  1. I also wanted a sleeve initially, but my Dr recommended a bypass because I am revising from a lap band. According to him, new data shows that folks with lap band revisions do much better with a bypass then with a sleeve. He did not discuss the reflux issue, but I had terrible reflux from a slipped band, and I never want to go through that again. Also, in the unlikely circumstance that something is terribly wrong, a bypass can be undone -- all the original parts are still there. With a sleeve, the extra part of your stomach is actually removed. That is my thinking anyway. I keep thinking that the sleeve may be a bit like the lap band, something new that does not work for a lot of people in the long run -- kind of like the band. Perhaps not -- time will tell. 2. This calories in / calories out formula is simply not valid for everyone. It is well known that most people who have been very overweight need fewer calories to maintain a new lower weight than people who have always been at that lower weight. I wish people would stop sending out those old formulas. For example, my bariatric Dr is a bariatric patient himself. For him to maintain his loss, he eats 2 meals a day and eats less than his always slender wife. What someone needs at 9 months depends on their own circumstances. Those formulas have misled a lot of us. We all need to listen to our own doctors and our own bodies. Also. 1100 calories might be right for one person, too little for another, and too much for yet another. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Esophageal Dilation with prolapse

I had a slipped band and a prolapse myself. It was pretty awful -- reflux every night. It hurt to eat or drink anything but ice cream (cold so it numbed me- not sharp, like yogurt). Even drinking Water hurt. They tried removing all the fill and that did not work. I had lots of barium swallows. Finally, I had revision surgery. That was a year and a half ago and I have been afraid to get another fill. That's why I am here now -- as a step toward getting the courage to try again. I need to see if I can get the band to work for me without another prolapse -- otherwise, I need to consider other surgery. I am working toward weight loss after prolapse -- I have gained what I lost back. Mocca
