  1. Hello, This is actually my first post on this forum. However, I lurk quite often. A little about myself. I am a 24 year old female/wife/mother of a 2 year old. I am scheduled to have the band placed 3/20/09. I am scared. Part of me feels selfish for doing this. I keep thinking that if something goes wrong my daughter will be left without a mother. I have attempted for years to drop the weight only to fail. I also have Ulcerative Colitis and am worried that the band might make things worse. It is scary not knowing how things might turn out. I know that I do need to drop the weight. I know that most individuals on here were placed on a liquid diet before surgery. My doctor has not placed me on a particular diet, just Clear liquids 48hrs prior to surgery. I have been attempting on my own to drop weight before surgery in order to shrink my liver. However, I always manage to sabotage myself and say " I will try again tomorrow". I have 5 days before surgery. If I attempt all liquids before surgery will it make my liver a bit smaller?
  2. I am 10 days post op and it was my first day back at work. My boss asked me to do something during my lunch break and I had to eat my lunch kinda fast ( 2oz mushie chicken and green beans). I returned home from work and again ate my food fast (2oz mushie chicken). I did not experience any pain or discomfort. I have learned my lesson. I do not want to damage my band. Could doing this cause damage to my band even though I did not feel any discomfort?

    Dealing with emotions

I had a similar post like this a few days ago. I thought I was emotionally ready for the change after surgery. However, I was not. Food was my cover up and now it was gone. I still have the issues to deal with but I have found exercising when I feel hungry helpful. I got that advice from someone on here. I find that after a few minutes of exercise food is no longer needed to comfort me.

    Did I make a mistake

Thanks everyone for replying. I just do not want anything to mess up my band. I see this surgery is a great blessing and my last chance to make things right.
  5. I was banded March 20th. Ever since the surgery I am having a difficult time consuming my 60oz of water. I am only able to drink 25oz of bottle water a day. I was told to drink 4oz every 30mins. However, I just feel stuffed. I am scared of stretching out my pouch. Should I be worried about liquid stretching my pouch or just solid food? I know this is a stupid question.

    Water

I actually love to drink water. Prior to the surgery I would drink tons of water. That is why I am so concerned because I know I am not drinking as much as I should. What everyone is saying makes sense. I guess as I heal I will be able to drink more water.

  8. I am 6 days post-op and down 20lbs. While I am happy with my loss I am sad. I did not realize how much food occupied my time. Food has soothed so much of my pain for so many years. Now I have nothing to cover things up/ to make things better. I am actually feeling depressed. I am forced to just be with my emotions for the first time in a long time. The crazy thing is....I am not hungry but I want food so bad. I did not expect this to happen to me. This journey will be about more than just getting healthy physically but mentally.

    Emotions

Thanks everyone for replying. I think counseling would be a great thing for me. It is funny what you said about watching the food network. I have never watched that channel before or had any interest. However, yesterday I found myself watching it all day. This forum has been a big help to me and I am grateful for the responses.
  10. I am 5 days post-op and am down 17lbs. I went for my follow up today and the doctor was looking at me like I was crazy, like I did something wrong. Did anyone else drop this much weight this fast? Personally, I am happy about it . However, I do know that the weight loss will slow once I introduce more food. Right now I am having all liquids, creamy soup, and oat meal.

    Wth!!!

Thanks everyone. I just really thought I would have got a different response from him. It is nice to know that you guys can relate.
  12. Do you think it would be a good idea to join weight watchers until I can have my one on one consultation. I have read that sometimes the insurance company will require you to try another diet program before being approved. I have been on optifast for 3 months. If I switch to weight watchers for another 3 would I be covered?
  13. Just wondering if anyone has been approved for WLS and suffer from Colitis? I was diagnosed with colitis 4 years ago. However, I have not had any issues and take no medications for the past 3 years. My insuance is CareFirst Bule Cross Blue Shield Open Access. I live in Maryland if anyone could suggest a doctor who might perform the procedure with my diagnosis I would like to hear from you.
