  1. Thanks guys for the support. It's good to know you guys have done it. I'm worried about cheating, but I think if I set my mind to it, I'll be OK. I'm ready for this!
  2. Hey there!! I'm scheduled for surgery November 13th. My question is if any of you are doing a pre op diet? My surgeon only wants me to be Clear liquids 24 hours prior to surgery. I've heard about others doing a week or 2 week diet prior to surgery. I've heard people doing just liquid diet, others doing low carb diet, and what I'm wondering what do you guys do. I'm thinking about doing the liquid diet on the 8th. -- That gives me 6 days of a liquid diet. What are you guys doing?
  3. So after much waiting, I finally found out today I was approved from the insurance company for the lapband. My surgery date is November 13th. Friday the 13th... creepy. LOL I don't care what day it is, I've been ready for this day a long time.

    Any November 2009 Bandsters??

I just found out from my surgeons office that I was approved for surgery, and I'm scheduled for November 13th!!! Yay!!! I feel like I've been waiting forever on this. I'm ready for a new life. GO NOVEMBER BANDSTERS!

    Almost there!

So I've done all the testing!!! They just sent in all my paperwork to the insurance company yesterday. They said I should find out by the end of the week if I got approved or not. I'm so nervous. Will let you know what happens!
  6. So I've done all the requirements for the surgery. I've had the consultation, had all the labs, tests, evals, etc. However, the one thing holding me back is my TSH - which is my thyroid level. I was told my TSH level is a 6.8. Normal is 3.0 and under. They told me that I wuold have to see my GP and talk about being on synthroid. So last week I went in and he thought it would be in my best interest to get my labs taken again as well as a T4 level drawn. Anyway, I'm just playing the waiting game. BUT LATELY!!!!:huh2: : I HAVE JUST BEEN SOOO TIRED/LAZY!!:w00t::sleep: I just don't have any energy right now. Just the thought of doing laundry, housework, even taking my dogs out for a walk just urks me. I'm just so frustrated that I can't get off my butt for the life of me. About a month ago I started working nightshift 12 hour shifts 3 nights a week. I don't know if that has something to do with it, but I honestly just think it's because I'm fat and/or combonation of the thyroid problem. I just wanna cry I'm so frustrated!!:crying: I want to get this weight loss surgery ASAP! I just needed to vent that, sorry. LOL:thumbdown:

    WBC is HI

I've had a white blood count like that, and actually it's not terrible. I would not worry to much about that.
  8. So I had all my pre-op testing done for the surgery (upper GI, chest xray, labs, consults, etc.) and I was wondering how long after you had those tests did the surgeons office call you for an appointment to go over the tests and send the final paperwork in to the insurance company? I know most places will give you a surgery date before they submit it to the insurance company cause that's what the insurance company requires. I just really am anxious to get this done, ASAP. Also... Another question.. I looked up my labs and found out that my Thyroid level was slightly elevated. Normal is 3.0 , mine was 6.8. Do you think they will postpone my surgery if it's boardline high like that? I know they might put me on some synthroid or something liek that to control my levels. I'm just wondering....
  9. I had my gallbladder removed laprascopic on July 13, 2009. I'm doing well recovering from it. I'm seeing Dr. Enochs for a surgeon 7/28/09 I'm wondering , will it possible for me to get the surgery in August or September? :skep: If all tests needed get done on time?? AM I being realistic?

    Low BMI Question

I was a little worried about that. I'm 5'4'' 236lbs BMI 40.1 I havn't always been this size. Maybe 4 years? So tonight I looked up my insurance plan (BCBSNC) and they told me I only to have to have the BMI of 40 for the past 2 years! So yay!

    Who knows about your surgery?

I have pretty much told some people I work with. I work at a hospital. I've told my dad, my husband, and that's about it for family. Any extended family I won't tell until I for sure am knowing I'm having the surgery. I do as well feel that this is a private thing. I am however NOT embarrassed of this. I think I should be amended for taking care of myself and wanting to have a more better life.
  14. I hope I can be banded in August! I just had my gallbladder removed 2 weeks ago, so I'm not sure if he'll want to wait till September or later. I have surgeon consultation 7/28/09. If all goes well, I'll let you know! Good luck August Banders!
  15. I have to ask the same question. I had my gallbladder removed laprascopic 2 weeks ago. When I was in PACU from my surgery my nurse said that the lapband is much easier then the gallbladder removal. Is that true?

