  1. WVU-FAN I have family that lives in parkersburg... of course it has been years since I have seen them.. KDlee.. The measuring really works. I was freaking shocked.. I really would have assumed with how little I was eating before that I would have lost weight, but I guess it was not little enough ha ha.. So measure really helps .. I usually allow myself one snack a day and I try not to deprive myself of a craving .. So everyone in this thread likes Zumba huh?? I am not at a place where I feel comfortable going to a class, but I am thinking about buying the DVD and doing it at home. I will make my hubby dance too ha ha
  2. Mary, did your doctor tell you to only eat a half a cup or are you just full @ that amount?? I am only asking because some times if you dont eat enough your body will hold on to what you are eating and store as fat.. Mine was very specific about 1 cup 3 times a day and 1 snack... I know they are all different that is why I am asking. It is hard to find someone who was given the same information as the next ha ha..I wish you all the best keep in touch.. what part of W.V where you born in? I was born in Charleston..
  3. thanks.. nice to meet u too
  4. Hey everyone.. I am not currently living in West Virginia, but I was born there..Hope that counts enough to post in this thread  I have been reading some post and you all seem to be doing great.. I wanted to say best of luck to those who are getting ready to have your surgeries.. Elizabeth. I read the one post about you being a slow looser and I just wanted to say be glad you are loosing.. and congrats on your current weight loss.. I just thought I would share with everyone my story. I had my surgery on Oct 1st. I lost about 17lbs before surgery and then about 15 on post op diet..and then for about 3 weeks I battled an up and down of weight and was not loosing anything.. I was starting to get extremely discouraged.. I went to get my first fill and my doctor said there was no way I was eating only 1 cup of food per meal because if I was doing that I would have lost weight.. I can tell you I had my feelings hurt very badly @ that appointment because i thought I was doing everything right and from what he said I felt like I had failed.. anyways, I did not get my fill. Doc said since I was not really hungry, but an hour b4 my next meal he did not feel comfortable giving it to me yet.. SO you can be sure I started measuring my food 1 cup to the T and nothing more and I had started walking about a week before my appointment, but I usually walk 2 to 2.5 miles per night and try to push myself a little harder or further every night.. and since that appt which was just a week ago I have lost 9 lbs.. I am SO thrilled.. I dont really feel like I was a failure anymore, but I feel like I needed a kick in the butt.. and I realized that thanks to the band we can get the kick in the butt and get back on track so we are lucky in that aspect. I just wish the kick in the butt had been done more tactfully.. My feelings were rather hurt that day.... Well thanks for listening to my story. I hope it can encourage someone else.. My only suggestions are make sure to measure and exercise.. I dont avoid any kind of food except fast food.... My best wishes to all and take care.. Thanks for letting me post here
  5. steph.. welcome to LBT.. good luck with your weight loss and congrats so far.. You are doing awesome... Just remember you won't fail you will succeed.. Don't even think about those that have failed just think about how well you will do take care and keep in touch.. Enjoy the site.. lots of nice people to talk with
  6. RICK.. that is right.. Go Rays and Go lightning.. You gotta root for the boys in blue But stear clear of the ones in puter ha ha.. Good luck on Monday I hope you get the all clear to golf
  7. Kathi.. I go to disney all the time and have never had a problem fitting on ANY ride there.. The only ride that was tight was space moutain and well honestly it is not my favorite ride anyways it gives me a headache. ha ha.. My family and I are Annual pass holders their because it is nice to go walk around and ride the rides.. I don't ever go to Busch Gardens because they are not fat friendly ha ha and Neither is universal, but ANYWAYs i will get off that tangent.. You should be absolutely fine and just enjoy your vacation...best wishes
  8. Jackie.. you did nothing wrong by telling the people in your life.. I have told EVERYONE.. even people I don't know if they ask me why I am not eating a lot or why i am being picky I will tell them.. There is nothing to be ashamed of and I feel the more support the better.. I think some people are concerned about the negative responses they may get, but I think most negative responses come from those who are not fully educated on the process and unfortunately you will run into people who are not fully educated, but that is ok.. Help educate this if they want to know and if they don't well that is their loss, because almost everyone is this world knows some one who could benefits from WLS ... Keep talking to people.. Build your support and don't be afraid to tell people they positive step you are taking in your life.. best wishes
  9. Falcon.. Most doctors do not want to put the low profile port in to begin with because it is often times hard to find during a fill.. I would think maybe you ask your doctor if he will just put it in if that is what you really want..
