Told my MIL- that was a mistake, LOL

tomato.....I thought my MIL would be the same way, but when we told her (both my hubby and I had surgery) she was actually very supportive.. I only thought she would be negative because about 7 years ago I mentioned having the RNY and everyone thought I was crazy and they said they were concerned I would not live... Well 7 years and about 100 lbs gained later.. She is supportive and I am glad.. it really makes it easier when people are on board.. One thing I might suggest is to ask your MIL if she would like to ask you any questions or maybe go to a few appointments with you. The more knowledge of the procedure people have the more open to it they seem to be.. You and your husband are right .. your MIL might be a little jealous because she would like to have the surgery as well, but remember it is better to share your experience and talk then to just think she is being negative and not caring.. Honestly it could be that, but most people just don't understand and are afraid to ask questions.. When I am with my family I like to just tell them EVERYTHING we have to do and sometimes they say it is A LOT, but they will catch on and I simply remind them it is a small price to pay for a healthier longer life.. Best wishes and keep us posted

    Low Carb Banders Unite

Hi everyone.. I am jumping on the low carb band wagon.. I feel like every time i look at a nutritional label it has at least 20 carbs.. What on earth can I eat ha ha.. I managed to stay about 40 carbs today, but would like to be a lot lower.. I do very well staying low to no carb for breakfast and lunch, but I really need ideas for dinner.. can someone help me with dinner ideas?? I know this should be the easiest meal, but let me throw this deal breaker at you all.. I HATE COOKING ha ha.. Ok now that I got that off my chest I feel better... I think I am going to go pick up some shrimp at publix tomorrow.. That should last me a few days.. I just feel like I don't know what to do. The dietician said don't count anything, but I have not counted and just made sure I was not eating over a cup each meal and only 3 meals a day and 1 small snack and I have not lost a lb in a week. I think I actually gained 1 or two back .. so it made me sad :grouphug: I barely eat and people think I am starving myself, but really i am not hungry. I just can't figure it out.. I go for my first fill on nov 4th and I would like to loose a few lbs before then.. Wish me luck please... and Thank you.. best wishes to everyone
  3. MStrina.. Can I just tell you I totally understand what you are going through.. The friday before my surgery my work had a pot luck and not I hate pot lucks, but when you have not eating, but 1 meal a day for 2 weeks anything looks good ha ha.. and then everyone kept asking me Do you want something or Oh you are not eating. when EVERYONE knew I was getting ready to have surgery.. I am not shy so I make sure to tell everyone I know what I am doing that way they know can respect my choice..and THEN the week after my surgery when I was on part liquids and then moved to mushies.. get this my work provided breakfast or lunch EVERYday that week.. so it was just like rubbing the food in my face and by the 8th day of all liquids I must say I thought I was going to have to snap, but I did not I made it through.. One key thing to remember is don't tell yourself you CAN'T have it rather you DON'T want it.. It helps me make it through and I promise it will get easier.. Right now when I am full I am full and I could careless to see another piece of food, but It is still hard to resist temptation and I am working against that.. ha ha.. my best wishes to you and everyone else on this journey... take care

    Tortoise and the Hare

Very good blog.. I need to see that.. I think I am like the tortoise as well.. It can be a little discouraging, but i remind myself how it should be Best wishes to you
  5. wickedme...this will be so much different.. because now you are doing something so you can be with your children longer and I am not sure how your kids are, but from the way you talk about them they seem very loving.. My son is 7 and he loves taking care of his Mommy and Daddy.. so when my husband and I had our surgies we let our son stay home from school for 1 day to take care of us and help us through that day.. He was very loving and very helpful..All I told him when he asked what we had surgery for was that we wanted to make sure we could have help living a healthier life so we would be here for eachother and him longer.. He just smiled.. We have taught our son that it does not matter if a person is big or small, fat or skinny, we are all peole and deserve to be treated the same... He told me after my surgery he liked me just the way i was and at the size I was.. I just smiled at him and said thank you handsome, but mommy will be able to do more fun things with you... It wont change who I am.. Just what I can do with who I am... I just suggest answering their questions honestly and being as open with them as you feel comfortable.. the more the better.. Best wishes

    Blah...BLah....Blah...

