I was just thinking maybe this was an option. I wonder if you should check with a pharmacist first. I know it’s just Vitamins but if they absorb differently that way an overdose of some Vitamins can cause issues?? Better safe than sorry I guess. Ask your team first though because I was swallowing my pills in the hospital. Not huge ones, but not tiny either. I was able to do the chewable vitamins and did those for a few months but I THINK I could’ve swallowed the Vitamin if I had needed to.

Yes I am going to check. My Gallbladder pill is the only capsule but all others are chewable/ dissolving. And he told me to start all of them right after I leave the hospital. LOL That totally doesnt make sense.

Hello, glad your recovery is going well.

As far as the sweetness, you can try to add more milk to the shakes or even Water. This will thin them out and cut the sweetness. Or, as @ShoppGirl mentioned try clear Protein Drinks which you can also add Water to cut the sweetness. I liked gatorade zero with Protein the best but it was sweet.

In the liquid stages, my shakes and everything counted as liquids. So your shake is counted towards your liquids and your Protein. Again, thinning it out adds more liquid to your count too.

It is hard to hit your goal only a week out. I hit my protein and fluid goals around 2 weeks and have been able to maintain them since. You will get in a groove and be hitting goals before you know it, be patient.

OHHH those chewable vitamins are the absolute worse. I couldn't get past the smell, let alone the taste and texture. It was horrible, I worked with my team. I tried every brand and flavor I could found, all gross and I wasted so much money. They were not that concerned, at my 2 week follow up the surgeon cleared me to take pills/capsules as long as I could handle them. I was fine and have been taking capsules ever since. Maybe reach out to your team and ask for help.

Thanks so much! I will try to add more water to the Premier Water I have. And yes, I definitely reached out to my team about the Multivitamins. LOL glad I'm not alone regarding those nasty pills. :)

I thought the shakes tasted to sweet as well. Try the clear Protein waters. These should count as Fluid and Protein and while they are sweet they didn’t taste overly sweet like the shakes did. I didn’t realize now many options of clear protein there are. You could start with what they sell at your convenience store so you can try a single. I splurged and for a case of premiere protein clear and luckily I liked it. Once you get to purées you can add unflavored protein to things if necessary or purchase some of the protein Soups. I didn’t do either of these, just kept doing shakes as well but I’m sure others will have suggestions on specific products.

Thank you! I've purchased the clear peach protein Water. I will check if they have an unflavored one. I definitely have the unflavored Protein Powder ready for when I am able to go on to puree. Thank you!!!

  4. Hi all,

I am one week post op (Sleeved on 10/11/22). I am feeling like I cant get in the rythm of what is right for me.

    Pros:

    - Been getting all fluids down

    - Have not had much pain, only where they pulled stomach out

-Been able to walk and move around

    - Only had gas pain for 3 days

    -Normal bowl movement

    Cons:

    - I don't like the taste of sweetness. So I am having a hard time getting my Protein in from shakes and protein Water. Any recommendations for other sources of protein?

-I've been able to have some strained soup/ broth. But I am only able to take like 4 table spoons over an hour. How is it expected to get all protein in while trying to get water in as well through out the day?

    - The Bariatric Advantage Multi Vitamins are terrible. I am not able to take them so I started taking 4 flinstone Vitamins a day. I know these are not good enough for a person who just had bariatric surgery. I am taking my gallstones pills, Calcium, Iron, and b-12 with no problem. Are there any other recommendations for Bariatric Multivitamins? Smaller or better tasting?

Any input is appreciated. I feel that protein and supplements are very important with the new change to my body.

    Thanks guys!!!

I had no gas pain and my doctor insisted that I get up and walk every now and then which I did. My brother set a timer and would wake me up to take a walk around the hospital ward every 30 mins or so which helped a lot. My sister who had her surgery three weeks before me didn't walk that much and had some gas pain. The doctor gave her some suppositories which helped a lot. Good luck and I hope all goes well with the surgery.

Thanks for your response! Good luck on your journey as well💪🏽

How low is low? How tall are you & what’s your BMI?

I was 200lbs but at only 5’3 my BMI was 35. I lost all my weight and more. Got to my goal in 6 months & lost another 11+kgs over the next 11 months or so. I maintained at about 49kgs for a year. I put on 2kgs in a month because of a necessary dietary change & a change of a med & have been sitting at about that 51kg for almost 10 months

There have been posters here who started with BMIs of less than 35 & had the surgery because of existing health issues & they were able to lose weight.

The main difference between people with higher starting weights & those with lower is that those at a higher weigh lose more quickly at first. But their rate of loss slow as they lose weight just like everyone else.

Recovery is an individual thing - just how your body reacts to the surgery & heals. Nothing really to do with your weight as such but existing health factors may influence your recovery. Some people who carry a lot of weight in their abdominal area sometimes struggle with more discomfort when getting up & down & generally moving as the weight around their tummy pulls at the internal & external surgical sites. A binder is often helpful as it supports the tummy & abdominal muscles.

Thank you for your info! Very helpful and made me understand better. I am 5’2 and my BMI is 38.

I am 5’4” and was 200 lbs. when I got my sleeve in 2020. I got down to 146 and have pretty much maintained that weight for a year. I would love to lose another 10 lbs but, I confess, I don’t exercise quite as much as I could, and the nutritionist suggested light weight training, Someday…..

Thank you!! Was your journey hard and slow?

  8. If I didn't have a history of all other weigh loss medications failing I would be convinced not to get the surgery. But I am too far along in the process (surgery on 10/11/22) to stop now. It is the best weight loss medication I've ever experienced. I've recommended to everyone who isn't ready for surgery and I will take it again with a heartbeat LOL.

  9. What has been your experience with going into surgery with a weight of 205lbs or under? My starting weight was 220 but I've lost 15 pounds pre op. I've heard people smaller will not loose any weight. Going into surgery smaller what is the recovery like?

(I am doing this surgery because I've tried everything to loose weight and live a better lifestyle)

  10. I am scheduled to have my surgery on October 11th. I've been hearing the gas pain is the worst and only pain. Worse than the scar pain. This makes me nervous being close to my heart. I heard it feels as if you may be experiencing a heart attack. How bad is the pain? Do you feel pain in stomach from the staples? Do you feel more pain from the incisions? I am really nervous!
