NettyD reacted to SnowyWinter in They cancelled my 8/15 surgery, after I expressed my concerns!
Thank you all for your mind words, and yes, I did dodge a bullet - it just took me a few days to see it. Tuesday the nurse called me and told me she was keeping me off the schedule as a final decision. I was so despondent. I kept logging into my patient portal, where I could still see my procedure scheduled, and hoping perhaps this was some last bluff on their part. But it's definitely been cancelled.
I couldn't go to work yesterday as I was sobbing most of the day. I went into see my primary care doctor, thinking the visit was to get some help for my anxiety, but she encouraged me to not let this crazy experience deter me.
I have a consult with another sugeon on 8/23. I will NOT give up hope! Thank you all. I now know this is a blessing in the end!

NettyD reacted to thinoneday in I’m back after 13 years!
Hello all. I’ve been away a very long time. I had my surgery in 2009. The journey has been very interesting. I kept it off for 9 years. Then it started to creep up again. So heartbreaking BUT on April 27, 2022 I got on the scale and noticed I was up to 291 lbs. I had gained 91 lbs! I started a 1200 calorie diet and exercise plan that day and have been on it ever since. To date I’ve lost 51 lbs. it’s so hard but with determination and wanting to get back to where I was I’m getting there. What I want to throw out there, don’t take your tool as a magic wand. Really work to chance your habits and lifestyle and it’ll be all worth it. I’m glad to be back if y’all will have this old chicken

I spoke to my nutritionist and I’ve never been so wrong. Omg. I’m focusing on Protein which is right. But I wasn’t paying attention to the carb and fat content on items. 20 carbs or less. 10 grams of fat, sugar or less. And they would like 10 grams or more of protein per meal/product.
And I’ve gone over the recommended amount of protein once which according to the nutritionist means I’m grazing 🥹 My grazing is work related because I can’t really sit still so I take a few bites and before I know it’s been two hours of taking a few bites. I was told to remind myself to be selfish. I was also told I need a half a cup of vegetables with my 30 minute meal.
This is overwhelming for me friends. I’m struggling with the getting enough protein in during every meal already. Now I have to include veggies. Take calcium chews and watch out for too much carb fat and sugar. Ever since the last appointment Im only at 30 grams of protein a day. I am completely thrown for a loop.

NettyD reacted to CarmenG in EXCITED!
Just a lil rave... As of this morning, I am officially down my first 50 lbs! I had a 3-week stall 2 weeks after my surgery. I had issues with my skin, with Constipation, and this horrible stall. Because it's a revision, my weight loss is incredibly s-l-o-w (compared to virgin surgeries). I was so disappointed, having buyer's remorse, and all that. I've only lost 20 lbs in 45 days, but altogether (including my pre-op dieting) it's 50 whole pounds since May 11th!

I just wanted to say how incredible your attitude is in the face of unexpected challenges. It's not easy when the money card gets thrown into the mix, and the fact that you're pushing forward despite the quoted amount difference shows your unwavering commitment to this journey.

NettyD reacted to sleeveme17 in Money money money
I went for my pre-op today and they decide to play the money card.. I was taken back of the amount that was quoted differently than first. So the lady asked me .. do you still want to do it! It took everything that I had to tell her that I've come to far and will do what I have to do to make this happen. My heart rate was trying to come up and then a still small voice came over me (The Lord) and said trust. Pre-op ️ pre op diet.. Thursday and surgery March 7! I need some March cheerleaders to help me/us stay focused on this new life GOAL! Ain't no stopping us now ...

NettyD reacted to SleeveToBypass2023 in Gastric bypass over 20 years
I had the revision to bypass and I wish I had just done the bypass to begin with. I can definitely tell you things are a lot different now than they were 20 years ago. I have no dumping at all (was hoping I would, but nope) but I have virtually no hunger, which I love. There was almost no down time, almost no pain, and there's a HARD STOP when eating. No wiggle room like with the sleeve. The bypass is really the best surgery there is. In my humble opinion.

NettyD reacted to The Greater Fool in Torn between counting carbs or counting calories
Most post-op diet plans I see here seem like standard weight loss diets. Some of them seem quite draconian.
My surgeon's philosophy was different. From the very beginning he stressed that I was learning a new way of eating. This was a new way for me, but most rational people would view as "healthy" and nothing much out of the ordinary. This would be for the rest of my life. As I said in my previous post, I didn't count things in my plan beyond basic meal planning: Protein first then some veggies.
I started at what most here would call a "maintenance diet." In the first 6 weeks, it was no different than my most recent 6 weeks, other than the food was pureed. When I reached goal, nothing changed.
I had no desire nor inclination to live the rest of my life dieting.
Good luck,
Tek

I’m still in pre op and my nutrition team want us to focus on Protein first and build our meal around protein and Portion Control. They do not want us to focus on calorie counting.

NettyD reacted to Chel1 in REVISION SURGERY in 3 days!
@Shaqsback! Hi! By now you would have had your surgery. How are you doing thus far? My doctor informed me that weight loss is possible and that I will have to work at it. I would say we have 6 weeks of liquid to pureed to soft foods on LCD so we should take advantage! I don't need more sagging skin so hopefully I can walk on the treadmill and when I can do some light weight training to avoid this.
My surgery is in 2 days! Monday 8/28
Give updates when you can. My sleeve was in 2017

NettyD reacted to waterlily1072 in It's been a while...
It has been so long since I've been here, most of you probably have no clue who I am. But I have a story to tell. For those of you just starting out or for those veterens out there. It doesn't matter how long you've been banded you can always start fresh and make your band work for you. I lost 75lbs my first year and then tragedy struck, my mom died way too young of cancer, and well I learned how to eat around my band and even had it unfilled in 2007. Last November (2009) I was finally ready to work at it again, I got my first fill in what seemed like forever but I had gained back 45lbs. Today I am 5lbs away from the 100lbs lost mark! Don't give up out there, you can do it too! Don't let anyone tell you that you're a failure because you are a winner! So go WIN!!!

I had my surgery yesterday (8/22) with minimal pain. The worst part of this is the trapped gas. It was extremely difficult to sleep at night because the gas pain was so bad. I had to walk around my apartment complex to get enough relief to go to sleep. Overall I'm doing pretty well
