Candigrl1 got a reaction from omrhsn in Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
I dropped two dress sizes and didn't realize it. I always buy pants and skirts with elastic and decided to get a skirt without elastic I really wanted. Tried it on and it could slip past my hips and had to get a smaller size. Not a big victory but I'll take it. I also had my feet shrink down a size. So none of my shoes fit me right. Guess its time to go shopping. 😃

Stalls happen. You just have to stick to your plan & wait them out for the 1-3 weeks they usually last. It will break when your body is ready. Not sure how much you were hoping to lose but you could be in maintenance or just experiencing the extremely slow weight loss many of us face when we’re almost at our final weight.
Congrats on your weight loss. 91lbs is amazing.

I finally went ahead and had my hair cut above my shoulders. The exact style isn't exactly what I wanted but I love my wavy hair. There is some small growth but I still have a way to go.

Hmm...maybe I should give this a try. I find I crave things to eat in the late evening. I miss having tea. Chamomile was always a favorite.

I wondered if it was just the to be expected slowing or a prolonged stall too. Though I am leaning towards stall because your calorie intake is still low. Certainly too low to be maintaining for your activity level. (Though a little taller than you, I eat about 1400+/- calories to maintain at my weight & I really don’t exercise.)
I slowed right down & the last kilo to my goal was a b*tch to lose. I was only eating a bare 900 calories like you but I did keep slowly losing for another 11 odd months (another 11kg) until my caloric intake equalised what my body needed to maintain.
Have a chat with your surgeon & dietician. They know you & your needs best.

+1 on this. There are lots of benefits to strength training, but the most germaine here is the fact that it will increase your metabolism.

yes that seems normal to me. Once I got to around the year mark my weight loss slowed down to a crawl. We're talking maybe two lbs a month. But I kept at it and it eventually came off...
also, stalls late in the game seem to be more frequent and last longer. So many times I said "well, this must be it...", and then I'd end up dropping a couple more pounds.

So I have been around the same weight for a little over a month. Sometimes gaining a pound or two then losing it back. My question is once your weight loss really starts to slow way down like mine did will you continue to lose weight? I am eating around 900 calories per day with 30 minutes of exercise. Is this enough or do I need to revamp my calories down?
    Thanks

I'm just really depressed about my hair. I knew I would lose some hair but I just didn't expect to lose so much. Even a pixie cut (which I wanted) wouldn't look right. Only saving grace is that the Hair loss has slowed down. But not gonna lie I feel at a lost.

It often starts around month 3 & will persist about 3 months. As with all things it may start sooner or later than that and last more or less than 3 months.

Candigrl1 reacted to SleeveToBypass2023 in So, so ready....
I am OFFICIALLY in a size 7 ring!!! And my size 18/20 clothes are beginning to get a little loose. Holy crap!!!!
I'm having my 1st procedure to remove (hopefully) half of my pre-cancerous polyps in my stomach on Friday the 17th. The 2nd (and hopefully last) one will be on March 10th.
I'm thinking my revision (going from my gastric sleeve to a gastric bypass out of necessity, because of what the sleeve is doing to my stomach and my esophagus) will be in May or June. I can't wait to get through that and just get back to living my life.
So tired of all these medical issues. I just want to go back to working out the way I used to and FEEL BETTER. So tired of this.

Candigrl1 reacted to SpartanMaker in Stalls
    Reposting something I posted elsewhere:
First, the most common reason for any stall, including the dreaded 3-week stall is simply that you are retaining more Water. There are a few reasons this happens, but around the 3-week mark it comes down to the fact that your body is adjusting to a low carb intake after converting from glycogen to ketones for energy. More Water is needed to burn glycogen, so you were retaining more water pre-surgery than you are now that you're using primarily ketones for energy. At about the 3-week mark, your body eventually recognizes that the water loss is long term, so other mechanisms have started kicking in to start holding on to more water. This water loss due to the change between glycogen and ketones is the primary reason for "keto flu", and something that increases your risk of dehydration early after surgery.
The other "reasons" for plateaus really don't apply as much at the 3 week mark, but will become more important later in the process. Let's cover those too though so you're prepared:
As you lose more weight, your overall metabolic rate will slow down. People sometimes think fat is not metabolically active, but that's not true. Less fat means your metabolism slows down, even if you retain the same amount of muscle. As you lose weight, it takes less effort to move, so the amount of calories you burn from activity also drops quite a bit. As you progress, you'll be able to eat more and especially if you're not tracking intake closely by weighing and measuring your food, you can easily be eating a lot more than you think. This one may be TMI for some, but you may simply be retaining more stool. This is going to be hard for some people to hear, but I can tell you one thing it's not, and that's hormones. Yes, various hormonal processes negatively impact weight loss in a myriad of ways, but they don't overcome basic physics: if you eat less than you are burning, you'll lose weight. What these hormones can do if they're out of whack, is not good things like slowing your metabolism, increasing your hunger, screwing with water weight, or even fooling you into thinking you're eating less than you are.
So, with all that sciency stuff out of the way, what do we actually do if we're in a stall? Well, I think it depends on when it happens and how long it lasts:
If it's early (a.k.a. the 3-week stall), just keep doing what you're doing and you should be fine. I know people don't like that advice, but as I said, it's just water, so don't worry about it. Later on, especially if the stall is lasting longer than 2-3 weeks. that's when I think it's important that you look closely at what you are actually burning, as well as really tracking what you are eating. If you don't know your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate), you should. The closer you are to goal, the harder it is to get the balance right between intake and output to make sure you're not eating too much, so fixing this starts with knowing your BMR and accurate food logging. There's a lot of anecdotal advice thrown around about "ways to break a stall", but there seems to be little scientific evidence for any of it. Most of it certainly won't hurt to try, e.g. breaking up your routine in terms of diet or exercise, but just understand that this change may or may not have had any impact. If it makes you feel better to be proactive, go for it. Longer term, there is one piece of solid advice that's backed up by lots of research: Even if you don't really like working out, do it anyway. Those WLS patients that make a regular habit of exercising for 45 minutes to an hour most days a week are significantly more likely to reach their goal and maintain the weight loss. (One caveat here: significantly changing your exercise routine can make you retain water and possibly even add muscle, so don't freak out if you see a stall or even a gain.) I'll take that exercise advice one step further and say you really should be doing some form of strength training. This is also backed up by lots of studies, but the great thing about strength training is that it makes your burn more calories even at rest (in other words, it increases your metabolic rate). There are lots of other benefits, but the metabolic benefit is the most germaine to the stall question. Those that do strength training are less likely to stall during weight loss.

For me this was the hardest part to deal with after surgery. My issue is and was that I had already had some Hair loss before surgery and now I see a lot of scalp. My plan was to get a curly hair cut and once I see my stylist she may be able to still do it though I'm not holding out hope for that. My hair is finally starting to grow back though I still have a lot of scalp showing and the hair loss has slowed down. Hang in there it will get better.

Yes it's possible. I lost 30 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks when I first had the surgery. Just keep in mind, the larger you are, the more (and faster) you lose. BUT...that can also mean you'll hit more stalls (I hit one every time I lose more than 3 pounds in a week lol).

I feel this way every time I look in a mirror. Even though my clothes are huge on me it still feels like I haven't loss anything. People will tell me oh you lost weight and look smaller and that small part of my brain will think they are just being nice and playing along. Like others on this topic my weight loss has slowed down but I keep trying and moving on.