  10. Beth.. that is awesome that he is supportive.. We all need support and i tell you it is easiest when the hubby's are there for us.. My husband is overweight, but not as bad as me, but he decided to have Lapband with me so he could go through it at the same time and I did not have to do it alone...It made me very happy he was willing to take the journey with me..We are lucky to have such wonderful men in our lives.. Best wishes to you on your journey.. Keep in touch
  11. hundred.. best wishes to you.. enjoy your journey and remember to continue believing.. sometimes the process can be long and other times it is short and easy, but dont give up hope.. best wishes take care
  12. Tracie.. I got really sick of the protein drinks as well.. I think it is just normal when you are only having that taste for 7 or 8 days straight.. I behaved and did not have anything to eat until my 9th day and I have to tell you the last day was the hardest.. I had the lump in my throat as well. i think it was just a build up of gas. it went away at about day 12 my first few days of mushies I could barely eat, but it was nice to have something different. I guess our difference is I never felt hungry.. I only ate my required amounts for the protein... I asked my doctor why I was so restricted and he said when he put my band on there is some FILL in it already. so it makes the band ever tighter and usually people start to get hungry because the swelling in their stomachs go down so the band is no longer as tight as it once was.. anyways ask your doc. I bet you had some saline in yours to start as well.. and just power through.. any really pains or things that are very uncomfortable or abnormal call your doc ASAP... best wishes..
  13. Thanks Denise.. I will check them out, but Recipes means I have to cook ha ha.. Its ok my hubby will cook for me.. Thank goodness he likes too... :grouphug:
  14. Alright can I just say how annoying it is when you type of this long post and you hit post reply and it says page can not be displayed and everything you had typed out is gone.. AAAAAAAHHHH annoying.. ANYWAYS... Sorry about the rant.. Denise.. Don't be afraid to go into your local XXX store.. everyone at the store is there for the same thing as you. You might feel a little out of your element the first few visits, but you will get used to going in and it wont seem odd..I would rather go to a store then order online because I can look up close at what I am purchasing .... Get a few girlfriends or your boyfriend to go with you.. It is always fun to go as a group.. I personally like my hubby to go with me so he can be a part of the decisions... Thanks for starting this thread it is nice to come in here and talk about something other then what we ate or how many lbs we lost or gained today ha ha.. A funny I wanted to share... I told my hubby before my preop that when the doctor asked me why I was having this surgery I was going to tell him it is so I could have sex in many new positions... Skinny people make all positions look so easy ha ha.. That is not really why I had the surgery, but it sure will be a benefit :grouphug: Had I said that to the doc it would have been hilarious, but I just could not bring myself to say it that day haha As adventurous as I am I too chicken out :pray2: Keep having fun everyone.. Take care and best wishes..
