  1. heyy (: , im 18, ive been trying to find young people like myself, im getting my band on july 31st, its been a very long journey so far, my mom was supposed to get it with me, but she hasnt lost all the required weight she was supposed to, i lost mine first so my date is set now, shes getting there though! =] well i dont know if im too old for what youre looking for, but just to let you know i am here whenever you need someone to talk to for support, dont be afraid to ask questions or anything, ill be more than happy to answer them (:

  2. im a 18 year old female, im getting my surgery on the 31st of this month and when i talked to my doctor about it way at the begining, he didnt really like the idea but he still supports me all the way, he sent in his letter of support. the losing the weight part, everyone is different. if you do your part you will lose weight. to me your doctor isnt a very good doctor, but try talking to her, tell her its your decission to get it done and all you need is her letter of support/refferal, if she still doesnt send it in id say search for a new doctor, good luck =]

  3. hi there, great to hear from you. I am not familiar with all the "classes" that seem to be required of you. They sound rather tedious, however try to keep in mind that all these "steps" will help you climb to the top of the mountain (your surgery, which will eventually happen, if you continue along your journey). Try to be more assertive and always ask questions.

As for me, yes, I have some hanging skin, but that is not a major concern for me. Lets see what the summer brings. I haven't worn a bathing suit for years, and my body was never the type to wear one, but I did buy 2 new suits when I was visiting my mom in Florida. She is extreamly critical of me; since the weight loss, she's a lot more tolerant and encouraging.

As for the band, I can not feel the band, but I can feel the port that is located in the center, between my ribcage. I can lay in any position comfortably, including my stomach. I have had 6 fills since my surgery last August and am at my "sweet spot" meaning that I eat small portions and feel full. Keep in touch and let me know whats happening with your progress. Feel free to ask me anything!! Lauslin

The classes are to help understand everything but it's kind of ridiculous because I could have had a date and still go to them I think they're support groups I think for people who are at the same stage maybe :/ I love this website it has all of my questions answered :frown: but when I do have a question day of an appointment I always forget what it was maybe I should write them down huh? Nice, I can't wait to get one myself, hopefully I could wear a bikini and be a more confinedent person! That's great (: So do notice the port like as if you're standing up and walking, do you feel like a normal person like if you didn't have the band? What are the fills like? I know they use the needles, do they numb it? How quick did you start exercising? What kind of exercises did you do? Anywho I lost 15 pounds and I was required to lose 11 so that's good ah I can't think of anything else but I will keep you updated :welldone2:

  4. hii (:

I'm 9 months into this and I haven't gotten my surgery date yet :( but I have been approved to get it done, my next appointment which is a weigh in and then to a class, last class I went to was mindful eating/nutrition and I had an appt schedualed for the 9th for the next class which I think is about exercising I think but I reschedualed it and now it's July 8th, do you think when I go they will give me a surgery date? It kind of makes me upset because I thought I'd have atleast a surgery date by now. Annd when you lay on your stomach can you feel the band? I'm also afraid that I won't wake up , did you get any lose skin, alot? I was told since I'm young I won't have much. Can you feel the band? Is it easier to exercise once you lost all your weight?(congrats by the way)

    Thanks

  5. Hi peoples.

So after this tuesday i have two more appointments to go til i find out about a surgery date..(hope my insurence approves..they covered every thing else by the way) can i ask a few questions? ok if you do all the exercising you're supposed to, will you have a lot of excess skin? that kind of scares me a little bit, because i dont think my insurence would cover for surgery to get it removed..anyways, im getting 2 new piercings(no comments) for my birthday, and they should be healed by the time of surgery date. will i most likely be able to put retainers in them? so i wont have to worrie about them closing up. ill ask my dr. how do you guys feel when you got banded, do you think its the best thing thats happened to you? sorry about it being long, im just still a lil nervous anyways take care peeps =]

  6. hey, i am going on this journey as well, i go back to see the doc. this week on the 13th. This will be my 3rd time seeing them.

    last month i did the testings and they consisted of;

    *Blood work and urinalysis

    *Chest Xrays

    *Abdominal Ultra Sound

*Tested the lungs and the heart

i also talked to the nutrisionist and the exercising trainer

i hope i get the surgery in December after my birthday, or jan/feb, anyways, goodluck! (:

  7. oh man, that stinks =/, so i went there today (to get the tests done) what they did was,1. blood test, 2. nutritionist, 3. physical therapy? well they went over body mass, bmi, and excerizing tips, 4.Went to a part where they checked my heart and lungs, 5. image screening; ultra sound, and chest extray..the nutritionist gave me a "Adjustable Gastric Banding Surgery: Nutrition Guidelines) it explains the meal plan for the lap band what you should eat before, prior, and after sugery. I dont know if you got a packet like that, But yeah I have to make an appointment to go back to get my results, the nutritionist said ill be seeing her two more times before surgery i think and the one for the exercising said she hopes shes sees me before surgery. so im hoping my surgery date is somewhere at the end of december to the begining of jan or the end of jan or even at the end of feb, will find out eventually!

    good luck =D

  8. so i had an evaluation appt. in sept. and now im going to this appt. where there is 10 diff. appts. today i have to be on a fat free diet, and i cant eat or drink anything after 12am, i think they're doin blood work, i know they're doin and ultra sound thing, and run a tredmil, and a bunch of other things, but the real question is, what comes after this appt. i really am curious, did anyone else have an appt. like this?

  9. I have an evaluation appt. on the 11th.

Exactly what do they do at those?

    Do they take measurements?

All i can say is if i'm a good candidate i will be extremely scared,

i mean i'm scared to die when i get it or afterwards. thats all im scared about.

how do i get rid of that feeling?

but im really happy, i will be devistated if i cant get the surgery, my mom thinks i will be a good candidate for this surgery. yeah im 17 yet they have done 17 year olds. 18 in dec btw. so hey thanks (::thumbup:
