depressed and inspired watching the Biggest Loser Finale
if you had a trainer on you A$$ for 8 hours a day and healthy food at your fingertips for 3 months straight...YES you could do it too. Do you honestly think that these contestants maintain this weight loss when they get home? You don't see much of them later, so I bet they are just like the rest of the 90% of the world that gains weight back after losing it. Why get an unfil? This is a tool to help you and it will! Don't be depressed, be encouraged!

Pounds lost 1st year
I'm really hoping for 100 pounds this first year. I am at 54 pounds now and am going into my 4th month. So, if I can keep doing 10 pounds a month I will meet that goal.

4 month slump- need encouragement and a kick in the rump
Add me to the list! I'm having a hard time right now too! I have an appointment on Tuesday and I am thinking this is going to be my FIRST fill. I have had so little self control lately. I just want to eat...even when I'm not hungry...GRR I was really hoping not to need a fill...

No longer MORBIDLY obese!!!
Thanks! I eat almost all of my dinners cooked at home...A Protein and a vegie usually. lunch is (uh-oh) usually fast food...taco supreme, a salad, chicken, stuff like that. Not too many snacks! If I have Breakfast it is either a parfait, yogurt, or a light frappuccino from S.B. Good luck on your journey!

Dizzy and Lightheaded
Are you on mushies yet? I went back to work on day 7 and was on mushies so I think that helped. If not, make sure you are getting enough liquid calories. You WILL make it through though.

Vacation-Disneyworld
I agree, you will pretty much be "able" to eat about anything at that point. I am just a little farther out right now and I still stay away from breads/pastas but everything else is ok. I know that chicken strips are not necessarily "good", but I would be getting them and sharing them. I can usually eat 2 and don't touch the fries much. I just started eating salad again, but, nutritionally, I think that other food is better depending on how you like your salads. Mine are full of toppings and dressing so I am better off with chicken and vegis. I remeber the food at disney being pretty diet friendly the last time I was there, so I would just try and make good choices and share when you can. ENjoy! I hope to be going again soon!

When did you start to really lose weight?
no pre op diet for me either. the first week i was so full of "stuff" from the hospital that I had gained like 5 pounds. But, at my 1 month post op appointment I was down 20 pounds. Weight has been steady about 2.5 pounds a week sence then.

Newbie question on Traveling
I went to work after 1 week. It was very tiring for me, the first day I went home half day, the next days I was taking naps mid day upstairs. I was on soft food at that point, but hardly eating so that was not difficult. I don't think that I would've been able be at a conference though. Unless, you are free to come and go as you please. Also, you will be on a weight restriction, so, is someone going to be carrying all of your bags and stuff like that?

Parent Trouble- advice anyone?
I would at least give it a shot and wait to find out from Blue Shield. That is who I have and everything has went smoothly. Just make sure you go through your PCP for EVERYTHING! There were a few things that didnt get paid for because I didnt have my PCP authorize it first, I thought it all went "under surgery". If worse comes to worse and you didnt get approved, why don't you see if your parents can help out with the $$$. Tell them what you can afford is Mexico, and if they want otherwise, you need their help. Just a thought. Wouldn't work with my family but, maybe.

OMG Insurance!
I don't think that is crazy. My billed amount was over $18,500. I think they paid $18,000.

OMG Insurance!
I was just complaining today about my $2,200 bill. Thank you GOD that I havent had any mistakes. The only odd thing is that I paid a "copay" of $400 direct to the surgeon that was never submited to the insurance company. I have not received a bill yet, but my insurancce said they denied my preop blood work...come on how is that not related to the surgery?!? I too, would not pay ANYTHING until you are fully satisfied with the outcome of your bill.

How did you all tell your family?
OMG I can't believe that. Thats crazy. Did he FLIP out?
-
When did you have to pay?
I think that if you do have something to pay at the time of surgery they send you a notice prior. I received my letter about 3 weeks prior to my pre op appointment and it was due at pre op (cash or credit card). I think if you havent heard you will not have to pay until after. IMO

When did you have to pay?
I just recently got my bill. I got one from the hospital which was for $1500. I also got one from my nutrition appointment that was $150. I am getting another (I think) for $400 for lab work (I don't know why it didnt get covered, so I'm hoping I don't actually get it) and I had already paid $400 direct to the surgeon and $150 to the psychologist. Out and out I am at $2500 ($2100 if they pay the lab like they should). Last year the copay was going to be $3000 so I am still ahead since it was in January. I had put $2,000 into my account for the surgery, so I feel good about it. I do want to find out why I paid the surgeon $400.00 when they said it was my "co-pay" but it never went through the insurance. Unless it is going to cover all of my follow-up, because if I ever change insurance (or lose it all together) that would be good.

How did you all tell your family?
The first person I told was my hubby. When we had went through all of the thought process together, I then told my mom. I just out and said I was starting the process to get lap-band surgery. I had mentioned it in the past before, but more a just casual "i wish I could do that". As far as family goes that was it really. I waited until after the surgery to tell my dad. I didnt know how he would respond and I didnt want any negativity going into the surgery. From there my dad told his mom who (like grandmas do) told the rest of the family, and my mom told her family (with permission first). Everyone was very supportive. I have a pretty skinny family so I was nervous. But no negativity at all!

LeAvE Me AlOnE!!!!!
I think that is the one that pissed me off the most when I heard it. I was like are you kidding me?!? I have been this fat our whole friendship and you are just worried about me getting smaller than you. I've dealt with it for years now...GET OVER YOURSELF! Geeze. Friends and their "supportive" ways.

Most Painfull Period EVER! TMI probably...
Ok, I am now 3 months postop and my cycle was very weird right after being banded. There were about three weeks where I was constantly spotting and then three weeks with nothing. NOW I am having a VERY heavy period and I am hurting ALOT. I had to leave work early yesterday because I could barely stand and I called in today and just stayed in bed. I have a heating pad on and it is barely helping. Is this common after being banded? Will they all be like this? Or just this time? I am probably going to stay home tomorrow too. Especially if it is as heavy as it was today. Sorry, I now this is probably TMI, but thanks for reading.

gOaL ChAnGe
Were you 227 when you first got banded and then gained weight? Just curious what you are "getting back to"

LeAvE Me AlOnE!!!!!
I am not even close to the point that people would think I have gone too far, but people are always commenting on what or how much I am eating. Like, you never said anything when I was eating an ice cream a day or desert with every meal...But, now that I eat vegis and don't snack everyone is in a fit to get me "healthy". Give ME A BREAK! This is the healthiest I have ever been!

Bounce Back?
I'm hoping the same thing I don't want to have P.S. No babies here yet. I am a higher starting weight than you though. I have noticed my arms have quite a bit of flab already. I hope that goes away...

So Frustrated!!!!
You are only 1 month post op. I would think that you are eating TOO much right now. What was your post op diet to consist of? When I was at the same time you are at now, I was only eating a half cup at a time, 3 times a day. If you would like to talk further feel free to ask me questions if you would like. But, my personal opinion would not to worry about calorie intake right now (some may disagree), but your body has so much stored fat right now that you will be ok for a couple of months...
