  1. Depends. Are you being treated as a day patient and sent home the same day or will you be able to rest in hospital for a day or so? I had the bypass and a hernia repair at the same time. I was in heaps of pain and being hydrated on a drip. Four days in hospital and then I was allowed to go home. I live in Australia. I felt very sore and sorry for myself but treated myself with care. I live on my own,

Whatever facility is treating you should have a back up plan to help you if you find yourself in difficulties. Check in with them to ease any worries.

When you do get home and things are okay then your hubby may be needed for a couple of days just to make sure that you are okay. Hope every thing goes goes well for you on preop. 😊

  2. Our bodies are not machines. It is quite normal to lose at different rates in difference parts of our bodies. Some people lose more on the top half than the bottom half and vice versa. Of course if you have muscles in your dominant arm then there will be a difference. Muscles are a good thing.

Also our bodies have differences from one side to the other. None of us a perfectly symmetrical.

  3. You have done amazingly well. 😊40lbs is awesome. Take time out to Celebrate that fact. Get yourself a gift. :694_gift:

Like others have said please stay off the scales. Maybe weight yourself once a week or month. Get a tape measure and record your stats. In another 6 weeks do it again and see the changes add up.

I have never heard of losing 50% of weight in the first three months. This may be true for some but not most. Starting at a higher weigh will also affect what happens. I am speaking from personal experience.

When there is a very long road ahead it is easy to lose sight of the horizon and feel discouraged. I am nearly at a year post op and I am only now beginning to see a big change. I found it helpful along the way to celebrate the big little milestones. Milestones included being able to have a shower and not get exhausted. Walking further and further each month. I could only manage to walk past 3 houses at the start and now I can walk 5km and feel okay after that. Going shopping and not having to plan a trip around being able to sit every 5 minutes.

Start setting other goals. Exercise. Holidays. New clothes. Having fun. You get the drift. Focus on the here and now. You will get there. Baby steps every day. :1007_hearts:

Thanks so much for the reminders @Possum220! I have definitely already experienced mood changes. I was really sappy earlier today, wanting to tell everyone that I love them. Then I was a little annoyed in the afternoon by the smallest things. Lol. What a ride this is already!

I hope you are doing well and getting to a good place. 🙂

Yep doing much better now at 11 months out. food is normal now. Some days I get my Fluid in others not so much. I have written things down in a journal along the way and have found it helpful to remember the little details. Now is a good time to take your measurements so your brain can 'see' the changes when the scale don't reflect any movement.

    Good luck on your journey.

  5. Third day post op I was still in hospital after having those things done. Day by day you will get better. Be gentle with yourself and stay on top of the pain medications to ease the pain. Try to keep those fluids up while understanding that your insides are swollen.

You may be more emotional thanks to the changes in your hormones and the anesthetic. Being aware of these changes can help you in this adjustment period. Be kind to yourself.

Yay, You made it out to the other side. 😊

Hi! I’m new to this group. I’m hoping to find
People who are like me and may can help. I had surgery may 2022. I’ve lost 91lbs, but I’ve been stalled for weeks. Any suggestions on how to get back in the game???

You dont need to get back in the game. This is the game you signed up to. Your weight loss is great. Your body is just having a moment to adjust. Continue to do the right things and you will find that the scales will begin to move again. Your metabolism had likely changed by now so the weight loss may be slower. Try changing the exercises you are doing to help.

I am almost 5 weeks post-op, and am frustrated. I joined another site to help me track my foods, and yesterday I consumed less than 300 calories for a whole day and was nowhere near my Protein goals. Last week I was able to make some egg whites and I had a 1,000 calorie day and felt like that was too much. My dietician told me to aim for 700 per day, with a minimum of 80g of Protein. I feel like there's no consistency.

Yall, I am really struggling. Do I need to go back to my liquid diet where I was getting all my protein? I've been at a stall for almost 2 weeks and don't see my dietician again until mid-April.

700 would be the very minimum to aim for. 300 is way too low. Your body needs fuel. You may find it easier to to have a combination of fluids and and soft foods until you can see the dietician. There is no one size fits all. Just do the best you can. At five weeks you are still healing and finding your way. I found that baked Beans or soft scrambled eggs (including the yolks) was a tasty way to get my protein in. Warmed Tomato juice and added my own Protein Powder.

