    Only 3 days post-op..........

Walking is good, and I did not say to not walk. I said be sure an not over due it. I went to the mall the day after surgery and that was too much. I took lots of short walks, and it does make you feel better, but you have to know your limits. I felt the best when I rested for about an hour btwn each little walk.

    Only 3 days post-op..........

I am only on fluids. My doctor has me drinking protein shakes that have 35 grams and Isopure waters have 40 grams of protein. You can have thicker shakes or soups. Nothing chunky. I get the creamy soups and then add 2/3 cup non-fat powdered milk. it has 8 grams of protein in 1/3 cup. My dietitian advised this could be done with oatmeal and yogurt also when you are on mushy foods. Don't pay extra for high protein when you can do it yourself for less. I find that the soups fill me up longer. I also try to drink water constantly btwn meals so I don't get head hunger either.

    Only 3 days post-op..........

I am almost 2 weeks post op. I was banded in Elkhart, IN on 9-8. I have very little restriction and get hungry all the time. I am trying to drink lots of water to hold off the hunger btwn meals. I don't have a schedule, I just eat about every 4 hours for 20 mins 3 times a day. I drink Isopure for one of my meals. I make sure that the anything that goes in my mouth for a meal has at least 7 grams of protein. I bought some instant soup from my doctor's office, as well as I have shakes. I am hoping to get my first fill next week.

    Feeling Discouraged!

Soover, don't let the hunger deter you. I have been on liquids for 2 weeks prior to surgery and then it could be as long as 3 weeks after. The nurses all say it is in my head. I am hungry and don't feel much restriction but when I start eating, I definately can not take in much. I have resorted to drinking lots of water btwn meals. I have not did much, but a few days I have over did and that was worse than anything. I don't recommend going to the mall the day after surgery even if you have someone pushing you in a wheelchair.

    Feeling Discouraged!

For Liquid diet, I have been having protein shakes, Isopure water, and broth or bullion. I have added in high protein pudding as it is smooth also. I have to drink (per dr orders) 64oz of fluids everyday. I am trying to make every drink count.

    Feeling Discouraged!

I have too much gas pain to really exercise. They put the port on top of my ribs and the gas is right under. I am having trouble taking deep breaths due to this. I have been walking, however very slow and controled. I know the energy will come back. I have been taking in one Isopure a day as well as high protein soup, and lots of water. I am getting about 65-75g of protein a day. I thank you all for the good advice. It will be used believe me. I see the doctor today for my post-op appt. I am going to see if I can go on pureed food yet. I am starving all the time, and the nurse told me to get and keep busy. HA HA HA HA it is hard when you feel as though you have broken ribs.

    Feeling Discouraged!

I was banded on 9-8-08. I am having lots of gas pain and have no energy either. I am starving to death!!! Liquid diets do suck, but it is for our own good. I have been walking a lot, but not able to do much due to the extreme gas pain. I feel your pain definately!

    What comes pre-op...???

It all depends on what your doctor and your insurance require. Mine did not ask for the 6 months with the family doctor but I did it just in case. You should definately contact your insurance and see what they tell you they require, ( it will be different than what they tell your doctor).

    What comes pre-op...???

I did not have to do the sleep studies, however it did take me a longer than 2 months to get this all done. I had to see my family doc for 6 months straight, loose weight to get to a bmi of btwn 45 and 50, get a psychiatric consult, see the dietician 2 times and have a nurse teaching session. In all it took me 7 months. I am scheduled to be banded on 9-8-08. Good luck to you!

    Just banded-Introduction

Hello, I am in Northern Indiana and have not had the surgery yet. I am about to start the shake and bar diet before surgery. I am looking for a good protein water to take the place of Isopure, due to it being so pricey. My surgery is scheduled for 9/8/08. Any tips for finding protein waters are welcome.
