tx2az got a reaction from HeatherE in Help! VSG or Bypass
VSG Surgery in scheduled for Sept 1, 2022. 4 years ago I started having a lot of gastric problems. Random and often
vomiting, severe diarrhea, heartburn, indigestion, etc. I had 2 colonoscopies and 2 endoscopes. Finally, diagnosed with gastritis and microscopic colitis but no reasons why those happened. I took lots of different meds, changed when and what I ate, etc. Nothing worked. It was so bad I was afraid to even leave my house at times. I went to a bariatric/general surgeon about a VSG. He ended up being just who I needed to help solve my huge gastric problem. At first, he said I would probably need to get a bypass instead of the VSG because he thought I may have had GERD/reflux. He sent me for another endoscope and discovered from the last endoscope (a year before) I had newly developed a hiatal hernia, stomach ulcers, and deformed pyloric. Did some more tests and found my stomach acid was about 5 times too much. My pancreas was not able to produce enough of the necessary stuff to neutralize the stomach acid traveling through the intestines, which in turned cause the gastritis and severe diarrhea. The bypass leaves a still somewhat function stomach so I will get VSG instead since it removes a large portion of the acid producing fundus. I will also get a repair for the hiatal hernia and pyloric. I am so thankful to my doctor for finding my gastric problems and explaining to me in a way I could understand. AND lose the weight, too! I ended up not having GERD/reflux at all, even I develop due to the VSG, I think I can handle it! Thanks for listening to my story!

Hi, September Surgery Buddies. I was wondering if you all minded if I joined your group. My surgery was pushed from August 8th to August 29th so I’m right at the tail end of the month. My recovery will be in September. I’m having a revision from VSG to RNY due to a hiatal hernia and severe GERD. I’m currently in my pre-op/ liquid diet stage. My Starting weight before VSG: 275, My CW: 207, My height: 5’9”, GW: 150. 😊

Thanks everyone for your responses. Definitely following whatever my dr says. There are so many varied requirements by doctors for before and after surgery, especially the pre-op diet that I have read on here. Not comparing, just wondering.

I woke up with one on and it’s been very helpful and at times annoying & irritating.

If your team doesn’t recommend one and you feel like maybe you want to wear one, ask them why they aren’t recommending one. They may have a very good reason for it and following your teams plan is always best.

    Best of luck!

I woke up from surgery with a stomach binder on. I was told that it was for my comfort and I could remove it or put it back on as desired. I didn’t have a lot of pain post op and I took it off when I got home from hospital and didn’t notice a big difference but have heard people on here say it helped them a great deal. They do sell them on Amazon but I agree with above post that you should probably ask your surgeon first.

Your medical team's answer, actually, is the only answer that matters.
What we say, as you know, strangers on the internet, should not matter to you at all.
But, you do you, I guess.
    Good luck,
    Tek

Has anyone been told they will use a compression garment after Sleeve surgery? I asked my dr nurse and she said the dr would decide after my surgery.

Once you create it, there's a button on the tickers page that says "Add to signature".

I don't remember the exact steps, but I just clicked on the my tickers in that drop down menu and picked the background and picked the turtle as the walker. Now if I click on the my ticker drop down it brings up a page with my ticker and some codes to paste if I wanted and a create ticker box in the upper right. Maybe you just have to complete it? Not sure and sorry I'm not much help.

Thanks for the welcome! I have made some changes. I have really changed portion sizes and snacking habits. The biggest changes are just trying to be more mindful of food choices, eating slower and chewing food longer.