Well I am feeling a little BLAH today and ready to be at home. I know I am in the recovery stage still, but I have only lost 1 lbs in the last week and compared to the high you get from loosing 15 lbs in two weeks it is really a drag ha ha.. I know it is better for me to loose at a steady pase, but I feel like I never eat and from intake alone you would think I would drop the weight rather rapidly. I know I did not put it on overnight so i can not expect it to fall off over night, but sure would be nice if that could happen.. Anyways, I am at work right now and just feeling BLAH so I thought I would vent about that. I am feeling pretty good. I just wish my body would finish healing so i could get on with loosing.. Waking up and weighing myself and seeing less pounds really can make a girl smile first thing in the morning.. I need to stick to only weighing myself once a week, but darn that stupid scale it calls me morning and night.. I am going to have to put it away. I have never been so obessed about anything.. Ok well I hope everyone is having a good day. i am going to try to become un BLAH.. take care and thanks for letting me vent.

  9. Bim. I left a comment on your blog the other day, but I thought I would stop by here as well and say hi. Glad you are home and feeling well. Just remember to take it easy. I am reading here you went with Bypass.. Really take it easy and keep us posted on how you are doing :) take care

  10. Hey.. I am glad you are home.. I know it is hard to be back at work .. the first few days were pretty rough for me.. You will do well. Just take it easy.. I have lost a few pounds, but it certainly slowed down since I went from liquids to food..I was thinking about going back to protein drinks for a few days, but I really just dont think I can handle the protein drinks again ha ha not yet anyways, but I am taking it one day at a time. I never eat over my alotted amounth and only have 1 snack a day so we will see what happens. The doctor said we would see a period were we would not loose any because our body was healing. I am hoping that is all mine is doing right now. I go for my first fill on 11/04..

keep me posted and take care

    Almost one week

BIM.. SO glad your surgery went well.. I know what it is like to be so nervous I was the same way.. My doctor picks on me because I told him at my preop I would be in tears and he came in the room at post op and asked if I was crying.. ha ha I was like heck no not today, but maybe at the fill he just laughs.. I told him I just wanted to make sure he remembered me FOREVER anyways, I am super excited you are doing good... Keep me posted and congrats on your current weight loss.. take it easy and be safe

    After Surgery

  16. Lori.. for your distance you might want to take 2 pillows.. more is better  I have just always loved my pillows after surgery  BEST WISHES
  17. Hey Sun.. I dont drink so that is not an issue for me.. it is not because I am a goody goody or anything I just never really want to drink so I dont ha ha.. As far as eating post op is the hardest, but I found as long as I told family and friend what I was doing it was much easier to get past people making offers I might have not been able to resist.. As far as holidays go.. I am not at all worried.. I am usually not hungry anymore so I dont really ever crave anything.. I have my 3 meals a day and one snack.. so I just make sure what I am going to have for a snack is what I really love or maybe what I have been craving if I have been craving anything.. It works out really well for me.. I have found I have a lot more will power knowing I have this band... and even before I had it because I knew I was working for something I really wanted... even though I have ALWAYS wanted to be skinnier it was not as easy to not give in, but now I dont ever get hungry and I have learned ways to avoid snacking through out the day.. You really just have to find things that work for you... read post and take Ideas from others and if you like them see if they work for you.. :)

  18. question about the protein bullets.. Are they gross tasting or do you mix them in with something?? can anyone share with me about them?? thanks

    Anyone NOT LOSE their hair?

Lisa I would recommend talking to your doctor about the hair loss.. You dont really loose all your hair it just thins out..I have heard if you take B12 then is lessens the amount of hair thinning.. it only last for about a month or son and then it will grow back.. Anyways that is about all I know mine has not started thinning yet so we will see what happens... good luck

    Hello from a new guy

TX one more thing.. the gas does suck, but believe me it goes away.. For about a week I had to stand leaning forward with my hands on the couch or a bed in order to burp.. So lady like I know, but when you feel that bad you do what you have to do ha ha.. walking is also helpful at moving it around.. Good luck.. I hope it goes away soon
  23. Sun.. best of luck to you on your surgery. yes I had mine on Oct 1st and it was the best thing I have ever done.. I think I might have doubted my decision for about 1 hour because I had about two days there were completely miserable in recovery process, but other then that 1 hour i would not look back.. YOu will continue you to be a ball of emotions until the day you have your surgery and probably for a few weeks after.. It is a big change in life, but navigate around the site here a lot of people are very friendly and it helps to have so many people going through the same thing you are.. Best wishes.. keep in touch
