I just want something that tastes good
Fred in Pa replied to LindsayT's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Welcome to the other side! i’ll just reiterate what the others have said, it just takes time. As your body adjusts and heals things will get better. The human body is a remarkable thing. It will find its way and take you along with it, lol. Hang in there, keep drinking and get your protein in. Right now think of it as just being a machine who needs to do these things to heal. Taste will come later. -
White Coat Anxiety…any help besides finding my happy place?! 😂🫣☺️🙏🏾
Fred in Pa replied to theProcess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello and welcome! Just try to remember why you are doing this. The surgery it’s just another milestone that you must get through in your journey. It is not the end, but the beginning. As tomo suggests, maybe they can give you something even before you get to the hospital to relax you assuming you have a driver. It also comforts me to know that many, many people have gone through the same process and have gotten through it, so if they can, you can. Think about all of those people in their journeys, and realize that yours is similar. you’ve got this! -
I bought a HidrateSpark water bottle. A bit pricey but worth it. It pairs to your smart phone and tracks your water consumption by ounces in real time. It sends reminders and visually alerts you to drink. https://hidratespark.com

Burning/pulling/stinging pain
Fred in Pa replied to Shanna NYC's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yup, its quite normal. Mine was when I was in bed and rolled over...my belly would pull a bit and Id get the stinging/burning pulling. Mr Dr said it was a combination of things. Sutures, healing, scare tissue...but was all normal. Like yours, mine was NOT near the incisions and was NOT consent. Mine went away in about 1-2 weeks...all now gone. -
You answered your own question. More food in, no food out. Your intestines are filling back up with food and water. Its normal…and will stabilize as you adjust and go through food phases.

Terrible pain incision site
Fred in Pa replied to Livelles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, 20 days out in that much pain doesn’t sound right. I’m surprised your GP said everything looked good and didn’t address the pain issue. Maybe you should ask your GP to contact your team on your behalf, Dr to Dr? Or call your team and insist there is an issue and demand to be seen. -
Pre-op diet and no longer hungry?
Fred in Pa replied to LindsayT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very normal… That is why most people lose about 10 pounds on the pre-diet. Enjoy! -
Pre-Op Diet Hell
Fred in Pa replied to SleeveMeAlone23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m about eight weeks out and the withdrawals are real. The preop diet sends you through the physical withdrawals. After surgery you go through the mental withdrawals. Missing the pleasure of simply eating food in larger quantities, experiencing the tastes over and over, as opposed to simply having 5 to 6 ounces per meal is a real kick in the mental gut. But the alternative is a life of being fat, increased, comorbidities, and a life of fat misery. Does your surgery team offer any counseling? If so, it might be good to talk to someone. I know I am thinking about it myself due to the mourning and mental withdrawals of my food addictions. It is my opinion, and just mine, that this represents the hardest part of this entire journey and is what ultimately leads to failure and the regaining of weight. I wish you all the best as it is definitely worth it on the other side. -
It does get a bit easier after day 4 or so. Your body adjusts, headaches ease. The good part is the weight loss. Mine was 10lbs in 10 days. I’m sure yours will be good with the longer 14 days. Try finding distractions….

How long did it take for your incision area not to hurt?
Fred in Pa replied to Nyxienoodles's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m 7-8 weeks out and still get a pinch every now and then. Mostly in bed when I roll over and my stomach kind of pulls. My surgeon said it’s normal. Scar tissue forming and pulling. My incisions are healed but still tender. Nerve like feelings around them as the cut nerves heal. My wife had abdominal surgery 5 years ago and experienced the same thing. I think you’re fine… -
Yup, you seem to be on the normal track. Im 6 weeks out and just now getting some energy back.

Two days post op
Fred in Pa replied to erikamurphy1214@gmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a SADI… I think you will be fine. The restriction will limit you to about 600-1000 calories per day. That will create a calorie deficit. Weight will come off. -
Anyone taking ozempic after having surgery?
Fred in Pa replied to Vicky Sue's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
One of the reasons I had surgery was to get off medication’s. In my opinion, this stuff is just poison. The side effects are considerable and the weight loss temporary as you will regain once you go off the medication. -
2 weeks post op, is a 5oz Oikos too much?
Fred in Pa replied to mcipanda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it’s fine, I eat them all the time. I’m 4 weeks out. I can eat 5-6oz in a meal w/out issue. -
I bought a large binder with dividers and kept everything organized. Test results, meeting notes, program details, Dr appts, daily weights, diets, to do lists, etc. I took it to every meeting, appt. This may help…

Have you tried an enema? That may clear the impaction and get the trains moving again.

Restarting Vitamins
Fred in Pa replied to hills&valleys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found chewable without iron. I’m adding iron later. They are Celebrate multi-ADEK. Can be bought here in store. While I am ok taking pills, these are like a little treat after a meal. -
Prayers for you and s speedy recovery to normal…

I take a seasoned tuna packet with crushed cannelloni beans…very yummy. Mix in some low fat mayo. Starkist has tuna creation packets and our local had sesame with ginger tuna packets.

Did your team give you a pre-op plan? Mine was liquid with a small meal for dinner; 3-4oz protein, 1/4 cup carb/starch, unlimited non-starch veggies. That was days 1-9. Day 10 was 100 liquids.

So, out of surgery, they gave me Dilaudid. Second day in hospital was Toridol. I was sent home with Oxycodone. They said the oxy was for the nerve pain. I was also told to take 1000mg of Tylenol every 4-6 hours and not to miss a dose, let it build up. The Tylenol was for the muscle cramps and pressure. There is regular liquid Tylenol you may want to try. I was off the Oxy quick as I had no incision pain and didn’t want to get constipated as narcotics slow your digestion. I kept up with the Tylenol for a few more days until pressure subsided. By day 3-4, on nothing for pain. The gas-x I still take as the broths, protein shakes, etc can give gas. I take one in both am and pm. They also recommended Colace to keep stool soft.

Relationship with food post op
Fred in Pa replied to Jnpxo2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
LOTS OF GOOD INFO ABOVE… I’ll just add, I plan to try to create better “habits”. Read up on habits, it’s very interesting how the mind works. Use the time of reduced hunger to form new habits. Like omrhsn says above, explore new foods that are healthy. Make finding new foods and ways to prepare a hobby/habit. Or maybe geek out a bit with journaling, logging, charting your food and food weights, recipes, body measurements, eating times, etc. Make this a habit.
