  1. Hi , I am 4 days out from a sleeve .I had GERD before the op but was told when they fixed my hernia it would improve .At the moment it is twice as bad as before the op .I am hoping this goes in time .I also heard bypass was better for this but I wasn't suitable for that . Good luck x
  2. I didn't consider how bad the anaethestic (sorry) would make me feel .I crashed out the whole day and my surgeon woke me up early next morning saying I should be up and walking .I'd also had a hernia repair and felt utterly poorly .I struggled to get up but did and had a wash , then I did the corridor slowly .It was made clear to me that I was expected to go home after just the one night , the package was for 2 .On top of that there were huge problems around me taking my regular pills because they weren't soluble.I really needed my anti depressants . Not a great start and don't feel like I'm at the beginning of a new adventure , just tired, poorly and low .Anyone else felt like that ? thanks x
  3. Thanks Look F , I can cope with the hunger no problem really .I am in less pain , feel less down and am getting most of meds down , so a big smile from me x
  4. thanks everyone,I feel brighter today .I am hungry though .
  5. I really appreciate every answer - thanks ,I feel so much better knowing I'm not the only one who feels whacked out . I just read my discharge papers and it looks like the hernia repair was a Fundoplication which is more major than I thought .One of you said you get sharp pains in the ribs which leave you breathless , sort of sucks the breath out of me too ,so it's good to know it's not just me . I so identify with feeling bloated and retaining water .I feel heavier than before I went in . The hernia repair was to help with gastric reflux , is that the same reason some of you guys had it ? xxx
  6. Hi Shopp - some of them are tablets and apparently I'm not supposed to take them if they aren't liquid, soluble or melt .I just got an e mail from the dietitian saying if they are small you can swallow them .I ground them and swallowed them and I'm still here !! I know the coated ones can't be chewed or ground up but yes,I had to go without my pills which isn't brilliant .
  7. Hi , am following the milk and yogurt liver shrinkage diet .It's 8-10 no fat diet yogurts (60 cals each ) and 1 pint of semi skimmed milk shakes .Has anyone else done this or is doing it now ? thanks x
  8. I have to say I am doing ok on this diet .Luckily I like yogurt and milkshakes .I've got 2 weeks left on it and I think I'll manage it ok .
  9. I have the sleeve on the 17th of August and have never had surgery which hasn't required me to be cleared out before hand .I asked my dietitian yesterday and she wasn't sure .Am in the UK , anybody know ? thanks
  10. Thank you , I'm glad about that !
  11. I have another question .Do you stop eating the night before the op ? do you have to take laxatives ? also do you go in the day before the op or on the day ? many thanks !x
  12. I am going private in the UK , despite this I have little info from them to go on ie will I have to have a catheter fitted ? will I be put out before they put that tube down my throat ? how soon can I walk around ? They are also fixing a Hiatus hernia - anyone had this done too ? Will I have lots of wind ( I don't mean from the op , I mean further on . ) I already have a colostomy which makes me fart ! to put it bluntly - I don't need more further down the line . Any advice gladly appreciated !! thanks
  13. Thanks Summer . My original price for the op was £11,000 but it went up to £13,800 for the cost of having the hiatus hernia repaired at the same time .In fact I did consider just having the op and no repair but he said he couldn't do one without the other .He told me it would only cost slightly more - maybe in his world ! an extra 3 grand is a lot ! I am still thinking about Spire ......... thanks x
  14. Hi all , thank you for your replies .Yes Sleever I do wear a bag permanently attached to my abdomen just to clarify . It's great news that you don't have a catheter and you are put to sleep so easily .I am having a few concerns about the hospital .The admin has been awful , poor communication , and sometimes just plain rude .Of course the nursing staff may be different .I didn't get my original choice of doctor and I think I need to do more research on my doctor .Summerseeker -I may look at Spire .Do you mind me asking your cost ? Shopp , thanks for the info .Any more thoughts from any of you very welcome .
  15. Hi All , could anyone tell me if they've gone private , how long is it till you actually get the surgery ? I know there is some preparation (drinking milk to clear the liver for example ) but no one has told me how long it is from consultation to operation when going private ? would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has done this thanks x

Thanks for the reply .That's a lot longer than I thought it would be .My husband is going down the NHS route , but that's a lot longer and you have to start off with a 3 month diet which is making him think if he could diet for 3 months , why would he go down the surgery route .Fair point . I'll see what my specialist says .Anyone else ?
