Has anyone been able to join the military post-op?
LindsayT replied to mjmjmj2004's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bariatric surgery is a permanent change in your digestive system that requires following a specific diet plan that may interfere with operational deployment. Active duty service members who have bariatric surgery can't re-enlist. Service members who receive bariatric surgery while on active duty may be separated. I found this on the tricare website -

They separate the military member if they get surgery done. I think reversible procedures are OK. -
Do you bruise easily now?
LindsayT replied to SeriouslyChange's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going to revive this. Bruising? What's the deal. I just had my 6th month check with labs November 1 and everything this really good. But I keep getting random bruising, especially on my legs, that are painful and I have no clue how it happened. Is this normal? I have a yearly check with my primary doctor in February and will bring it up then if it hasn't subsided. Thanks in advance for any insight. -
Getting close to goal. Let's talk maintenance
LindsayT posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have about 10 pounds to get to my goal of 150. I was curious about what maintenance looks like. I have an appointment in January to speak to my dietitian, but first-hand experience is always helpful, too. I'm worried about not being able to consume enough calories to maintain. I stopped counting and eating according to what my body is telling me (I'm losing an average of 10lbs a month.) I'm also concerned about reaching my goal weight and gaining a bit back (I've read that's a thing) Is it better to aim for under goal so if I gain it's back, it's where I want to be? Any any insight is much appreciated. -

I know restriction wears off, but man, wouldn't it be nice if it lasted forever. I've definitely changed eating habits, but there are days I want all the not so healthy stuff. -

I'm definitely giving myself grace. 150-155 is my range. And I all too well understand weight fluctuations... hello time of the month. I don't want to get complacent as time goes on. It's terrifying to think about gaining back the weight. For me, I'd get to a weight, get comfortable there, then gain more, get comfortable, etc. I do feel at some point I'll need to start counting again. It's just so annoying to me. I wish there was an easier way to track (I use baritastic). -
What sort of "good problems" you had after WLS
LindsayT replied to omrhsn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Buying clothes and shrinking out of them before I get to wear them. It's a bummer, but hey, it's a good problem. -
I made it past 100 pounds lost! 11 more to go until I get to my goal weight of 150

Has anyone noticed if Premier Portein is the cause of constipation? I'm not a breakfast eater, so I drink 1 each morning. This is my only protein supplement during the day. I'm trying to narrow down if this could be the root of my problem. Thanks! I'm 7 months post-op RNY

I'm constipated. Like really bad. I've taken laxatives (miralax, Smooth Move tea, milk of magnesia and docalax) for the last 3 days. I take a probiotic, Prebiotic, and stool softener regularly. I'm very bloated, some pain, I feel full easily, and just all around yucky. I do have very tiny poops, like the size of a small grape, but thin, like a pencil. This makes me think the laxatives are working, but things can move. Im also very gassy. I'm worried about a partial bowl obstruction, but my symptoms don't all fit. I don't know what to do. I'm 7 months post-op.

I had another post that explains what's been going on. I take daily miralax, stool softener, probiotic and prebiotic. I drink my fluids and eat my fiber. I'm still having issues despite all this. I'm just trying to figure out what's making it worse all of a sudden after MONTHS of the constipation being under control.

The problem is, I was "smooth sailing" Then this happened.

Protein supplements and artificial sweeteners can cause constipation in some people.

I have finally hit the end of my rope with protein supplements. Every thing about them makes me want to [emoji2961] I'm not a food for breakfast eater, I like to drink my breakfast because that's when I take a bulk of my medications. I need good bariatric friendly protein shake/smoothie recipes. I'm willing to put powders or premade shakes in as long as I CANNOT taste it. If you have a good website or cookbook with recipes in it, that'd be nice too. Thanks, everyone!

I do use Fairlife milk if it has something in it, like light start carnation instant breakfast. By itself, it tastes like it's been sitting out too long.

I haven't really been working out. The occasional walk, but mostly life (cleaning, kids ect). I'm very thankful with how everything is turing out. My most favorite part of all this is getting my life back: keeping up with the kids and life, as well as my health.

Thanks! We'll see as more weight comes off. My surgeon was on board with the extra 10 lbs.

Amazing work! My six month was November 1st. I'm down 91 lbs (171). I too changed my goal from 160 down to 150. I'm in a US size 10, which I'm to the point that I need to wash them so they'll fit. I'm expecting to be in an 8 in a few weeks. The loose skin is a minimum, which I'm so happy about. All in all everything this going beautifully and I couldn't be happier.

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first

Same! Even just shaving my legs is so much easier. This has been so life changing. -
Our milk has 8 g of protein per 8 oz. At that amount, I can't use it as a meal replacement. I may looking into milk powder to add to the milk. Thanks!

Thank you! Do you have a brand of protein powder you like? I have some "unflavored" left, but I can still taste it.

Chronic fatigue syndrome and weight loss surgery
LindsayT replied to Rach38's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was diagnosed with fibro before surgery. My pain and fatigue were awful. After surgery, I have zero symptoms. I'm not sure if it was a misdiagnosis or if it was something to do with surgery. My only pain now is the areas I have confirmed arthritis. -
My surgery was May 1. I'm down 88 lbs and I feel great! 14 more to go until I hit my goal.