    Update July 27, 2009

So it's been a year since I posted the last blog. I was planning going through an insurance plan through a job I had at the time. I have since then gone back to my old job and have much better health insurance. I'm not getting the realize band. I'm just getting the traditional lap band. I've also decided to chose Dr. Paul Enochs of Cary, NC. I have a consultation for the surgery 7/28/2009.

  18. Hey folks! I just wanted to re-introduce myself to the boards. I introduced myself back in August of last year stating that I was interested in the band, and was going to start a new job and then look into a seminar. Things have changed since! I was discouraged from getting the band when I started the job back then cause my insurance was not as good as it once was. Well I went back to my old job, because of personal reasons and I got my good insurance back. Now not only do I have my new insurance, but I'm also under my husbands insurance policy. So I should be covered pretty well. :skep: Recently, (2 weeks ago) I had to have surgery to get my gallbladder removed because it was inflamed. I had a laprascopic procedure, so I'm recovering pretty well! I've decided to stick with Dr. Paul Enochs of Cary, NC because I work at Rex Hospital and he practices there and I hear many good things about him. My consult for the surgery is this Tuesday, July 28th. I hope that things go smoothly. I know that you have to be at a certain BMI for 5 years. I'm not completely positive that I've been a BMI of 40 for 5 years, maybe 4. So I might have to wait another year. We'll see. Well if you want to follow my weight loss journey -- You can subsribe to me on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/user/jlind4023 Anyone that lives in the Raleigh, NC area looking into Dr. Enochs as well?? I'd love to talk to others.

    Re-Introducing myself - Consult Tuesday

Ok, so I just went to the BCBSNC website (my health insurance carrier) and they said I only have to have a BMI of 40 for the past 2 YEARS - NOT 5 YEARS! Awesome!! Now I don't have to worry about that! Whew!

    Newbie--Just getting started!

Hey!! I'm hoping to get my surgery done by Dr. Enochs as well. I just sent the office my insurance information. Next step - consultation.
  22. Hey guys!! I joined sometime last year with thoughts of getting the lap band surgery then. I was in the process of getting a new job. Well it's been several months since I've posted on here. I have since lost that job but working back at the one before that job. I found out while at my old job that my insurance was not very good. Recently I got on my husbands insurance. He works for a hospital, so I found out that if I get the surgery at the hospital he works at I would only have to pay $50 copay. No deductible. I know I'll probably have to pay other fees like other copays, etc. But this is for sure motivating. I'm calling Dr. Paul Enochs's office tomorrow morning and making a consultation appointment with him as soon as possible. I hope to have the surgery soon. I'll let you know what's going on.
  23. So I just wanted to let you guys know that today I realized that I may not be doing the lap band surgery. I want it more then anything in this world. I want to be back to my old self when I was able to hike up a mountain and not have a problem with it. Instead money has defeated me. I recently started working at a new OB/GYN clinic. I used to work at a hospital where the health insurance was very good. After 2 months of working here I realized that my deductible is $1750. I have to not only meet that prior to my surgery but I also have to pay for my co-insurance which is $2000. So all together I have to come up with $3750 for my surgery. Sure, I can save and save and save... but honestly I live paycheck to paycheck and it's un-realistic. And to top everything off today I weighed myself at the doctors office today and found out I gained 15 pounds in the past 3 months. What else??? So instead of having a BMI of 41.6 I know have a BMI of 42.9. Great:p I just am about to say screw it and be fat forever. I've tried diet and excercise... trust me.... I've hired a personal trainer...I've done a lot.... I just am at my wits end.... somebody please give me a Xanix!!!! STAT! lol.
  24. Hey all. I'm new to this site. I've been here for about a good week. I'm looking into getting the lab band surgery. Specifically the "REALIZEBand". I'm going to a seminar here in Raleigh next month of Dr. Keith Mitchell. He practices in Pinehurst,NC. Anyone familiar with him? I would love to find anyone from the Raleigh area to talk to. Let me know.

    Anyone in the Raleigh,NC area???

Disney -- I havn't decided which doc to see. I'm attending both Dr. Enoch's and Dr. Moran's seminar in October. That's when I will be getting new insurance ( I recently switched jobs). I'm leaning towards Dr. Enochs. How did you like Dr. Enochs?? Did you have good care??? When did you have your surgery?? How are you feeling? How was his bedside manner?? Let me know.. You can personally email me @ JessicaKolman@aol.com