Stalls will happen along the way. Do yourself a favor and stay off the scales.

  8. Seeing a surgeon is a very good place to start. They will be able to give you more of an idea if this procedure will work for you. After I had my consult with the surgeon I saw my dietician. We went through what I was eating and she made the comment that I didnt eat much. Problem was that I ate 100% carbs. I did no exercise either as my body was not able to manage any sustained physical movement.

This whole process is about learning and doing what actually works for us and our bodies. I am so grateful that the operation gave the me the ability to attack my mobility issues and re think what I was putting in my mouth. Hope that you can turn things around and be a healthier you.

I have one more appointment before scheduling surgery. Did anyone else feel like they were missing something or nervous about what to expect, recovery time, dehydration? Is there anything I should know or be prepared for post surgery.

Use this one last appointment to ask all the questions that you want/need. Have you had a dietician assigned to you. Does your surgeon supply written information on the procedure and after care? Are there follow up appointments afterwards?

There is a very informative book called - Your complete guide to nutrition for weight loss surgery. Written by Sally Johnston, Great information on all the procedures, stages and the journey post WLS. Also includes Fluid and Vitamin requirements.

Hi , I just got my 6 months bloods and my serum urea level is above range 8.6mmo/L - it's above the higher reference limit .I know we're all devouring a lot of Protein , but I'm concerned about my kidneys and this high urea reading .Does anyone know anything about this ? I've tried to look it up and it just says too much Protein can cause high urea levels and kidney problems .Worried now, thanks .

Have you made and appointment with your doctor to discuss these results?

Hi all , I am 6 months out , on Bariatric Pal Multivitamin ONE chewable plus 45mg Iron tablet , but it's still not doing it .I only had the tests done yesterday and first thing today the doctor texted and said you are very low on Iron .She told me to get in touch with my dietician for her to decide what's to be done , but I only have her e mail so don't know when she'll reply .

Has this happened to you ? what did you get told ? please don't suggest including more fruit and veg or red meat into my diet , as I am struggling with "ordinary" food going down as it is .

    Many thanks for reading x

Just wondering how low your iron levels are? If you are anemic getting an iron infusion will help reset your levels.

I'm almost 2 years op post VGS. I had lost a total of 80lbs but in the last few months I have managed to gain 30lbs. I've gotten back into my old habits and I feel like a complete loser. I don't know where to go from here. I want to reach out to my doctor to help me get back on track but again I feel like I've failed and I'm embarassed. Does anyone have any advice on how to get back on track? Any help is appreciated.

You are more than welcome in check back in with the surgeon now rather than continuing to gain. They would much rather see you now than waiting too long and reversing all the good you have done. Your dietician would also rather see you now. Sometimes a few words really can help turn things back around. Talk to some-one who is rooting for you. Kick those old and failing habits back to the curb, 😊

  13. More than likely when you progress to solids that your restriction will kick into gear and you will be in no doubt that things have changed, The surgery that you have had will also be reducing the amount of grehlin (hunger hormone) and will restrict your urge to eat. It is good that things have gone well so far.

Always check back in with the surgeon if you are having issues.

I’m scheduled for an outpatient gastric bypass surgery at a BMI surgical center. Has anyone else had bypass as an outpatient? If so, what was your experience? Any helpful advice? I’m a little nervous to be going home the same day after this type of surgery. 😳

I had the rny bypass and was in agony afterwards. Stayed 3 night in hospital but also in Australia. Ask the clinic if they have links to a medical facilities if you find yourself in difficulties. This is major surgery. Cant be too cautious.

  15. I did have anxiety over what might happen after surgery. Truth be told apart from the very bad pain I had that took a very long time to go I have had a brilliant run. No dramas no nasty little surprises. I kinda buried myself in Dr Google and weight loss stories on you tube after surgery. Time has passed now and I am focusing on being health and eating well.

The pendulum will swing in another direction. Focus on your new future. Life after WLS.
