  1. Hello! I had the band about 7 years ago and the sleeve in Tijuana about 3 years ago. I have been a very slow loser with the sleeve and can't seem to get rid of these last 30-40 pounds. I'm considering having the Mini Gastric Bypass later this year. I can't find a bunch of information anywhere else, so I thought some of you may be willing to share your experiences and your weight loss. I am willing to consider Juarez or Tijuana. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thank you in advance!
  2. Yes, what is the weight loss so far? Would you do it again?
  3. Hi, My husband and I were banded in Mexico by Dr. Aceves about 3 weeks ago and are trying to get something scheduled for the end of November. I was told that if I can contact the lady that does the fills in Roswell, Georgia directly, that I could save a bunch of money over filling out the patient profile online through Fill Centers USA. Is this true? If so, can anyone tell me how to contact her? Thanks!
  4. I was banded on 10.16.08 and until the other night, things were going just fine. I was banded with a 4cc band and they left a fill of .8cc when they placed the band. I have been feeling a good deal of restriction and had just recently been able to finally drink Water without it taking 2 hours to finish a glass. Anyway, I decided that I just HAD TO try a chicken wing (I know....really stupid!!!) at dinner the other night. Well, at first it was going well. I chewed and chewed and chewed, but it would never completely turn to mush and I swallowed. I was fine at first and instantly felt full, so I didn't even eat another one or anything else for that matter. Then....all of sudden it happened. I told my husband I was going to be sick and it was AWFUL. My chest hurt really bad and it was almost difficult to breathe. I threw up (I think it's called sliming) about 5 times and then had 2 dry heaves. All of this was within a 1 hour period. Well, I finally felt better, but my stomach area was really sore the next day. Also, I don't feel the same restriction that I did prior to this event. Has my band slipped???? Have I ruined what I just had done???? Please help me....I'm really worried.

    OK...I'm in a PANIC

I know I shouldn't have done it, but I couldn't resist temptation. I have been following the diet EXACTLY as I was told with the exception of that 1 chicken wing. I am definitely back on plan and just want to know if I might have hurt myself. I don't have any really pain, no acid reflux, no problems sleeping and still eating a minimal amount, just not feeling that gurgling sound like I did before when I was eating or drinking.
  6. Hi, My husband and I are scheduled to be banded on October 16th in Mexico. Just wondering if anyone else out there will have the same "birthday" as us. Good luck to everyone and thanks for all of the wonderful advice!

    Anyone Being Banded on 10/16

So far so good on the Pre-Op diet. I sure do miss the Diet Cokes, but haven't had any bad headaches, so I'm glad about that. I've been drinking a lot of Crystal Light and the apple flavor is amazing. We're getting closer to our date and I'm so excited!

Does anyone have Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Tennessee? Can you share your experiences with approvals and their requirements? Thanks!

    Anyone Being Banded on 10/16

I will begin my pre-op diet on Monday and I'm actually looking forward to it. While I have never liked diets in the past or been very successful with them, this one is different. I feel like I'm on a journey to me and I have lots of support. My husband and I live in Tennessee. We are being banded together in Mexico on the 16th. Where is everyone else?
  10. Hi, I can't believe it....we're finally confirmed. I'm so EXCITED that I can hardly stand it. My husband and I are being banded in Mexico on October 16th by Dr. Aceves. It's been a long road of researching and juggling things around to make this work, but it's set and we're ready to go. Thanks for all the advice and support on this forum.

    Anyone Being Banded on 10/16

I'm glad to know both of you! I was beginning to think that we were the only ones getting banded on the 16th. For the first time in my life, I'm really committed to making a change and I feel GREAT about it. I am a little bit nervous, but I'm much more excited about becoming the person I know that I should be. Good luck to both of you and let's keep in touch after the surgery!

    Other Options?

I too am a self pay and after months of research, decided Mexico was the way to go. My surgery is next month and includes 1 night hotel and 2 nights in the hospital. When I add in the airfare to San Diego, my cost was only $7500. Good luck in your search!
  14. Hi! My name is Paula and I'm 40 years old. I am married to a GREAT guy (20 years next week) and we have a son in high school and a son in college. My husband and I (yes, he's being banded with me) are going on this journey together, in hopes of improving our health. We are being banded on October 16th and it can't get here quick enough! Looking forward to staying in touch with everyone! Good Luck To All Of You!
  15. I need some feedback from anyone who has done their pre-op diet, followed instructions and completed their surgery. We received instructions from one potential surgeon and while the instructions were sound and solid, they were not scary and regimented. The other surgeon basically sent over a book of "NO's" and a very strict regiment for the two weeks prior to surgery. As a matter of fact, they are so different, you would think they were performing different surgeries. Can anyone tell me what they did or didn't do the two weeks prior to surgery and if it did/did not possibly make the surgery smoother or recovery quicker? Thanks a bunch!
  16. Well......we thought we had made our choice of Dr. Ortiz, but now they want us to consider Dr. Martinez for our (my husband and I) surgery next month. I'm unable to find much information about his as the main surgeon, so can anyone provide some insight? We need to get our plane tickets booked for next month, but don't want to do it (they aren't refundable) if we're not sure. Please help! Thanks
  17. Hi, Well, after researching for the past 45 days, I think my husband and I have finally gotten everything in order and have narrowed down our surgeon choices. We are Self Pay, so for the two of us, cost was a big factor. However, our health is even more important (which is why we're doing this), so we've given a thought to this. Anyway, I could go on and on, but I'll try and get right to the point. We would like any advice/suggestions/opinions that anyone could give us on whether to select Dr. Ortiz or Dr. Aceves. We originally had Dr. Rumba in running, but then I read some recent posts and got scared off. Your help would be GREATLY appreciated! We'd like to get our surgery done next month.....it will be our 20th anniversary gift to each other! Yeah! We have learned so much from reading the posts on this website and thank everyone for taking time to keep this website going.:tt2:

    Best Financing Options

Hi, After reading for days, I think I've pretty much decided on Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. I've received what I feel is an amazing price compared to the U.S. My doctor here quoted me $15,000 cash pay and fills aren't included. Anyway, my question is this......Can anyone tell me the best company to use for financing this procedure? I've been give a bunch of brochures about different companies, but would love some first hand information. Thanks in advance for your help!
  19. Hi, I am just in the process of trying to finalize some financing and have only read positive things on the forum and have been amazed at the wealth of knowledge available here. Can you give me links to the negative feedback, as I'd like to read it before finalizing my decision? Thanks!
  20. Hi! I'm relatively new to the site and was just wondering if there is anyone out there that will be attending the August 5th informational meeting in Chattanooga with Dr. Ponce. I'd love to get to know someone locally that is considering this option. Thanks!

Thanks so much for that information. My BMI is 40, but it's been so long since I've been to a regular doctor that I don't know if I have any other problems or not. I'm glad you are happy with the band. I'm really excited about doing this, but my insurance has a $5000 deductible, so I'm trying to work around that. Thanks again!
  22. Hi! This is my first post and I'm thrilled to have found this site. I have just recently (in the past couple months) decided that maybe the Lap Band is the way for me to get control again. I have tried diet after diet over the years and nothing has worked with any long term success. I am approximately 90 pounds overweight and a BMI of 38, so I feel like I would be a candidate. I live in the Chattanooga area and wondered if there was anyone else that had the Lap Band experience in this area. Also, I have Blue Cross of TN and wanted to know if anyone knows if they are covering this procedure. Any information is greatly appreciated, as I REALLY want to make a lifestyle change. Thanks!
