I had my RNY on Thursday morning & was discharged from the hospital today. So far, so good. I didn't experience any gas pain at all, primarily just intense ab muscle pain...but only when I move. It's definitely gotten much better since Thursday afternoon and now broadly feels like I did way too many sit ups.
I didn't have any last minute second thoughts and have zero regrets.
    Now the real work starts.

Congrats on your surgery day! I had an option for a 10/2 surgery day but I got the soonest date available which is 9/26. I start my pre op diet on 9/11 too. I’m sure you’ll get some folks to respond to this thread. Good luck on your surgery and journey 🙏🏾🙌🏽

I had the sleeve on the 5th and I too began to second guess my decision up until the night before surgery. I did have an extended hospital stay due to nausea and my heart rate being too low for a couple of days post op. Other than that recovery is going well. You just have to remember to take it easy and listen to your body. I had my first follow up visit yesterday and my surgeon said I am healing well. The hardest part has been making sure to drink as much as possible. Good luck with upcoming surgery 🙂

Let's try this again. I was booked for my RNY for Aug 28 and after waiting in the hospital in my gown & booties for 5 hours, it was cancelled due to an emergency trauma case. Tomorrow is my new day, arrival at 6:00am, surgery at 8:00am.
    Let's gooo!

I had my VSG on Wednesday morning, spent one night in the hospital and then was discharged Thursday in the AM. I'm doing ok, having moments of nausea, cramping and foaming in the mouth like my saliva glands suddenly kicked into overdrive. I'm doing well with getting Water in and started with full liquids today. As many suggested, walking around has helped with gas pains and cramping. I'm hanging in there.

Was sleeved 9/5 and was discharged 9/8. I was kept for observation due to pain, nausea, and low heart rate. The gas pain was no fun, that has subsided and now it’s just abdominal/incision pain. The hardest part is making sure I’m getting in Protein and fluids. I found a Premier Protein peaches and cream shake that I love. Most smells turn my stomach but this doesn’t. Has anyone been experiencing dizziness during recovery?

    Hello All-
I just had my vertical sleeve and hiatal hernia repaired on the 7th.
I’m not sure if I was quite prepared for the gas pain and big incision pain.
I just have to keep reminding myself that I’m a work in progress and that the pain is temporary. It is slowly easing.

    Best wishes to all-
    JD

Two days post- op from my gastric bypass. The abdominal pain is the worst part particularly in bed finding a good sleeping position. I don’t take pain meds at night but they probably would help. Sipping Water and getting Proteins in is a full time job but I’m getting the hang of it. My favorite drinks so far have been the Unjury vanilla premade drink and the unjury chicken Soup. I plan to try yogurt with unflavored Protein Powder in the next few days.

Best wish to everyone wherever you are in the journey!

Hey all, sleeve done on Sep 6 and am home. Not sure if it's gas or just cramping or nausea but definitely not a fun feeling lol.
Abdominal wall pain is more than I expected but trying to get up and walk through that pain.
    Hoe everyone is doing well!!

I practice eating a couple prunes every day, I think it helps keep everything moving. But yes the couple weeks after surgery are tough, and really tough stool and Constipation, to be expected by all. But once you start eating solid foods again, it becomes normal once again. Still you have to think you are eating so much less than you used to. So if you want to stay on a regular schedule. I recommend prunes if you like eating them, and benefiber or something similar if you wanna add another supplement.

NettyD reacted to Arabesque in Constipation 😭😭
Oh yeah the Constipation. I swear I never thought about, read about, wrote about, talked about constipation as much as I did for the first years after surgery. You can add some Benefibre to your shake to help with the constipation. Ensure you’re getting in your fluids or are close to your goal. And as @catwoman7 suggested a stool softener or other laxative medication. Start with a gentle one & see how you go. But it’s too be expected that you don’t need to go every day in the first months. You’re not eating a lot & therefore don’t have that much to poop out.
Your weight loss is never consistent @Siberian1. If you graph it you’ll notice it goes up & down, zigs & zags, & sometimes is a straight line. This is just how it goes. A lot of factors influence your weight from Fluid retention, pooping or not pooping, hormones, drinking a little more or a little less, etc. As long as your general trend is downwards you’re doing okay. If the numbers on the scale are messing with you step away from the scales. Weigh yourself once a week or fortnight or even monthly.

Here is my suggestion for a natural breakfast smoothie with around 25g Protein, which does not rely on protein powder and can be made dairy-free:
1/2 c Greek yogurt or soft tofu (about 10g protein)
1 Tbsp hemp seeds (3g protein)
12 oz milk or soy milk (12g protein)
2-3 oz frozen spinach (gets you some veggies!)
4-5 oz your frozen fruits (tastes yummy!)
Blend, blend, blend, and you're done.
I'm pre-op but this is what I have been having every morning for the past month or so, along with a big lunch salad with chick peas, black Beans, and salmon in it. I like that smoothies don't require a lot of thinking and have no added sugar or anything artificial. Personally, I add a scoop of whey for an additional 21g protein, so if your nutritionist is cool with that, I highly recommend it. You could do pea protein if you can't do dairy. I honestly don't see many ways to reach those goals given the restrictions you've been given and how little you can eat right now, so definitely talk to the nutritionist for a reality check on those numbers!

Your plan is not that different from my plan. 3 meals of 3-4oz Protein + 1oz veggies, no Snacks, no Protein Drinks. The idea is learning to eat like a healthy person. It took me several months to be able to complete a meal somewhat regularly.
Unfortunately for your Surgeon, the math doesn't really work out. There is no way you will get to 80g of protein on this plan, nor do you need that much. 60oz is more than enough for a healthy person. Depending on your size even less may be OK.
Regardless, just do the best you can. You can only fill a cup so much. You will manage.
All these years later, this is still my eating plan. It just comes naturally now. Still don't manage to eat everything much of the time.
    Good luck,
    Tek

Most surgeons will not be much help in regard to what you need to be eating post op. Please check in with a bariatric dietician to sort out your food choices.
You can have eggs. You can have baked Beans. You can have a fillet of fish with vegies. You can have custard and that will count to your Protein. You can add Protein Powder to your shakes. You can have smoothies with protein powder in. You can even add protein powder to tea and coffee.
I am adding a link to a site in Australia that sells Tasteless protein powder. https://costpricesupplements.com.au/tasteless-protein-collagen-500g-by-feel-good-protein/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=tasteless_protein&utm_term=tasteless%20protein%20powder&utm_content=138100867419&gclid=CjwKCAjwr_CnBhA0EiwAci5siq4K5LLhUSBAsPkQkza1QEg4FXhXg6aTlkA9D1xJdMOKSZAsupmjmBoCoVUQAvD_BwE It will end up cheaper for you with the exchange rate.
Hope that the bariatric dietician can expand your food choices.

I can relate to that mindset. I used to kid people pre-op that all I had to do was look at food and gain weight. And it was kind of true.
But now after your WLS and sticking to the doc's plan, you will see the results on the scale. Fears will subside. Mine did.
    GL going forward.

It really is! I've lost (and gained and lost again) 100lbs since I started this whole thing, but I have PCOS and "fat folk genes" as my PCP says 😂
I know Now that if I had been approved for surgery 10 years ago, I likely would have not done very well or would have been someone that lost the weight but ended up having a drinking problem or something. The last few years has really given me a lot of time to regroup my mind, heel childhood trauma, and figure out exactly why I use food as a coping mechanism.