  15. Sherry.. Have you talked to your foot surgeon and told them you have the band?? Just make sure they don't do the NG tube blind and I think you will be ok, but best to make sure you advise your surgeon you have a band.. Good lUCK
  16. tomato.....I thought my MIL would be the same way, but when we told her (both my hubby and I had surgery) she was actually very supportive.. I only thought she would be negative because about 7 years ago I mentioned having the RNY and everyone thought I was crazy and they said they were concerned I would not live... Well 7 years and about 100 lbs gained later.. She is supportive and I am glad.. it really makes it easier when people are on board.. One thing I might suggest is to ask your MIL if she would like to ask you any questions or maybe go to a few appointments with you. The more knowledge of the procedure people have the more open to it they seem to be.. You and your husband are right .. your MIL might be a little jealous because she would like to have the surgery as well, but remember it is better to share your experience and talk then to just think she is being negative and not caring.. Honestly it could be that, but most people just don't understand and are afraid to ask questions.. When I am with my family I like to just tell them EVERYTHING we have to do and sometimes they say it is A LOT, but they will catch on and I simply remind them it is a small price to pay for a healthier longer life.. Best wishes and keep us posted
  17. Hi everyone.. I am jumping on the low carb band wagon.. I feel like every time i look at a nutritional label it has at least 20 carbs.. What on earth can I eat ha ha.. I managed to stay about 40 carbs today, but would like to be a lot lower.. I do very well staying low to no carb for breakfast and lunch, but I really need ideas for dinner.. can someone help me with dinner ideas?? I know this should be the easiest meal, but let me throw this deal breaker at you all.. I HATE COOKING ha ha.. Ok now that I got that off my chest I feel better... I think I am going to go pick up some shrimp at publix tomorrow.. That should last me a few days.. I just feel like I don't know what to do. The dietician said don't count anything, but I have not counted and just made sure I was not eating over a cup each meal and only 3 meals a day and 1 small snack and I have not lost a lb in a week. I think I actually gained 1 or two back .. so it made me sad :grouphug: I barely eat and people think I am starving myself, but really i am not hungry. I just can't figure it out.. I go for my first fill on nov 4th and I would like to loose a few lbs before then.. Wish me luck please... and Thank you.. best wishes to everyone
  18. MStrina.. Can I just tell you I totally understand what you are going through.. The friday before my surgery my work had a pot luck and not I hate pot lucks, but when you have not eating, but 1 meal a day for 2 weeks anything looks good ha ha.. and then everyone kept asking me Do you want something or Oh you are not eating. when EVERYONE knew I was getting ready to have surgery.. I am not shy so I make sure to tell everyone I know what I am doing that way they know can respect my choice..and THEN the week after my surgery when I was on part liquids and then moved to mushies.. get this my work provided breakfast or lunch EVERYday that week.. so it was just like rubbing the food in my face and by the 8th day of all liquids I must say I thought I was going to have to snap, but I did not I made it through.. One key thing to remember is don't tell yourself you CAN'T have it rather you DON'T want it.. It helps me make it through and I promise it will get easier.. Right now when I am full I am full and I could careless to see another piece of food, but It is still hard to resist temptation and I am working against that.. ha ha.. my best wishes to you and everyone else on this journey... take care

Very good blog.. I need to see that.. I think I am like the tortoise as well.. It can be a little discouraging, but i remind myself how it should be Best wishes to you
  20. wickedme...this will be so much different.. because now you are doing something so you can be with your children longer and I am not sure how your kids are, but from the way you talk about them they seem very loving.. My son is 7 and he loves taking care of his Mommy and Daddy.. so when my husband and I had our surgies we let our son stay home from school for 1 day to take care of us and help us through that day.. He was very loving and very helpful..All I told him when he asked what we had surgery for was that we wanted to make sure we could have help living a healthier life so we would be here for eachother and him longer.. He just smiled.. We have taught our son that it does not matter if a person is big or small, fat or skinny, we are all peole and deserve to be treated the same... He told me after my surgery he liked me just the way i was and at the size I was.. I just smiled at him and said thank you handsome, but mommy will be able to do more fun things with you... It wont change who I am.. Just what I can do with who I am... I just suggest answering their questions honestly and being as open with them as you feel comfortable.. the more the better.. Best wishes

Well I am feeling a little BLAH today and ready to be at home. I know I am in the recovery stage still, but I have only lost 1 lbs in the last week and compared to the high you get from loosing 15 lbs in two weeks it is really a drag ha ha.. I know it is better for me to loose at a steady pase, but I feel like I never eat and from intake alone you would think I would drop the weight rather rapidly. I know I did not put it on overnight so i can not expect it to fall off over night, but sure would be nice if that could happen.. Anyways, I am at work right now and just feeling BLAH so I thought I would vent about that. I am feeling pretty good. I just wish my body would finish healing so i could get on with loosing.. Waking up and weighing myself and seeing less pounds really can make a girl smile first thing in the morning.. I need to stick to only weighing myself once a week, but darn that stupid scale it calls me morning and night.. I am going to have to put it away. I have never been so obessed about anything.. Ok well I hope everyone is having a good day. i am going to try to become un BLAH.. take care and thanks for letting me vent.
