all of my paperwork and every thing I had to complete before those papers got sent to my insurance. But they needed my thyroid levels from the test results I had done by my doctors office which I handed in on December 6th. But now it's a waiting game and it's making me wonder if I should call the bariatric center and ask them about it?

How long did it take everyone to get approved? It's probably just my insurance company but still 😫 I really hope I get approved soon so I can have a good start of the new year! 🤞
